I traded my 2022 Golf R for a 2024 Golf R. Same color and both 6 speed manual. So glad I did. Overall I feel a better build quality and some pretty special having the last of manuals of the North American VW Golfs
I traded my 2022 Golf GTI 6-spd for a 2024 R 6-spd (in lapis blue). I had to drive nearly 400 miles to get it without the local dealers' "market adjustment" of $5K. It was worth the drive for what I consider an ultimate driver's car, even without that darned hvac knob. Congratulations and best of luck with yours!
The first thing you notice is how much heavier the R is. The ride is very planted and is like riding on rails. Acceleration is amazing, even in 6th gear. Twists and turns don't trouble the car at all. It's also excellent in snow. The GTI is lighter and much easier to toss around, but also an excellent car. Luckily, the winter tires I bought for the GTI also fit the R. @@jetonzeqiri9553
Why do most reviewers of the new Golf's infotainment system keep moaning about lack "tactile" knobs and buttons while, again, most rave about the interior of a Tesler? Not a knob or dial anywhere, just that awful ipad thing in the middle of the dashboard.
All these reviews are not real world. I went from a mk7 gti to a mk8 gti and there is nothing wrong with it. I know where the controls are and have never hit something on the steering wheel I never intended to.
I was looking at 24 GTI and "R" today, I thought the interface was nicely done. The graphics were hi end, and the center screen and sliders were well thought out with a resting place for your hand. I was looking at Audi S5s not too long ago, and while the car was great driving, the head unit was horribly outdated and extremely slow. I own a 24 BMW 440. By comparison Golf "R" and Autobahn's graphics and human interface and implementation were vastly superior to BMW's and a lot more intuitive.
I had an mk6 GTI but it got smushed by a big SUV who wasn’t paying attention. But I just got an R, which is the best version of the Golf. Its effortless power is terrific, and I’ve had a BMW M3 as a track car for years. I took the R to APR HQ the day after I bought it (fortunately just down the road) and got a tune and an air intake. Sweet. I really have to pay attention to make sure I’m not going 100 mph. I don’t know who the idiots are who want to use the volume buttons on the dash instead of the convenient ones on the steering wheel. 🙄 They’re not lit so your passenger won’t fuck with your song choices. It’s my ride; I’ll let you know if you can pick a song. The sunroof controls are a bit odd, but they work just fine. Also, I’m old school and I bought the 6-speed manual. My kids would have chosen the DSG, which is fine. Less artistic and creative, but perhaps more practical in this day and age.
I bought a ‘23 black mk8 R 6mt. I don’t have any issues with the infotainment really. The “no buttons” isn’t the issue with it, haptic feedback works well. My biggest issues with the car are that the digital cockpit views don’t save so they switch to back to default for each driving mode. That and chilling around 3k rpm when cruising going 70 mph in sixth gear. What pleasantly surprised me was there engine. It had the purest purr I’ve ever heard out of a 4 cylinder. It pops wildly when down shifting too and sounds AMAZING. I’m loving the car and if you can get one msrp it’s not going to depreciate like any other German sport car.
Bought a 2023 R Anniversary edition. Criticisms of the infotainment are likely made by folks that can't operate an IPhone. This guy probably never drove an R. and is including comments made by other reviewers. I drove the Civic and Corolla. Meh. Why woukd I sacrifice amenities, comfort and apeed for track performance. If I wanted a track car I'd buy one
His points are valid. Using touch isn’t so bad at a stand still but when you are driving it’s infuriating just like trying to use your iPhone will driving.
I bought a month ago de Golf 8 R. I think the car is more for Europe and especially the German Autobahn. The performance, steering, handling and the brakes are awesome, and the dsg is really quick. The infotainment is soso but the driving, Harman Kardon sound system and leather sportseats makes it all good.
I watched an interesting RUclips video recently. Someone took a 2024 Golf R for a test drive on the Deutch Autobahn. He hit 290km/h, the Golf was smooth and stable. The tach hovered around 6000rpms the entire drive.
I'm getting the 2021 GTI 2.0T Autobahn with low mileage, because it still has an Automatic Shifter and a hand break stick, and the Fender Premium stereo is very good . New GTI and R Golfs - more electronics Does Not make a better car !
Make sure to check the VIN number. Some Gti made before 2021 were assembled in Mexico. If it starts with a 3 it’s made in Mexico. If it starts W means assembled in Germany
Where did you get your comparison prices from? I looked into the Civic Type R b4 purchasing a 2023 R 20th. Of the 35 Honda dealers I called , the lowest price had a 10K mark up. If you think the ride on the R is not comfortable, suggest you try the Type R and then report back.
I have always owned vw products and they are the best cars out there . The maintenance 👨🔧 not so much . If you have it under warranty you are good to go 😊
This is an ultimate dailiy driver car, I put 10K miles on the 2023 GolfR 20th edition with 6 speed Manual, I traded it in for the 2024 GolfR with the DSG. Pricey but the overall performance is worth it.
I got a 2021 GLI Autobahn that I got as kinda a settle since golf R's were so hard to find at the time. Seeing if I should really go for these last manual version. The price is steep, at this price point I can buy a luxury vehicle not sure if the performance warrants the price tag. This is coming from a life long VW lover and owner.
The Golf R is a luxury car with a VW badge. As someone who has owned A4, S4, and TTrs (all manual) this golf R drives like an Audi S3 plus. It is an S3 with a VW cabin on top of the chassis. The R has more power + the sport differential vs. the S3.
2024 GolfR = New & Improved - admittedly buttonless instruments need getting accustomed to - driving experience is spot on perfect, and way ahead of 2015 model i traded (19" wheels and lively engine help) - "mature" look and design amongst its peers tends to keep it understated but while in the cockpit you feel the dominance of its composure - probably the best hot hatch out there....but i'm biased - after 9years (66,000+miles) of a Lapis Blue DSG, its Pure White DSG for me this time - Loving every mile - Fahrvegnugen !!

I was going to say the same thing. I'm sick and tired of these 'reviews' being done by AI. There's a cadence to the way the speech is created and the ever so slightly BS way words are pronounced. The 'facelift' is a nice step back, fixing a lot of what they did wrong on the Mk8; the headlight design, the steering wheel controls you can't use while wearing gloves, the unlit HVAC bar. Sad there isn't a market for the 6M and the material quality keeps getting poorer and poorer. I've had a Mk4, 5 and now a 7. There is a definite progress away from the full interior quality and only high-touch areas get any good tactile sense. I'm looking to replace my Mk7 GTI and it's going to be a late--year 7.5, so I can enjoy one last full design where they the interior still looked somewhat OK, vs the 13" iPad slapped against the top of the dash, like Audi's, Toyota's and most other cars. Heck, RAM even has a nicer interior and they integrated a full-on TV sized screen in there.
Yes - this video makes no sense, at all. At least in Europe, the CEO of Volkswagen confirmed the Golf 8.5 (facelift) expected in late 2024 would fix these issues. I do not know where this video obtain its facts, but there is literally no information here about the actual new Golf 8.5.
