*Thanks for this guide Karin, I'm a new overseas viewer to this channel, this is a great simple way of explaining these things, thanks!* *(It also seems Kizuna AI is returning to the Vtuber scene again this February 2025!)*
I have the moral obligation to remind people that, there are male VTubers as well. The male VTuber I'm going to feature will be the absolute legend GreatMoonAroma from South Korea. Who just like Filian and several others, started as a VRchatter. His road to stardom started when he got featured by fellow VRchatter Drumsy. He would eventually embark into VTuber territory and would waste no time as he managed to collab with big names like IronMouse, the aforementioned Filian and even Holomem like Ollie Kureiji. And who would also start a VTuber Agency of his own named Blue Jump.
I would say that although she coined the term VTubers, Kizuna AI wasn’t the first one, though it depends on what you mean by VTubers. She wasn’t the first to use the technology that is now associated with VTubing, though who you would call the first realIy depends on what your definition of a VTuber is. Various people have used a concept identical to or similar to VTubing over the years. I would say that the VTubing can trace its origins to the “fictional band” concept, the idea of people portraying fictional characters that release IRL albums and/or put on real concerts. The Gorillaz are an excellent example of this. Hatsune Miku is similar, though being a vocaloid she is a little different from fictional bands like the Gorillaz, though still a variation on the concept. The whole fictional band concept can be traced back well over half a century. You had bands like the Archies, and the earliest one that I would say was successful with this concept was Alvin and the Chipmunks back in the 1950s. Now, these earliest examples couldn’t really be called VTubers. They existed before modern streamers were even a thing. They can, however, be seen as a sort of ancestor to the concept of VTubing, an idea which eventually would be taken a couple steps forward with the concept of VTubing. One candidate that might be seen as the first VTuber is Ami Yamato, who started streaming in 2011 before the term VTuber even existed. It was indeed Kizuna AI, however, that came up with the term “VTuber”, and it was her popularity that ended up leading to what was once a gimmick used by a few streamers becoming a profitable industry.

初めてvtuberを名乗ったのはキズナアイだが、本当の初はエイレーンだと思ってます。
