Seeing that oil soaked engine brought back some memories. Way back when I worked for our city government as a tech at Central Garage, we had a dedicated room with a huge gas fired steam pressure cleaner. We kept full rain suits in the room or you'd be absolutely soaked. Pull a vehicle in, fire up the cleaner and in a few minutes - no more oil. No more paint either if you weren't careful.
😳 that must have been awesome to use! Thanks for your comment & watching the channel. Keep wrenching 🔧
"Well, that's not good", what an understatement.
Anytime Kenny says that, you know it's bad.
A few years ago I was watching a medical emergency show and there was a mechanic who had been observing the serpentine belt that was making noise when the belt broke and and was ejected from engine, hit the mechanic in the neck and almost completely beheaded him. He lived a couple days before he died. After seeing that I always stand clear of the belts path when looking under the hood!
Road trip with the money light on.
Now that's a shame. It will happen again. Oil and belts do not mix for sure. The cars that have timing belts, when the front seal leaks, it eats the timing belt. On those type cars I always would change the front seal when I would change the timing belt, water pump too, if it was in there. When you have a job that is involved like that , you do everything you can while you are in there. This car being the serpentine belt, it would be mandatory to at least try to stop some of that leaking. It will more than likely ruin the alternator too. I know, you are at the mercy of the customer. Taking it on a road trip at that. Just crazy, thanks for sharing.
Exactly right. Without fixing that major oil leak, it will indeed happen again, and probably fairly quickly. Obviously not Kenny's fault as the customer said no, just replace the belt. That's a shame.
Some manufacturers have the timing belt running thru the oil now and yes, you guessed it, those engines are a disaster.
@@richardlapoint1845 I didn't know that. I would hope the belt they use is designed for it.
@jthonn yeah they call it a "wet" belt
Thanks Kenny and sending continued prayers for you and the family!!
The Count and Rocco Malachi. I remember that Happy Days episode. Pinky Tuscadero was in that episode, too.
Remember her sister Leather(Susie Quatro)!
4 seconds in.... My only thought was "Whoh.", followed by me being hypnotized by the motion of the belt. Lol. Thanks for the content!
Kenny could you do a video on the best or most reliable vehicles to buy in your opinion? Trucks cars SUVs
Yes, i buy brake clean by the case. Works great on cleaning hydraulic fittings as well. Luv your work. Keep it up 😅
I wonder........did they get to Mississippi?🤔😏🇸🇪
VW sold 6 million Tiguans, that is a lot. Its just the US market is quite small compared to Europe and China.
Absolutely correct. Serpentine belts should only be lubricated with a full synthetic silicon grease. Oiling serpentine belts will void your warranty.
You don't lube the belts at all. The idler pulley and tensioner, maybe, but not usually.
Hello Mr Kenny hope you're weekend is going well. Have a good one
the melonchy crunch!!
Ha man thanks for that you cleaned chang belt and on his way you are a good man and mechanic and a fair man👍😂
Sometime when it’s convenient I’d like to hear your opinion on brake pads especially ceramic. I enjoy your videos !
Best that vehicle rolls on down the road and don't come back.
Just replaced the radiator on my Silverado last weekend. Now the top oil cooler line is leaking at the silly clip fitting. Guess I'll replace the lines next weekend, and get a $12 belt for $45 as well. Better safe than sorry.
Lucky that belt didn’t jam the crank pulley and total the motor! Had that happen on a Volvo
It looks like an early prototype of the Ford wet timing belt!
If the garage refuses to work on it doing a half baked job they will get the point. “Take your disaster somewhere else”
A friend ran a motorcycle and small engine shop back in the day. He regularly turned away work for that very reason. When asked why, he would say this half ass repair will fail in no time, and the customer would blame me.
Happy Father’s Day.
I heard of shredded wheat. 🌾 I never heard of shredded fan belt.
Yes lots of places to leak, and customer should be glad the belt did not dive between pulley and cover, and cut the oil seal to pieces, because then they would be fixing them all, or risk running out of oil after 30 miles.
13 days ago you put out a video with the most worn belt you had ever seen. I can assume this one is beyond most worn. Good thing it's not a zero clearance engine.
What do you mean? Clearance rarely means anything concerning an accessory drive belt other than it maybe hitting something or ripping a wire loose when it breaks.
Your thinking of timing belt, this is a fun belt.
Sounds like customer views their vehicle as disposable. How can not smell the oil and burnt up serpentine belt. Wonder how many times the hood has been up on that VW by the customer?
I never hear good things about the tiguan
Which one? They completely redesigned it around 2017.
Because they’re shitboxes.
@@billmalecWhy would a German auto maker, in business 70 plus years, need to redesign ANYTHING?
There's your clue.
Happy Father's Day
lol this thing has a known oil leak it’s here here here and here… pretty much anyplace that has oil in it leaks 😂
😂😂😂 exactly!
Hey brother Kenny, I hope that when you became a mechanic back in the day that you realized rather quickly how much brake clean you might potentially use in the next 40 years and invested your money into the major manufacturers of brake clean. I am aware it is necessary for a job like this but is there any alternative? Do you ever suspect how using this product might affect your health after using it for 35 or 40 years? I love this channel and you brother Kenny. Best automotive repair for the average person on RUclips. BTW, I hate VW Tiguan. VW is weird!
Brother GlennBob! I wish I had invested in breakclean back in the day. I do think about how potentially bad inhaling the fumes could be. VWs are definitely weird. If they are maintained they will run for 100s of miles. I hope you have a wonderful Father's Day. Love - Kenny
Kenny, is this the same shop as you were in a year ago? Was just watching videos from a year ago, and the walls are different.
@@AAB371 I wasn't aware he changed shops. Thanks.
Oil and timing belts don't mix either!! -Me, after my 1MZ-Fe snapped her timing belt on the side of the freeway
Kenny, does your shop charge a 'standard' shop fee, like 5% of the bill for example? In this case, I would add a 0 after the 5, charge a 50% shop charge and hope that this VW customer never returns. Some customers are not worth having as they expect too much!! All those orange cleaning rags and all that brake clean and cleanup of hands and arms to remove the oil from you add up fairly quickly.
The black, plastic, sealed, Positive Crankcase Ventilation module is blocked upand must be replaced; they cannot be cleaned.
Install a new Belt Tensioner ( they're a pain!)
Keep your head up Kenny cant repair them all.
Foamy engine bite works great. Jut spray it on, hose it off.
Now youve got all that clean😂😅😂😅
Do you ever use dye and a uv light to find a leak?
It's extremely rare. I prefer, breakclean, a rag & observation. Thanks for watching the channel & keep wrenching 🔧
Youre supposed to keep the belts dry 😊
Did Germany make anything good?
Old Porsches were pretty good. Nothing else is worth keeping. I have a Jetta and don’t plan on keeping it.
It wont be long before that car is back in the shop...voluntarily, or otherwise.
Come on fellows, Kenny did not say they were going on vacation, he said ( Mississippi if memory serves me ) you do not know why. They might be out of time to get to an important place or take care of a family matter. Just assuming that they don’t care about the repair or car condition is foolish. I just might be all they have because it might be all they can afford. It just might be that he or she is going for a job, funeral. We as a nation have to stop judging others. Everyone is different and live under different circumstances.
Kenny is a very good mechanic and as a professional he has a hard time within himself of just not being able to properly repair a problem when he sees it. ( I been in thoes same situations as an electrician ) but, he still has to respect the customers decision. Now I am done ranting . Keep Kenny and his family in our prayers. 👍😎🇺🇸🙏🏽
Thank you for your comment. You & Meg have the same sentiments about this 'repair'. If that repair had been done correctly they would have ended up arriving at least a day later to their destination. Thank you for your kind words & watching the channel. Keep wrenching 🔧
@@WrenchingWithKenny 👍
its not a happy day for this vw it just needs the fonz kenny touch
Why degrease with brake cleaner? I would be using engine degreaser.
Brake clean dries quickly. Engine degreaser would require a rinse.
I am not a professional mechanic BUT if I was I am not too sure I would have worked on that car. The entire car was a pigsty. Some folks just don’t deserve to have a car that runs. Inside was filthy. Headliner was falling down like a cheap tent with half the poles missing. The engine was covered with oil. The engine light was on. They will probably make it about 3 miles down the road and when it quits running they will want you to fix everything for free because YOU did something to it.
I am a professional technician..and I totally agree with everything you stated...we're hoping it makes it to Mississippi
Well it IS a VW........
I agree, but Meg put a different spin on the repair. She was happy that I completed the repair as someone else may have half-assed it. The customer may have been going to a funeral or the bedside of a sick loved one. I told the owner what NEEDED to be done. Hopefully, they make it to their destination. Thanks for commenting and watching the channel. Keep wrenching 🔧
Oh man, don't tell Ford. They love bathing belts in oil. 😑😑
I dislike uncooperative customers , especially VW Tiguan customers. I would tell them if they don't accept the shops recommendation to just come and pick their shit up ( okay, car) because you can't make wishes come true.
Happy Father's Day brother Bob! Kenny always says he can put lipstick on a pig but it will still be a pig. That's how I feel about customers like this one. They can just go on to the next shop. Love you - Meg
Customers short sidedness is extremely frustrating. I see it all the time. Ugh
Oil and (timing-) belts don't mix..... your tip should have reached the developers of the 3cylinder 1.2 Pure-Tech engines in thousands of Peugeot, Citroen and Opel cars. Distribution belt runs within the oil pan/system causing lots of trouble even within 50.000 kilometers (30,000 mls)
Looks like everything that could leak is above the serp belt. Bad design.
Yet the goobers at ford think an oil submerged timing belt was a good idea in their. 3 cylinder.
Exactly. I'd love to meet the idiot who thought that was a good idea
Dude must be in a hurry
Tiguan? Never buy a car that you can’t pronounce its name.
Why bother Kenny, fix it right, or walk away. Do people in North America buy another overpriced, over engineered garbage VW again?
Buy American
