Another thing to consider is when the slag mechanic becomes an accessibility issue. I’m locked out of UVHM+ due to my disabilities running completely against the requirements for it. And we all know that’s where some of the best gear is. Being asked to swap to slag, aim, swap to best and hold aim for crit in 2 seconds or less is beyond me. One of the reasons I’m a Salvador main is due to that.
Why not try slag grenades there are plenty of good slag grenades you can use. Plus Maya and Axton can slag without needing weapons for it. Zer0 might need slag a little but definitely not for UVHM he can do enough damage with CA and death mark to not need it. OP levels is where Zer0 might need to rely on it a bit.
@@naytny5819 one of the biggest issues is my reaction time is not the best, especially when I’m experiencing increased pain. Future games should definitely stray away from the slag mechanic of bl2. Using one or more guns in your slots just to turn a guy purple isn't a good thing, then adding uvhm's 3x damage mod on top of it makes uvhm more difficult than it needs to be.
I think slag could have been great to use but they only give you the grog and Slagga as good slagging options. Also look at th I card near the end of the vid 😉
@@OhCrapI_He there are less gernades for you to use compared to bullets, plus majority of slag gernades are very inconsistent of actually slagging the target. Other grenades have a lot more utility compared to those slag ones
You literally don't need to dedicate a slag weapon if you don't want to on most of the vault hunters though the can deal enough damage on there own or self slag enemies on there own.
Ive always been a fan of the concept of slag, and I want to impliment it (or a concept like it) into games that im working on. As a slag supporter, this video helpfully points out the problems with it, and provides some very nice solutions I think I may have to steal!
Honestly the only things I'd do to slag is : 1. As you said let slag weapon do damage, maybe not the full X3 but a 2.5x would be fine 2. Let raid boss be slagged for a normal amount of time, not just 1 sec 3. While slagged make it so the named boss have a 30% chance to drop legendary instead of 10% but only in op levels
I have to disagree with the last one but the other two are good. With how slag is used in OP levels you might as well make the boss have a 30% drop chance
If they made it so Krieg slags when he throws an axe everything would have been good. But they basicly said: 'nope, you don't get to use your skill in solo on OP levels'.
I know I'm in the vast minority, but I like slag as a mechanic! I don't agree with all of your early points necessarily, but what I do agree with is pretty much all of your solutions. At the end of the day, Borderlands is part RPG, and a popular mechanic in RPGs is buffs and debuffs. And I think slag is a pretty good attempt at creating weapons that are focused around utility in some cases. But I agree that there should be more slag weapons that offer additional utility, and I think slag's duration and chances both need buffed in most cases. However, I don't necessarily think that slag weapons should do more damage to slagged enemies. This is actually my problem with Cryo. At a certain point, the optimal play just becomes using solely a cryo weapon to kill everything because-- well, it does everything in one weapon slot. It CC's enemies, it increases damage against them, and it can take advantage of that full damage so... why ever switch off? Sure, you can if you want, but there's really no reason to in any case where Cryo can be used against whatever you're fighting. Part of the cool part about slag is that it's a utility element, and basically enables the rest of your guns. The heavy weapon swap adds another layer of skill. In my opinion these are the solutions I can think up on the spot: 1) Every character should inherently have swap speed integrated into some of their skills. Some VHs have great swap speed, some don't. But there's really no reason every VH can't have it. I kind of feel the same way about weapon handling, and movement speed. These are all utility that make any character feel better to play, and it doesn't overtly break any of the vault hunters by giving it to them. 2) Increase the de-buff duration, and the slag chance. You brought all of these up and I agree. 3) Take slag off of weapons that are clearly made to deal damage. Slag is clearly meant to be purely used for utility, this is why they have decreased slag weapon damage vs slagged enemies (when compared to any other gun type). It's to avoid that exact issue I brought up with Cryo. So why have it roll on weapons like the striker that are clearly not utility weapons? Keep it to weapons like Grog, Orc, Slagga, etc. This helps clean up the lootpool for those items for farming. Finally, 4) Add more utility weapons / unique slag weapons. The Orc, Slagga, and Grog are all great examples. But there should be more. Maybe a weapon that increases your firerate when you slag an enemy, and another that increases your movement speed. You could have one that spreads the slag to someone else when they die (which could help for melee Krieg builds, like you mentioned). There are a bunch of ways to buff a character and debuff an enemy, and you could integrate those into slag weapons to add more variety. I will say that I also think that if slag is meant purely for utility the way they seemed to have wanted it to be, it should probably be limited to unique weapons that are meant to be utility items, or the chance of it should be lower than other elements. Again, because it clutters up the lootpool for your damage weapons needlessly.
I came from anarchist's video and I'm not afraid to say... I'm one of the sick freaks that actually likes slag. Buuuuut it's certainly not perfect. I agree with a lot of your points and actually really liked your idea of raising damage against already slagged targets, you'd still get a MAJOR bonus to damage from matching elements because that's just how the game works, but it wouldn't feel as necessary to do. It would just be less annoying against enemies that aren't SO squishy that you can't kill them, but are squishy enough that you really should be able to. I enjoyed this video and was actually surprised to see your subscriber count, I thought you would have more and I actually recognize a few of your other videos too! You are getting a sub from me
I like slag too don’t get me wrong, but there are some aspects of it that just make it less fun and actually punish the player instead. Ok. I can see that switching to a slag weapon is frustrating, but I usually use a slag bouncing betty grenade (or transfusion grenade) when I'm not playing as a character who focuses on grenade damage, just so I don’t need to switch weapons. But then again you do have a limited supply of those
