Day 3 in Leh: A Day of Monasteries, Royalty, and Bollywood Magic

On Day 3 in Leh, we embark on a journey through history, spirituality, and cinema. Our first stop is Hemis Monastery, the largest and wealthiest monastery in Ladakh, known for its stunning architecture and ancient Buddhist relics. Next, we visit Thiksey Monastery, a magnificent hilltop monastery often compared to Tibet’s Potala Palace, where we admire the breathtaking views and the iconic 49-foot-tall Maitreya Buddha statue.
Continuing our exploration, we head to Shey Palace, the former summer retreat of Ladakhi kings, where we marvel at the golden Buddha statue and learn about the region’s royal heritage. Finally, we visit Rancho’s School, famously featured in the Bollywood film 3 Idiots. Here, we relive cinematic memories and see how the school promotes innovative education.
This day offers a perfect blend of spirituality, history, and Bollywood nostalgia, making it a highlight of our Leh experience.
