I was very lucky to grow up playing drums in Austin and got a chance to watch some incredible musicians up close and personal. Every week was a free masterclass in drumming. From metal/grunge shows with Mumbleskinny(think Tool ish) at the Back Room, to playing for Billy White Trio at Steamboat, which was my weekly drum lesson, to Hot Buttered Rhythm with Brandon Temple, to all the numerous amazing people he has worked with since, JJ is the absolute best in the business.
I am LOVING the simplicity of this kit. Not too flashy and sounds killer. Not only did Gretsch nail this Broadcast series but your touch is perfect for this gig, JJ!!

Zack - I met and worked with Johnny. I could never stand his playing LOL. To each his own tho, thats the great thing about art :) Im partial to JJ from his work with John Mayer and Tedeschi Trucks.
To each their own, but I’ve seen so many videos where Johnny’s pocket is straight up awful. He was good at the gig I attended, but seemed super inconsistent.
Radelat was playing everything JJ originally laid down on the record. JJ is the fit.
Johnny was good but I could never hear him that well live(esp his cymbals)….that’s never an issue with J.J……as a drummer I feel that GCJ made the right decision.
