  • I move on and cruise to another favoured location on the Leicester Line Summit but it's very windy and headway is slow. It's not all bad, as the sun is shining, but where do I moor up?

    Evening Alan, that certainly was a choppy cruise! I always chuckle that people who have never handled a narrowboat must look at the canal and wonder what the fuss is all about! You can't appreciate how difficult it is in those conditions until you've had to do it! Loved watching this, really enjoying your cruise. Thanks for sharing...🍷🍷

      Morning Steve, I have had worse but it really wasn’t very enjoyable and I needed to move on before the rain due the next day. I’m glad you enjoyed watching, thanks for your comment 🥂

      Fortunately, it was just a short hop, the best bit was seeing, that the low tree trunk had been cut down xx

    Yippee.Hi again Alan , just watched your latest vlog and was amazed to see the horizontal tree branch near bridge 25 has been removed. I know you had reported it a long time ago . We last passed it in November last year and was sure it was even lower so reported it again to be told it was planned??? . Anyway glad to see its gone . Happy cruising, regards Nona and Chris 😊😊

      Hi both, great to hear from you. It was two or three years ago when I first reported my concerns but nothing was done then. I was delighted to see it had gone, I used to cringe going under it and the thought of meeting a boat there was very troubling. It definitely had been getting lower as my comparison picture showed. All the best and likewise, enjoy your cruising. Take care 🤠

      My pleasure Ginger. Reggie is fine, however he travels, on the boat, in the camper van, it's not an issue, he just sleeps much of the time. All the best, take care.

    Hi Alan, lovely cruise. I had a weekend hire recently and it was rather windy at times. It makes for some nervous moments when passing other boats 😂. Glad you managed ok,but then you’re a seasoned veteran. Have a great weekend mate 👍

      Hi Paul, it's great to hear you've been out narrowboating. Wind can be a real nuisance at times, as you'll see in a future episode. I don't cruise as much as I'd like to, but I took to it really well when I started, You too have a good weekend. Cheers

    Well Alan what a windy cruise. I have a tree on my nature strip that needed to be trimmed because I am on a corner and my gardener ended up chopping back because the council never get on to it.

    • @MyNarrowboatVenture
      @MyNarrowboatVenture  3 месяца назад +1

      It really was windy, I was pleased when I stopped cruising. If the tree is on your land, doesn’t that make it your responsibility?

    • @HellyAvard-xt6mz
      @HellyAvard-xt6mz 3 месяца назад

      @@MyNarrowboatVenture the council owns the nature strip and plants & maintains the tree but the home owner is expected to mow the grass.

    What a hassle not being able to lower the canopy and how odd you may have forgotten how, especially when you've done it so many times. It didn't ruin the viewing, however. Bye for now. Stephen

    • @MyNarrowboatVenture
      @MyNarrowboatVenture  3 месяца назад +1

      Hi Stephen, I think because the weather is cold, the canopy fabric is less pliable than in the summer, so it's harder to manipulate. Plus there's a lot of bird poopings on the top, which I didn't wish to get involved with, so left it alone at the time. Did you get your new scooter? Have a great weekend. All the best.

    We've had days like these when we've hired a boat. Having a hired boat means sometimes you need to cruise that day to be able to return the boat to base on time. Its no fun, especially when you come through a bridge hole and another boat is moored close the other side where the wind want to take the bow towards the other boat as you emerge through the bridge hole. No boats were clunked thankfully !

    • @MyNarrowboatVenture
      @MyNarrowboatVenture  3 месяца назад +1

      I know exactly what you mean. It is difficult when you hire a boat to know how far you can go and how to best use your time, to ensure you get back when due. That can put undue pressure on the hirer, which can inevitably mean cruising in less than desirable conditions.
