This was so enjoyable to watch ..He is a very lucky man to have you in his life, and you guys get to have this life living on your boat, How cool is that .!
The general conensus is that you have made a marvelous job of your engine bay indeed, you most certainly have. Working in such a confined space with some rather nasty fumes given off by the rust protector paints.. The net end result is one you can be well proud of.
YOU TWO ARE FUNNY AS YOU FINISH EACH OTHERS SENTENCES AND THINK ALIKE, WAIT THE THE OTHER ONE TO FINISH A THOUGHT. VERY LOVING COMPLIMENTING OF EACH OTHER... GOOD SOLID REPAIR TO HAVE INSURANCE FOR THE WINTER.
Well, engine out of alignment issues results in all manner of broken bits and pieces. You are fortunate it wasn't more serious and to have had competent machanics working on your narrowboat. Very nice work cleaning up engine room.
As I watched this episode, I was quickly reminded of the last Vlog and how some people were wondering if you were capable of piloting the narrowboat and working the locks. You seemed to do very well bring the boat to a stop at the engine repair shop. Again I saw you working the locks and then of course the great job mucking out the engine bay and repainting it. It was done very professionally. I do think you more than know what you are doing. Ryan is lucky to have you as an equal partner. You two make a great team. Happy motoring and as always, stay safe
Thank you! We’re a good team, we do enjoy being together and doing stuff together. I (Maggie) really don’t mind getting into the engine bay and doing stuff as I like to know how things work and I’m a bit of a perfectionist and like to do jobs myself so that I know they’re done to my liking! 😅
Maggie showing some fine helmsmanship pulling up to that mooring! Wonderful seeing you three again. Ryan, you mind those fumes and your asthma. Cheers, Chefs!
New rule suggestion: Never heckle the person who fits most easily into the engine bay (and does not have asthma) -- at least not while she is in there.
My wife and I love watching the English narrow boats. 1st thing, well done on the engine bay, and paint job. The repair yard sounds like a great place. 2nd thing, take some advice from an older and wiser man, please stop over talking your wife. Let her finish, then you can add when she is done. Just be respectful, of each other. It goes a long way. I will add this, the sarcastic remarks will get old after awhile too. Any way, be safe and hold each other as the most important person in your life. We wish you all the best.
You can always spot a couple that's been together for some time.... they finish each other's sentences. Nice job. Enjoying your video from the Philippines 🇵🇭.
Thanks for sharing, Ryan and I must have the same spirit animal, watching you work is a pleasure. Sounds like that boat yard knows thier stuff, alignment is important, the excess vibration from the missalignment will be what broke all those bolts and kept them breaking.
Congrats to all concerned, Maggie great paint job I know if I was in that engine bay I would just slap the paint on because no one will ever see it ..lol...also to the guys in the boat yard, excellent work in lining up the the prop shaft, this is why ,Maggie, you do not feel vibration anymore when the engine is running, and at a very fair price.
I was impressed with all that hard work and paint job. It looks great, tidy, smooth and perfect for your improved engine. I really enjoy your videos. Thank you.
Well done, you. Good job of selecting repair facility. Excellent follow through in getting your bilge cleaned and painted. Glad to see you willing to take the time to make it right. Congratulations.
you are very funny, you Englishmen with these little houses on the water ... we take out the engine and repaint just enough, no more on the sides ..; it was time to make everything clean again .. . !! decidedly we don't have the same ways of thinking at all ... !! just the right amount ... no more! and the bridge is all dirty, it too would have deserved painting ... !! and the paint pot ... you have to stir it ... !! there are so many tutis when you don't know! really you are special you English ... !!
You have a lovely positive outlook and really got stuck in with that clean up of the engine bay and subsequent painting job,the company that did that work did a fine job and the bill was very reasonable considering the skills and time required, thank you for a super video.
We have used the team at Canal Cruising Co. at Stone a few times to do maintenance to our boat, nice people, great service and they know what they are doing. Happy for you to come and paint our bilge anytime, looked like a great job!
I am so glad it is fixed. I honestly thought it was going to be more also. I do believe you got got a great deal. You did a great a job painting. Poor pixel on the wasp sting. Be safe out there on the canals. 💕💕
It struck me early in the video that someone had fudged a repair in mounting the alternator 2 out of 5 bolts etc. Curious as to why there was wood and MDF in the bay and am wondering if it was to deaden the vibration caused by the mis alignment of the prop shaft.Having the engine out was the only solution to getting the job properly. Witness the smoothness afterwards. Looking at what they did, and needed to do, that was a very fair invoice and like others loved the handwritten bill. As for the cleaning and repainting seriously impressed Maggie & Ryan. Are there no end your talents?
Haha, thanks, we do have many talents! Most learned because we needed to! 🤣 The engine does seem to run smoother now with the realignment, less vibration in the boat.
I would have to agree they treated you well and did necessary repairs. I know it’s expensive but when you get repairs done by well skilled people it’s worth every bit in the long run, saving trouble and expense down the road. They know their jobs and they know what these beauties need to keep them reliable. I too believe as far as I can tell with all the repairs they did, even though costly, it was quite fair. And I don’t think is easy for honest repairmen to have to increase the bill, but after all, in the end, it’s their skill and judgement you are paying for.
Sounds like it was well worth the price in my opinion. Parts are one thing, but labor has to be added in. That is how they stay in business. But I think you all think it was worth it as well. AND, I like your little doggy too! She looks so cute...
Great job on the painting Maggie, hope Ryan made you a nice lunch while you were doing the dirty work !! I was also thinking the bill would be much higher, glad your back under full power, looking forward to the next vlog. Cheers Nigel

Brilliant job on the engine bay! Glad you were well treated at the boat yard. Those “little extras” can really add up sometimes. I hope things don’t get too awkward with the renewed restrictions. Stay safe you three. Love your vids!
Excellent work! So many boxes ticked:- engine/alternator refurbished, antifreeze replenished, engine room refitted. Well done for being up front about the cost too, a very important factor if considering living in a narrowboat. So many narrowboat Utubers are reluctant to give full costs.
Hey guys, how on Earth has your boat been going all this time! You gonna find such a difference. Great job Stone boat yard! 👏👏👍🌟🌟. Hope you left the guys some cake 😆
Just wanted to say love watching your channel. We were trying to guess how much your engine work would be and thought £2,000.00 so were amazed when it was just under a grand. You got very good service and must be very pleased with everything. Hope all goes well for your end of season trip. Pat and Peter xxx
Hi Pat and Peter! Yes, we were positive it was going to be higher! Good thing it wasn’t, as £1000 is already quite a strain on the budget! 😅 Thanks for watching guys 😊
Congratulations. I think you got a very good deal plus detailed information on what was done. What a relief it was not to be the higher price. 2 hard working teams. I really enjoy your channel.
A great video, shows the real world of canal boat ownership and credit to you for sharing including the costs. Many go into it eyes closed shut to what costs can be. Hopefully trouble free cruising.
Having the engine re-aligned is a Really big thing, And you noticed the better running and reduced vibration right away. From personal experience painting rusty steel or steel exposed to the weather, I have found that wiping the steel down with Kerosene will help an oil based paint adhere better. ( It helps displace any moisture left on the surface)

You should get paid more for all that bilge work and painting. Sorting out a neglected bilge is a horrible task but you did it and very nicely. I was amazed at how clean your clothes kept, I would have been a big grease ball if I got in there. Great Vlog!
Narrowboat Chef, Dolly Blue, see if you can get some, it comes in a 1" round block and if Pixel get stung in the mouth wet the dolly blue and dab it on the tongue well where the sing was. I've not seen it for years, coz you use to buy it from small hardware shops, it was used in your laundry with your washing powder to give your whites that special whiteness! But great for stings, my dogs always use to eat wasps. All lived till old age cept for Sheba the second, who had cancer. Also watch Narrowboatwill channel.
Just saying hi I am a retired HD marine mechanic you folks sound like a very happy couple I want to learn about your way of boating to are way in Canada on Vancover Island

Minimal List's dog, George, was also stung by a wasp a couple of months ago. Don't know if they took him to the vet, but glad you did for Pixel because you never know if they have an allergic reaction. Best to you both. Stay safe and healthy, Jane, Philadelphia
Reminded me of a movie I saw about 50 years ago, A man who lived in a marina and never went anywhere had taken the motor out of his boat and put in a wine cellar. Anyway 2nd best use of nappies I have ever seen.
Hi Guys Subscribed ages ago but 1st time commenting. Love your video,s and what a good job done by you and the boatyard at Stone, not an extortionate price either for the amount of work carried out. Your invoice looked the part too, as Historical as the boatyard complex itself, about 200 years old, wonderful. I had a holiday with them 3 years ogo, could not be better looked after. Looking forward to your next video , look after each other, stay safe, Proper Job.
Hi Ron, thanks for commenting! Yes, loved the handwritten invoice! They are very friendly there, we’re going to go back next year to get our boat blacking done.
Narrow boats can become a money pit, if you are unlucky & get a bad one or one that has been botched up. The price of repairs seemed exceptionally good, what with having all the welding done & re-alignments of the shafts-engine position. Had that not been done you may very well have been looking at a lot more expense further down the line when the prop shaft bearings would have been damaged, so all in all a very good job well done.
when you put the engine back in use baby disposable nappies to put under the engine to soak up any oil which makes it easier to keep it clean......well done to the engineers...goood workers are worth the cost if everything works much better....
Thanks for your Vlog on everything we would ever want to know about engine inspections and Maintenance and how to do these Very Technical repairs. Only joking thanks for your enthusiasm and interesting insight into the repairs and how to make a good job of your engine compartment paint job looking good I must say.👌👍👀😁
Amazingly great deal on all that work! Looks like a great place to take an ailing boat, knowledgeable and competent workers making serviceable for a reasonable price. Here in Florida that work performed at Port Canaveral would be an easy $3000...
You’ll not regret having the job done right. Your gear box, propeller shaft cutlass and packing will all last longer with the proper alignment. Your boat will probably be smoother while under way. In fact because the generator is so high up the vibrations from the misalignment of the engine to propeller shaft could have caused the problem to begin with. Because any vibration gets amplified the further away from the centerline of the engine. So it was all a sound investment. Nice job painting! Cheers! Jeremy
Yes, that was also the conclusion the engineers came to. Pleased that it’s all aligned properly now and it does seem to have made a slight improvement on the way the engine runs, less vibration through the boat. 😊
It always looks nicer when the engine bay is nicely painted. Well done guy's. And as we are looking at this you should have been moored up at the mariner by now as it's the 26th Oct I am looking at it. Keep safe.😃😃😃 and Pixel.🐈

Amazingly great deal on all that work! Looks like a great place to take an ailing boat, knowledgeable and competent workers making serviceable for a reasonable price. Here in Florida that work performed at Port Canaveral would be an easy $3000...
They were great, excellent service!
that place see you coming ..
That was a Fantastic Episode guys !!!!!!!!!
Thanks, glad you enjoyed it! 😊
Cheers!
