I've gotta say, I've learned of the existence of so many cool-looking PC games that I didn't know about through your countdown vids. This has been a fun series to tune in for over the months; will be bittersweet when it's over! Haha
You know your games! I love how much passion and dedication you have. Star ocean 2 and shadow hearts ii are such incredible classics. I remember clear as day being 10 years old buying star ocean 2 at a second hand game store and staying up all night playing it!
The Secret of Monkey Island looks like a really interesting game and the art in the cutscenes look awesome. Great work on these, I've found out about a lot of great games I may have overlooked in the past or never heard of throughout your top 100 and I'm looking forward to seeing what your top 5 are.
Great Video Pam as usual. I'm alittle surprised PD isn't in your top 5. Look forward to your top 5. I will wait for 1-5 video before I ask my question. Have a great day :)
Fantastic list of very original choices. Star Ocean on the PS1 was absolutely superb. It was so good for its time, very different and unique, and with a lot to do and many forking paths. I played this one many times - still have an old ex-rental copy - its one of only a few ps1 games I kept, couldn't bear to part with it!
Thanks! I sold my original Star Ocean back to GameStop like a dummy. Always tried to get it back from there and never saw a copy in the store again. I did get it a bout 4 years back though at a retro game store.
Lol I freaked out a little when you mentioned "sort of based on history" leading to number 6. I LOVE the first two Shadow Hearts Games, just finished playing through them a couple months ago. The funny thing is I was going to ask if you'd played these a while ago because I got the feeling you might be into them (forgot tho). I like the horror atmosphere of the first better, but Covenant improves on it in so many other ways. The WWI setting really hooked me. I'd love to hear what you thought of the ending(s) if you ever decide to cover these games in a review format.
Hey Pam, its been a while since I commented on your vids, been busy with work and healthcare, but guess who's back? ME, now lets get on with the finals! Shadows of Darkness looks like fun, I have always wanted to get into the old school point and click games but they were ahead of my time. John Rhys Davies and Jennifer Hale?! Holy crap I was missing out on something great. The Star Ocean is a very overlooked rpg for the ps1, it felt like mass effect because of the binary choice of being male or female, and man is the crafting system so vast. I got overwhelmed. FMV? Whoa, Pandora Directive looks so cool, kind of a mix between Carmen San Diego, LA Noir, Snatcher and telltale games, its a shame I wasnt a PC gamer sooner :( I figured you would have Monkey Island on this list, nice pop-up to see. One of LucasArts classics. xD SHADOW HEARTS...well Coveneant at least. Yuri was the bomb! Gotta love innuendo. Good going Pam, had fun watching. I dont think I saw your final 5. Gonna have to check it out when time comes back to me. Back into the vortex I go that is life.
Well. I feel like a fool now. After my grandiose claims of being able to guess at least 5 of your top 10 in the last video, not even one of them was in this half of it. I may have guessed a Monkey Island game but I thought you'd already mentioned that series earlier in the list. You really threw me with all these FMV and JRPGs. I underestimated your retro game influences. So I doubt I will get all your top 5, hehe. As a record, I'm going to make my guesses below. I think insult swordfighting is the greatest combat system ever created. And it doesn't even need hit detection! I am really glad you did this series for us, Pam. Thank you. Oh, and I hope you do a bonus video with honourable mentions of recent games that were released after you made the list but totally would have made it in! Okay so I am going to lock in: Planescape: Torment (at #1) Mass Effect (don't know whether you've chosen one or lumped the series together) X-Com (the modern one, not the '90s ones)(and the expac and/or the sequel) The other two places I have no real idea so I'll try One of the Civ games Darkest Dungeon Vampire The Masquerade: Bloodlines
Well... you should feel less foolish next episode. I do plan to make an honorable mentions video with more recent releases that would have been included.
Cant wait for the next ones of these, and honestly. Im a massive rpg fan and ive never played star ocean. And honestly. This is the FIRST time ive ever seen gameplay of it. You so just made me want to play it really badly. The crafting aspect is really whats drawing me in, and the combat kinda reminds me of tales of destiny.
I still occasionally have nightmares where I'm trapped in Star Ocean 2 and forced to eat Claude's vegetable dishes. Those things can wipe out an entire party, a lesson I learned the hard way. Shadow Hearts is probably the most well known JRPG series released in the west that I've never played a single game from. All of the other games in this episode I've beaten at least once.
I've been meaning to get into Shadow Hearts for ages. I really enjoyed Koudelka on PSX and didn't know that the two series were related until recently. It's hard for me to get into RPGs because I don't have as much free time these days so I try to just focus on one at a time, but that really makes the backlog grow.
I also find it difficult to get into RPGs (especially JRPGs) now. It's been a long time since I found one I enjoyed enough to play through the whole thing.
Star ocean second story is a masterpiece. Glad to see it on the top 10 list. For me personally it’s top 5 anybody who hasn’t played it get it immediately.
Almost done! Ugh, almost done... But seriously, great game choices. Loved seeing Star Ocean 2 so high up and I really need to get the Shadow Hearts games.
I haven't played many point-and-click adventure games, probably due to growing up with consoles instead of a PC. But I did play through Thimbleweed Park recently, which I'd recommend if you enjoyed Monkey Island. I've heard good things about Shadow Hearts II. The PS2 definitely had some diverse JRPGs, with my favorite being Shin Megami Tensei: Nocturne.
Star Ocean Second Story was awesome for sure I enjoyed playing through it as both characters it’s probably in my top 5 games of all time along with Final Fantasy 7 and Suikoden 2. Monkey Island was also an awesome game so was it’s sequel
Rogue Galaxy, Tales of Berseria, Zestria are something that were re-relised after number 9 [Star Ocean], aren't them? Or are you talking about an idea of thrilling arpg with an accent of 2d actors on 3d environment? [like Tales of Destiny, Rebirth for ps2] That is my first time seeing number 10 [Shadow of Darkness] and 8 [Pandora Detective]. While at the same I was sure that I at least played\watched ead about everything sorta unique from a very beginning of games creation. Will fix it. Probably it is an ignorance all of fmv, pc exclusive, visual novel and ScummVm stuff And in addition - your look of 7 [The Secret of Monkey Island] and 6 [Shadow Hearts] right now is best of existing.
Awww, it's the second-to-last episode. DON'T LEAVE ME, SERIES! (Though I am looking forward to seeing what you have in store next.) I guess I pay attention to your channel, because I was like " of course, Pam" to all of them except Shadow Hearts II. I have to get around to that series! Your #1 game? Planescape: Torment. Because you rock as much as I do. Okay, almost. You almost rock as much. I got carried away there, I'm afraid. Oh and you left a hint in your entry for the more recent Torment game. (In case you haven't already realized, PS:T is also my favorite game of all time.) I'll need a box of tissues when this is over. Best top videogame list ever. Well done.
I agree, it's a shame to see the series end, but it was designed with an end in mind. And that's what has made this so great to watch! The big finale is coming!
So I bought Shadow Hearts Covenant the day it came out. And I remember thinking it was pretty much perfect, just that rare JRPG that gets everything right. Some years later I sell my PS2 collection, and many many years later I find myself remembering this game and wondering if I was crazy for thinking it was so good. Why doesn't anyone talk about it anymore? Glad to see someone else shares my opinion on it. Although I'm not sure it's quite top ten material. . . maybe it's time to give it another playthrough. I need an excuse to finally play the last Shadow Hearts game anyway. Can't wait for top 5!
Pam I was soooo pleased to see The Pandora Directive. It's probably in my top 5 with Blade Runner and some other FMVs. (Well technically Blade Runner is not an FMV but still!) Also Star Ocean (love!) I always found the bosses to be extremely annoying and the game can be quite challenging.
Ohhh you have to! One of the best games ever created. It has not much to do with the movie, really, but some people find it even better! (YES!) I wonder if they will ever release it again... I was able to make it work on XP at the time with my CD version. (Probably hmm 10 years ago?)
First of all: nice shirt, I like it. And then: interesting picks: I didn't know The Pandora Directive yet but if it's similar to The X-Files from Hyperbole Studios then it must be really good. In my opinion The Secret of Monkey Island is the best point and click adventure ever made. I remember watching my brother play it when I was Little and as soon as I could read, I played it myself. Hell, I even reenacted it with my playmobile pirate ship and island as a child. :D And Pam, by the way: "You fight like a Dairy Farmer!"
I call shenanigans, good sir! Surely you mean Grim Fandango? And while we're at the topic of undead noir, I should mention that you fight like a pox-infected undead cow. =)
Lucas Arts did some great adventures but I have the most nostalgia for The Secret of Monkey Island. I guess a pox-infected undead cow has nothing to lose which makes it the perfect endboss. =)
Hmm, I'd say Pandora Directive is sort of similar to the X-Files game, but more entertaining. I liked the X-Files game but it was a little dry. I also agree that Secret of Monkey Island is the best point and click ever made.
Awesome 3 adventure games in the top ten already :) Can't remember if Gabriel Knight made it in your list at all? Looking forward to the top 5! I really have to get to playing Pandora Directive, especially since you rate it much higher than Killing Moon.
Yes, GK2 was number 50 and GK1 was in the last episode. I've been playing Pandora Directive again since I wanted some footage for this video, it's still lots of fun.
Quest For Glory definitely slipped past my radar during that time, though I wouldn't have had a powerful enough PC to run it. Looks like a great game. The more I hear about the Tex Murphy games, the more I think I need to check them out. Also, was the Star Ocean PS1 game the first in that generation to have action combat, instead of turn-based?
For sure check out the Tex Murphy games. I think they're pretty cheap. I'm not sure where Star Ocean falls in terms of first to do action combat. I didn't play a ton of JRPGs before this one.
* If you haven't already, check out *Heroine's Quest* , a fantastic tribute to Quest for Glory series. * I'm rather... neutral on Star Ocean Second Story. I played the PSP version, and while it was looking fun, I had grown so tired of the anime tropes of JRPG (it's a reductive terms, but that's how I felt) that I lost interest after a few hours And after playing the excellent Legend of Heroes : Trails in the Sky, my impression on it lowered even further. * I played the remake of Monkey Island 1/2, and they collectively are the best point-n-clicks ever. The pacing is spot on, something that I find other PnC's struggle with a bit. Only 10 games are remaining, but I can easily say you have a fantastic taste in games. Such a DIVERSE collection. Really enjoyed all the videos you've made.
I've played some of Heroine's Quest. I liked the tribute but also found it very challenging, I never knew what to do next. Maybe I should start it over again. I really don't like the anime-style portraits they added to the PSP version of Star Ocean. I have never actually tried that version though.
Hey Pam, have you ever played Horizon Dawn? Seems like a game you might like. Great female protagonist, lore based around a Matriarchy....can you believe that? I;d be curious to know what you thought of game if you have played it.

Cannot be Tamed lol thanks you have a nice list yourself lots of classics 😉 but the way that I formed my list was based on how all the games I play hold up today and of course with the improvements of technology most classic don't hold a candle to the games of today and the last 15 years or so. I tried putting as many classics as I could classics that are still great today theres not that many but there's still some that hold up today
Why did the footage from Shadow Hearts II have "SHADOW HEARTS II" superimposed over it for the entire segment? Was that a stylistic choice, or was it just hard to find gameplay footage of it?
That's from the cinematic that loops before you start the game, and that's how it looks. Maybe the developers were concerned people would forget what disc they had just put in their system?
Oh, I didn't know that was actually in-game, hah hah. I had never heard of it prior to watching this video - which is exactly why I started watching your Top 100 series in the first place.
Hav u ever played super smash bros. Melee? (Masterpiece), Portal, Sponge-bob Battle for Bikini Bottom, or COD 4- Advanced Warefare, or Bioshock? Oh and even though I haven’t watched that many of your videos, I think ur way cuter than SSSniperwolf who’s a famous you-tuber
Cannot be Tamed Did u ever play Bioshock Infinite, COD: World at War, MW2, Black Ops, Lego Star Wars, and Star Wars Battlefront,? And since u like retro games, I’d recommend Melee and the Sponge-bob one.
I've gotta say, I've learned of the existence of so many cool-looking PC games that I didn't know about through your countdown vids. This has been a fun series to tune in for over the months; will be bittersweet when it's over! Haha
I'm glad you've been learning about new games through these, I like sharing things people didn't know about.
Thanks for this. Alot of these games totally went under my radar.
You know your games! I love how much passion and dedication you have. Star ocean 2 and shadow hearts ii are such incredible classics. I remember clear as day being 10 years old buying star ocean 2 at a second hand game store and staying up all night playing it!
Thanks :) I've been really wanting to replay Star Ocean 2 after making this video.
The Secret of Monkey Island looks like a really interesting game and the art in the cutscenes look awesome. Great work on these, I've found out about a lot of great games I may have overlooked in the past or never heard of throughout your top 100 and I'm looking forward to seeing what your top 5 are.
Awesome, I'm always glad to hear when people have discovered new games from my videos.
I have loved this series of videos, really looking forward to your top 5!
Thanks!
Thanks Pam!!! Excited for the final 5
Great to see Shadow Hearts 2 so high on the list, I wish more games were like it! I always liked Karen's character, beautiful but deadly :)
I really like all the characters
I've loved the list! Looking forward to the last one!
Thanks!
It's PAAAAAAM! Gonna be a little sad when this series ends, but keep up the awesome work always enjoy your videos!
Thanks! I think I'll also feel a little lost when this is done.

I kind of want to replay the series. I only played the first game once.
That's awesome to see Star Ocean on here. I loved that game.
Me too!
Oh man so glad to see QFG4 up there. You have excellent taste.
And Monkey Island?! Rock on.
Thanks :)
We love you Pam. Keep it coming
I'm going to have to locate a copy of Star Ocean, I hear that one is amazing!
Well hello, it has been a while! Hope you get some more time again soon.
I think this is my first viewing of a video you've done that's brand new. xD Been enjoying the list so i can 't wait to see the top five!
I'm excited to finally get my absolute favourites out there.
Okay so I am going to lock in:
Planescape: Torment (at #1)
Mass Effect (don't know whether you've chosen one or lumped the series together)
X-Com (the modern one, not the '90s ones)(and the expac and/or the sequel)
The other two places I have no real idea so I'll try
One of the Civ games
Darkest Dungeon
Vampire The Masquerade: Bloodlines
Well... you should feel less foolish next episode.
I hope you get a chance to pick it up. And that you enjoy it!
Monkey Island is a classic!! Also, Pam, could you stop being so cute please??
I've tried, but I just can't do it.
Haha, Claude was such a bad cook.
Yay Secret of Monkey Island. I absolutely love the Guybrush and Elaine love story
Man I haven't heard of so many games on your list. I need to check some of these out! You have a pretty varied range of stuff.
Yeah, check some out, let me know what you think!
Shadow Hearts: Covenant is seriously one of the most underrated, uncelebrated JRPGs in history. Great choice!
I agree, I wish more people played and talked about it.

Pandora Directive and Snatcher are in my top 3 games. Great taste 👌
Nice
randomly clicked, and that time fell in love with a voice.
Your work inspirates, wanna be tougher.
Thanks

The last Shadow Hearts game doesn't quite live up to the 2nd, but I still enjoyed it back when it came out (haven't played it since).
Star Ocean is a game I have for my PSP but never got round to playing it yet.
It's a great game, though I'm not a fan of the visual upgrade they did for the PSP version.
Nice choices here! I always prefer people that make lists of their favorite games as opposed to "the best" games.
Thank you!
Iron Chef and RPG? Yes, please.
Right?!
Good games. I look forward to next part.
It should be out fairly soon.
I hope there will also be some more sweet NES reviews
Uh, oh! Looks like part 20 is going to be the final part next time.
I really want to play Blade Runner. I wish it was available on gog or steam or something.

Interesting. I don't think I've ever even seen a copy of it in person.
Cannot be Tamed you can easily buy it on eBay. Unsure about pricing though but got it for maybe 10 bucks last year.
this is why I scroll down the comments section of videos
I'm not even going to attempt to guess. Can't wait to find out what earned the coveted number one spot.
I kind of figured Monkey Island would have been in your top 5. Great game though!
It was close!

OH MY GOD, I realized my mistake 😅
My bad.
I've played some of Heroine's Quest. I liked the tribute but also found it very challenging, I never knew what to do next. Maybe I should start it over again.
I really don't like the anime-style portraits they added to the PSP version of Star Ocean. I have never actually tried that version though.

*episode 19 ! Geez I have no life*
I'm on time for once, and quest for glory has a messed up ending lol
