- When you live full-time in an RV with 4 cats, an effective cat litter box system is a must! But where can you hide the cat litter box? Most RVs are not made with cats in mind, so we had to create our own cat litter box system.
In this video, we will show you the cat café we built for our cat boys that house the best litter box for our RV and our RV lifestyle. We know this is not an option for everyone, but we hope that our DIY kitty litter box system will help inspire some ideas for your own RV.
SPECIAL THANKS to Charlie Wolfgram for helping us engineer and build this amazing cat café and kitty litter box system. His engineering mind brought our sketches to life with ease!
****Features of the Cat Café and Kitty Litter Box system****
The bottom floor of the cat café houses two enclosed litter boxes. Both of these cat litter boxes are top entry litter boxes and they help to eliminate litter tracking to the rest of the coach. We also have a litter mat and Frosty’s crate on the first floor.
The second floor is a storage area and has a hidden tunnel in the back so the cats can play and lounge around. The third floor is covered with a super soft memory foam mattress topper, another great area for the boys to lounge around.
Whether you live full time in your RV with cats or you occasionally camp or travel with cats, we hope you find the perfect solution for an RV litter box that you and your cats can agree on.

Alice's Rabbit great ideas. Unfortunately we’ve haven’t had time to make new videos for a long time. Hope to get back to it one day. Kitchen appliance I can’t live without? My Ninja Foodi. 😀

NICE. Was thinking of getting that for my mom on her bday coming up! No worries, no pressure, just enjoy your channel and your travel. ❤
Excellent pet parenting!
Yes, I was using arm & hammer double duty and switch to that it is amazing.
This is so helpful. Thank you! I inherited a cat and I don’t want to leave him behind with anyone else so I am watching and taking notes on how to bring him on the road with me in my motorhome. Your video is inspiring.
Thank you! We have 4 cats and have been trying to imagine taking a trip with them. I feel ready.
I'm so glad our video helped. We love having our boys with us and wouldn't do it any other way.
This cat condo cafe is brilliant!
Also, I agree with your assessment of the lightweight litter. So much unpleasant dust! Even the pine litter wasn't very great because it was SOOO lightweight it would stick to our very fluffy cat. She would track that stuff EVERYWHERE. :-)
Jami Good thank you. I’m so happy we made this. It’s very functional. The boys really love playing in and on them and it gives me extra storage not to mention keep the litter boxes out of sight. Have you tried Slide? It’s great!!!
@@RVAdventuresWithPets - I'm happy to check it out. I just started trying out the Arm & Hammer brand of litters (UltraLast!), but they all look about the same to me from the outside packaging. :-) So I'm happy to try out their Slide litter, if my store has it.
Thank you, you guys are brilliant! We are moving to live in a small trailer with 2 cats. This is a very good solution to solve our cats litter box issues!
tikky tumbo thanks. This has been working out really well for us and our boys are happy. Excited for your up coming move. 😀
What a truly clever and well thought out design. Thank you for sharing; you've given my husband and I some great ideas for how to do something similar for our four cats.
Thank you. I’m excited to see what you come up with. 😻
I just saw a video on Amazon that showed if u place the litter boxes with the hole against the wall, when the cats jump out after doing their business the residue litter from their paws should come off into the grates/holes on the end of the top.
Wow, this is such a clever and innovative solution to the kitty litter box problem! Living in a small space with four cats can definitely pose some challenges, but you've managed to address them all brilliantly. I love how you've created a custom cat cafe, complete with different levels and compartments, to keep the litter box out of sight and provide a comfortable space for your furry friends. Thank you for sharing your experience and inspiring others to find creative solutions for their own RV adventures with pets. Keep up the great work, and I look forward to more episodes from your channel! 👍🐾
I love your videos! My wife and I are soon to retire and hit the road with our 3 cats and 1 dog. You are showing us so much and we truly appreciate it!
Douglas Morosoff thank you. Glad you enjoy the videos. Excited for you all. It’s such a wonderful lifestyle and our furbabies love it.
Great design! I especially like the extra cat holes between levels. Very informative video. Thank you for sharing!
Love the video and educational. You solved my litter tracking problem. I ordered the mat right after the video.
Raci A yay!!! Let us know what you think!!
Unfortunately we have 4 cats and 2 dogs but man I want to RV full time
I so love your whole system. We also use a top entry litter box. Yes, I agree. The light-weight kitty litter is horrible. I am asthmatic and it was just awful to use. Definitely have given me some cool ideas. You have some lucky fur-kid's. Thanks for sharing. >^..^
Awesome love it 💙 Thanks!
Wow, 4 cats and a dog - that's our exact set up! I swear we didn't mean to have this many cats, they've been given to us
Haha. We know all about “didn’t mean to have this many....”. We just rescued a kitten last months. 5 cats and 1 dog now. 😂
Great System!
Thank you!!!😻
that's so cool!
Cool ideas!
Baby Cow is so chill!
Wow!!
So cool!! the set up is really smart)))
😻😻😻 I’m so glad I looked this up. Thanks so much for sharing your great ideas. I really appreciate it.
Our pleasure. Happy adventures.
Yep!! You guys have my interest super peaked!! Can't wait to watch more videos as I just subscribed. You guys rock!😻😻😻😻Friends for life!
that charcoal idea was awesome!!! I didn't know it could last 2 yrs !! thanks for info. :)
One can notice how much you love your pets! Amazing! I would do everything for my 2 cats as well in an RV. I also use Slide but mix it with the World’s Best Litter Lavender, and it never smells, plus no tracking.
Thank you so much. We do love our boys.
I'm so glad I found your channel. I love how much you love your kitties!
My babies are everything to me. 💖😻😀🐶
I love those ideas
Yay. Thanks!
Thanks!!!!!
Sandy Seward my pleasure. 💖😻
You are answering so many questions and concerns I have about living and traveling in a 25 ft trailer full time with probably 3 cats. I’m especially interested in products such as the Cat litter mess and smell, the litter box that has depth to it to better keep litter from spreading all over the trailer…
Bought the litter trapper matt. Thank you.
Oh I'm so happy I found you.. I hope some day my parents bring me on a RV advenure 😍😘🧡
We use pine pellet bedding, and have no odor- had 5 cats. Its very inexpensive at Tractor Supply and really dessicates the "deposits" well. Cna dump the whole thing (though some people sift) and its compostable.
We switched to pine pellet about a year ago and love it too. 5 cats here now. :-)
Thank you for sharing this video!
I am going to build something similar based on your ideas.
You guys are brilliant
Lori D'Itri awww. Thank you. We just love our boys and want them happy. 💖😻
Awesome ideas, Thankyou
Our pleasure.
I love how much you guys love your furbabies. 💜💜💜
Thank you. They are our children. 😻😻😻😻😻🐶
That's so great! So creative!
darling nikki thank you. Our boys come first. ❤️
Love your tips. Recently downsized from a class a to a b and finding a place in a class b for the litter box was challenging. The cat mat is genius.
Thank you for your very constructive and informative, but fun videos. I love the idea of the odour control bags.👍🏻
Thank you. 😻
thank you so much for those tips... I will try this new cat littler...
Rey Leon we switched to the Breeze system and use pine horse beddings now. ITS AMAZING!!!
don't suppose you guys have the details for how to build this? used your link for amazon.. very cool idea. I will be traveling with 4 cats so this is very helpful
Very ingenious. I had always heard that you should have one more cat box then the number of cats. Do you ever have any issues with them not wanting to use the boxes? Also do your cats ever try to escape when you go on or out of the RV?
Jean Decker we clean the litter boxes several times a day and they use them just fine. Two of our four cats like to walk on a leash so sometimes, if we haven’t walked them for a while, they will try to escape. One is so slow that he never makes it out before we catch him. The other one just wants to go out and lays down on the grass.
Thanks, I have 4 cats as well and they are messy. I have the honeycomb mats they are great, now I just have to get the top loading cat box. Thank you.
This is great! I am looking at getting an travel trail as alternative living and I have a cat and small dog and I was trying to think of ways to make it work for them. So I had an idea of a pet area. This has given me some good ideas.
Andrea Perez yay! Glad it helped. Happy RVing. 😻🐶
I didn’t know that there are top load kitty litter boxes! Also, those charcoal filters are great! I have some by a different brand and we are loving them!
Ashley Nicole Rice doesn’t top entry boxes make so much sense? I love them. I only heard of those charcoal filters recently and they are the best.
If you go to all the trouble of making an area for the kitty litterboxes then you should probably tile it so it's easy to clean. That way you don't need to worry about any saturation on the ply wood, which retains odors as well as staining.
That’s a great idea. This video is a few years old. We’ve since changed to pine pellets and bought the fur babies a new RV. 💖😻
@@RVAdventuresWithPets Maybe it'll help for the next RV ;) I know it's definitely a plan for my next house.
@@Briael we’re building a house now and we have planned an epoxy floor with drainage in the floor and water from a nearby sink to clean up any messes. 😂😀
@@RVAdventuresWithPets It's the little things that make the biggest difference, isn't it?
Great video! Where can we purchase those kitty litter boxes? They look great. Thank you!
My husband and I travel full-time with two cats. The best litter for an odor free cat box is the crystal litter. I hate the clay litter.
Why don't you face the boxes the opposite direction so more litter falls off as the walk across the litter box top before they jump down to the mat
If you turned your boxes around the other way, the cats would jump up onto the lid and leave kitty litter on the lid so even less would fall on the floor mat.
knittingknut that would be true but we have a hole to get onto the second floor right under the box so it’s easier for them to get up to the second floor with the litter boxes set the way we have them. 😹
Hmm, I wonder where I'll put the kitty litter box in a 21' 8" Class B+?
I'm owned by two cats.
Jon in rural BC, Canada
Glad I found your channel again! Had to replace a phone and some things didn’t come back.
Excellent tips for cat litter control, a home for the cat boxes and litter recommendations. (We already have in of the top entry cat boxes! We have been wracking our brains about that issue as well as safe travel for our four fur babies.
How did you help you cats to adjust? They they have trouble at first with riding in the coach? I would love tips about that. Thank you!
DianaM Ost yay. Glad you found us again.
We are so lucky in that our boys are all good travelers in general. We introduced the two younger cats, McAllister and Jacques, to the RV pretty much as soon as we got them.
The two senior cats also took to RV immediately. Every now and then Jacques would get nervous and we would use a little Feliway spray in his crate and he’ll settle pretty quickly. Good luck with yours.
RV Adventures With Pets thanks! We appreciate it!
I really like your video!!! But my cat loves/does "cat zooms" I don't see your setup working. But I want to know if your cat(s) zoom? That would help me figure out my setup. Thank you
I never thought of the top entry box.. may have to see if my cat would like it. I also wondered if a low voltage computer fan would help with odor.
Tim Taylor haha high tech odor solution! Slide works great for us and I’m surprised by how well the bamboo charcoal thing works too.
I am going be watching your videos more and have 6 cats and I try everything and and I am going start live rv because houses are to Expensive to live in and places only take one cat so thanks for help 😊 and if have any ideas for 6 cats that be great
We have three cats, two dogs. Thinking about doing a tiny home like thing.
Yay! Go for it! :-)
Will try the "slide" litter from Arm and Hammer. I don't particularly like the overall smell of that brand, I prefer Fresh Steps febreze and I've tried quiet a few brands. I'll let you know how I liked it. Also, Raci bought the mat 😂
Orfa De Armas I hope you like Slide. It helped us so much and that mat is genius!!!
Just be careful with any litter that has added fragrances. Cats sense of smell is much greater than ours and it can put them off using box because it's too intense for them. Dish soaps on hands and stuff too, because we all love to give our fur babies a good scritching.
😘
I would die for baby cow
Awwwww. Baby Cow is the sweetest baby. If you like a snuggly lap cat, he's purrfect.
Wow!! You taught us some great things!!
Susan Desousa yay. Glad to help. 😻
Just wondering what size your RV is. We are looking to travel with our 2 boys and 1 girl for 6 months and really love your setup, especially the litter area. We may want the couch for us though, Lol. You both have such a great vibe and we love your tips. My wife is 66 and I am 63. Thanks for all you do
@@susandesousa3265 sounds like a wonderful time ahead for your family. This RV is 34’. We’re in a 38’ now. Have so much fun!!
Pair your clever system with a powered Purrified Air litter box air filter and you would really have something.
Have you ever tried pine pellets? (Pelletized pine from tractor supply)? We're trying it and so far it's not tracking all over the camper. I can't tell if it's keeping the smell down or not. I'll ask friends, and if they say it does, I'll try the one you're using.
I'd try a top entry litterbox, but one of our cats wears a cone because of skin issues, and would have trouble with that kind of litterbox. We're hoping to find a vet that can help, the one we went to previously kept trying different meds..
I have 3 cats and I use them. I swear by them. I never smell the litter box. The tracking only is noticeable when it’s time to change it out. But even then it’s more like dust than anything
We have transitioned to pine pellets after we created this video. We love it!!!
How do your cats react when you are driving? I’ve seen several videos where there can be quite a bit of noise and turbulence. Does this freak them out? Do you do anything to help with this?
Sheila Burger we are fortunate that all 4 of our cats are expert travelers and just find their own spots to chill during the ride. Our dog actually has it the worse but we eliminated that problem when we bought a saucer chair where he can sit elevated and see out the window.
I have two dogs and three cats 🥴 I’m struggling with keeping a job due to mental health issues. I own my home and would sell it and buy an RV if I knew I could stay parked somewhere with my pets without violating any laws or rules
Just discovered your channel. I'm going full time in less than 2 months with my 11 year old "not declawed" cat. She has a few scratch boxes she uses, and likes to scratch on rugs.....no problem with that. But she still scratches on my sofa at home. I've used the double sided tape, and also the "X-Mat" to limit the scratching. but it still occurs. I never believed in declawing cats. That being said.....I'm worried she's gonna use the side of my dinette or sofa in my RV to scratch and ruin my furniture. I'm looking into covers for as much as I can in the RV. Any suggestions? Or do I just have to live with the fact that some of my stuff is gonna get ruined?
Put a tall sissel Scratching post wherever your cat scratches and they will use that instead of other things. I also use those cardboard perforated box thingys on the floor & Storage baskets that double as Ottomans she will -it tears up the wicker and it (looks shabby chic lol) & least she’s not scratching my furniture! Provide as many alternatives and be creative if you do not have to worry about them scratching your stuff.
Did your cats adapt quickly to the top entrance litter box? Seems kinda awkward but hell if it works.. Thanks for the info!
Dre1992 our boys took to it immediately. We actually changed our litter system. We now use a modified Breeze system using pine pellets. So cheap and no odor. Do a search for breeze kitty litter system. It’s awesome.
RV Adventures With Pets Tidy Cats brand? Looks pretty revolutionary if I may say so haha. Thanks for the response!
RV Adventures With Pets Are you still using those big boxes for the litter I just got a kitten and so I’m trying to come up with a system and I live in a trailer and right now I’m having to have the litter box in my kitchen which I hate but I don’t have anywhere else to put it right now there’s not a lot of room in the trailer so I’m trying to come up with a good system I’ve never heard of the system that you’re talking about but I was wondering are you still using those big tall litter boxes
What do you do with cats when parked and you go out for the day and leave them alone ? Heat?
Cats enjoy being kept in hot confined spaces. You can leave the AC on or vent the windows and keep the roof vent fans going which keeps it cooler than you would think
You can get a sensor on amazon that alerts you on your phone when it gets too hot inside the rv. Also, if our spot has an electric hookup, the ac can run while we're gone without wasting gas.
