    Pretty much agree to everything you said. Not many RUclipsrs doing Sylvaneth so I really appreciate your great videos. Keeps up!

    Thanks for the tier list, man, I just got into AoS with stormcast and sylvaneth, got an army in a trade and didn't know where to even start, I got
    Leaders:
    Lady of the vine
    Spirit of durthu
    Warsong revenant
    Arch-revenant
    Treelord
    Treelord ancient
    Battleline:
    20 dryads
    5 archers
    10 tree revenants
    3 kurnothi greatswords

      That looks like a great starting army. I think you'll want another box of Kurnoth Hunters to make that unit of Greatswords reinforced, but that's about it. If you're really interested in gameplay. I would try messing around with the list below and making adjustments based on your experience. This list is very slow and it only has two powerfully offensive units, but it has the benefit that every unit except the Tree Revenants is going to be very difficult to slay. You could also try a list with the Lady of Vines, but she is vulnerable to shooting and as a new player, it may be frustrating if she keeps dying early.
      Warsong Revenant (General)
      Kurnoth Greatswords (Reinforced)
      Durthu
      TreeLord
      Tree Revenants
      Tree Revenants
      TreeLord Ancient
      Dryads
      Dryads

    10 spite Revs actually do more damage on the charge in Forrest folk than swords on average. Problem is getting them all to a place where they can change...
    They really need speed.

    Twistweald has some uses, they fill out some niches with reasonable shooting (8 attacks at 3+ hit, 4+ wound rend 1 damage 1, 6 of which are shoot in combat) and can serve as a workable midfield screens due to reasonable health which is also complemented by their ability to charge debuff any incoming threat. Combat-wise they and spite-revenants really only shine when Drycha roams around casting Song of Spite. If that baby goes off, you got either (1) 2+ hit 3+ wound on 15 attacks with Crit Mortal (Spites) or (2) 2+ hit 3+ wound on 21 attacks plus 2 attacks at 2+ hit, 3+ would with rend 1 damage 2 on a target infantry. Couple that with Drycha, who in this edition it seems she is being pushed more to be an anti-infantry melee beast and you have a nice potential answer to swampy units. I do agree with the point cost though...

    • @gammafighter
      @gammafighter  13 дней назад

      I took another look at Twistweald in a later video. They are very efficient in durability and damage and I agree that they can disrupt and screen well. The issue is that their overall average damage is really low. They're good against other chaff, so I can see using them on the flanks to complete tactics and bully your opponent's chaff, but I'm not thrilled with them.
      It could be a fun way to play, but I'm not personally willing to invest into 2-3 Twistweald boxes and 2-4 more boxes of Tree Revenants to try it out outside of Tabletop Simulator.

    Just discovered your stuff and this was my first listen. Loved it. You didn’t mention the Warsong’s anti ward aura - that’s situational, but huge. Helped me a lot against Fyreslayers.

      Oh man, you're totally right! Thanks for pointing that out. That's another thing that isn't available anywhere else in the faction and is super rare in 4th edition overall.

      That's totally fair. I include one unit in pretty much every list I write, so I'm probably being too harsh on them, lol.

    Mostly good, personally I prefer the Warsongs Revenant over lady of vines for that play style. Not having to cast for the ward is great & they reduce enemy wards.
    Also, in that list I prefer the Scythes to the swords. One, less likely to be charging forward if playing that way, but also always being near a woods gives access to the rend spell buff making them rend 2/3 when charged.

    • @gammafighter
      @gammafighter  13 дней назад

      I think I am leaning towards preferring Warsong Revenant over LoV. It's pretty close, and I would like to run both, but I think only Warsong is better just because he benefits from Guarded Hero.
      I have also been thinking lately that if you're not using Belthanos, with a 5" move, it will be difficult to charge things with Kurnoth Hunters. I think there's merit to trying a full castle build with Scythes and a Branchwych, BUT it really doesn't feel like GW will ever allow such a defensive and reactive army to be a good strategy. If you give it a try, I'd love to hear how it does!

    Great video! I've been looking for a video like this since 4th edition came out. I am just still a little annoyed at myself for building my Kurnoth Hunters with scythes right before 4th edition was annonced and they had 3 rend!

      Thanks, I really appreciate the kind words! I was looking for a video like this too, lol!
      As long as you're not playing in a tournament, your opponent should be fine with you using your Scythes as a proxy for Swords.

    • @TiMRD
      @TiMRD 23 дня назад +1

      I think Scythes are still a good unit. Double team with Branchwych, stick them on central objective with LoV 5+ ward. They receive charge -2 rend and if u use spell get -3 rend. Branchwych can give strike first.

    Just found out about your channel, gonna watch all the sylvaneth videos, thank you for the hard work! Are you going to be focusing on sylvaneth on the channel or is it going to be a more general channel on AoS and Sylvaneth was just the first pick??
    I`m new to both AoS and 40k and Sylvaneth is my faction of choice for AoS!!

      Honestly, I started this because I was looking for analysis on Sylvaneth in 4th edition, but everything I found was in Spanish. There are a few other factions that I like, but Sylvaneth is my favorite by far. Is there something else in particular that you're interested in?

      Unfortunately, I haven't been able to play much yet in 4th edition. I'm very much a casual in this hobby.
      RUclipsr AoS Coach did a great interview last week with a Sylvaneth player who has been having a lot of success. I recommend watching that video. I am working on a recording my own video reacting to his interview and talking about the lessons we can learn.

  • @Dom-pu5hj
    @Dom-pu5hj 21 день назад +1

    Agree on most of this. I think LoV is a trap in the current meta though. Longstrikes are auto-include in most lists these days, and often reinforced in SCE... Which seens to make up half of every tournament I've played in. You're gonna see SCE due their popularity, and they're going to one-tap your LOV as early as they can

    • @gammafighter
      @gammafighter  21 день назад

      @@Dom-pu5hj Thanks for your feedback! I have been thinking about this. There are some armies, like Stormcast, where you would have to sit her back in the AWW in your deployment until you can deal with ranged threats. Depending on the rest of their army, you might be able to teleport her around to be out of their range, but even if you can, she would be much less useful anyway.
      Although, it's possible against those kinds of armies, you might not rely on her ward as much. There's a lot to consider!

    • @UberPwner09
      @UberPwner09 12 дней назад

      Agreed that LoV is a newbie trap. Yes, the "counts as AWW" ability is godly, and the 5+ ward aura is certainly fantastic, so you would think she'd be used like Larry (my funny nickname for Alarielle) and BelThanos, but that's dead wrong. Even taking 5+ ward into account, LoV is extremely flimsy with just 8 wounds, and will die to enough concentrated attacks, and that's even assuming her ward spell is cast successfully. She needs to hang back away from fights if you want her to survive, which is terrible, as Sylvaneth's monster units are the heavy hitters and tanks of the faction.
      With LoV's ward, she has about the same defensive profile as a (Maggotkin of Nurgle) Lord of Afflictions, but unlike a LoA, the LoV costs 60 points more, doesn't always have ward, and is a Warmaster, so she'll always be vulnerable to Priority Target. Worse, since she has exactly 8 health, she can't be brought back by Larry when she dies. LoV should definitely cost more than Drycha.

    Gossamid Archers are better than Kurnoth Hunters with Bows because they can get you the Flanks Battle tactic at the beginning of the game.

    • @gammafighter
      @gammafighter  29 дней назад

      Thanks for sharing your thoughts! That's a good way of looking at it. I think Gossamid Archers are flexible in that they can provide chip shooting damage and they can score you points. It's reasonable to say that makes them better than Kurnoth Bows.
      As I said in the video, I made the call to put them on the lower tier because I consider Kurnoth Bows to be better shooting and Tree Revenants to be better scoring. But a unit that can do both is arguably more useful overall.

    • @Dom-pu5hj
      @Dom-pu5hj 21 день назад +1

      They have very different roles and I wouldn't really compare the two despite them both being ranged damage.
      Mobile-ish harassing screens vs surgical hero killers.
      Also Sylvaneth doesn't have a problem getting flanks or quarters for BTs.

    Does lady of the vines have to ability to teleport anywhere through strike and fade and walk the hidden paths since she as counted as an AWW? since when she is set up she is within 6 inches of herself?? Or just other units can?? I am not clear on that. Thanks in advance for any advice or input.
