Amazing video, I’ve gone through hell learning how to properly diagnose and troubleshoot these air handlers with all the different resistance measurements and valve tests. This is the most mindblowly easy way to test these sensor I’ve ever seen!🙌
Thanks, yeah i totally agree about sometimes simple being better, although I can see the potential in these systems. Hopefully they are working the kinks out of these units. I spoke with a tech at train Friday and he said they're supposed to be coming out with a new TAM-X air handler supposed to be really nice.
I have the XV20 in my home. We bought the home in 2018. It had the original HVAC system from 1998. It was 3.5 ton system on a 5 ton home per the heat load calcs . Also the ductwork was undersized from the original installation. Decided on a 4 ton XV with zoning. First full month after the installation my light bill was $278. June July and August the bill climbs to $340. We do keep the thermostat at 74 most of the time which is where we like it. So far I have had zero issues. I vacuum the drain quarterly and use a 5” media filter. The zoning allows the system to maintain temperature since it rarely needs to cool 4 zones at the same time even though it’s undersized. Wonderful system I highly recommend this product if it fits in your budget.
I'm 29 and work commerical HVAC/R. I will tell you, we have a shortage of techs who can handle this. I'm getting paid stupid money. I love this new technology and I stay up to date every hour with it. Enjoy!
I have a customer who's lost his outdoor EEV twice on his and the second time the EEV took out his outdoor board. His was a 2015 tho. Once his is out of warranty it's going to be a nightmare. Had another customer who lost a trane ecm in his TAM and cost to replace it was over 1500 as trane wanted I believe 1150 for the motor and module, wouldn't sell just the module as the system was out of warranty (never registered by installing new construction contractor) had to buy the whole assembly.
The motor probably failed due to undersized ductwork. What was the static pressure once you had the motor replaced. Almost all EEV and TXV failures are caused during installation not from the factory. Two failures on the same machine tells me that the installation team failed to use proper brazing procedures. If it was a stepper motor failure then I would look at the electrical wiring.
The problem is there’s so much to know and a lot of techs are not going to take time to learn about all of it so they guess at it and nothing gets fixed until the 8th call back 😂
Great video. This past week just replaced my old 30 year old heat pump. Put in a Trane 16i with a Tam9. Couple of questions. How is the proper way to run the low voltage cable? On my install they run them between the door and the unit. Has to be a better way. Thoughts? Also seems to be a lot of air that comes out where the line set goes in and around the breaker for the aux heat. Thoughts, anyone? Thanks again.
@@williammorris3334 I just had an XL16i and a Tam9 with a 824 T installed a couple of months ago. I am pretty satisficed with it but have questions that the company that installed may not be giving me good info. Maybe they don't install this combination very much. Is there another way I can contact you? RG
High efficiency units are overrated and cost a lot to fix. Hvac units all do one thing keep you cool in the summer and warm in the winter. I always tell home owners this. They'd be lucky to save $50 a year on their electric bill.
Geeze hope I don't run into any problems with those things. Better be a Manual nearby. Have seen a few on maintenance but they were working. MR CUSTOMER YOU HAVE A 20 SEER Tam....call a trane guy if takes me more than 30 minutes to try and diagnose 😆
Funny thing is these things pretty much diagnose themselves so once you learn how to get around the menu sets, the system can pretty much tell you what's going on with it. For instance I replaced the compressor on one a few years ago that was able to tell me it had a shorted winding to ground. The compressor was running with a short and everything.

Awesome appreciate the feedback and I'm glad it was able to help thanks watching!
Nice troubleshooting. After seeing this video is the reason I don’t buy the super high efficient equipment. Sometimes simple is better IMO.

This is the future. Can't run from it. Must learn it, it's easy actually.

Awesome! Yeah the technology definitely makes the job a heck of a lot more interesting and enjoyable. Thanks for sharing!
That was some damn good troubleshooting!! Systems might be more complex but once you have worked on a couple they are easier to diagnose IMO
I appreciate the feedback and thanks for watching!
Appreciate the video just replaced a bad gas sensor and used your video for help
Awesome! Glad I could help: )

Yeah I hear you, the compressor I replaced on one a few years ago, I believe the compressor was about $3,500 just for the part!

Trane dealer tech here, there’s a slot in the air handler door for the control wiring so it doesn’t get pinched by the door. No worries.
Also yah some air leakage is common and part of the design. You can tape up the openings with duct tape if it seems excessive.
@@williammorris3334
thanks for the reply William. Have you had much experience with the Trane 824 thermostat?
@@RG_sssSMOKING extensive, I’ve worked for a Trane dealer the last 6&1/2 yrs and about all they put in is 824’s and 1050’s

Yeah, you're definitely not going to get very far without the manual diagnosing these systems.

I woulda put back on coil and left after checking charge again. Gotta assume its because it fell off 🤷
LOL, I hear you.
I can tell you how it got above 100.
I’m wondering that too?
Bryant extreme is the smartest
Cool I don't think I've worked on any of those systems yet
