A short video explaining how I simulate bullet impacts, in this case, on the groud for movie special effects.
You can also use a strong firecracker as the explosive charge.
First test: 4 squibs, 0.250g of a high, primary, smokeless powder
Second test: 1 squib, 1g of the same explosive
Ignition: homemade e-matches set off by homemade firing system.
An example of a high, primary, smokeless explosive is TATP. Here s a link to a video series, that doesn't belong to me, explaining how to make some. • Video
Like I said in the video, if you guys are interested, I will post an other video on how I made these explosive squibs and how I made the electric matches inside of them.

was there acetone peroxide/ TATP in those squibs or was it some other type of primary explosive powder, if so what was it ?

Hi my man, (I'm not the uploader, but an SFX tech) Yes, you use explosive squibs for concrete, you pre-drill a bullet hole, bury the squib and cover over with bentonite or fullers-earth to get the dusty puff, broken up cork sheet painted grey makes GREAT "concrete" chunks! For smashing glass, powerful squibs can be used, or a "trunnion gun", this is like a small metal syringe with a squib inside, when the squib is fired, it pops out a short pointed rod to smash the glass, (like on those little red safety glass smashing hammers you see in busses sometimes).
Many times, compressed air can be used for bullet hits too, a quick puff from a 12v solenoid valve on a high pressure line can do the effect cheaper, safer, and used over and over again at the push of a button. These are especially good to hide just below the water level to give the effect of bullets hitting water.
@@michaelfittonsfxprops3844 Great answer! Pneumatics are impressive. I mean vfx and sound libraries are so damn good these days that needing to get sight/sound/physical motion all from one device (i.e squibs) doesn't seem economical. Not to mention that there's assuredly going to be digital post-production so using VFX and audio libraries just makes more sense. Oh and the lack of required pyro permits etc. Sorry pyro dudes, you're rad but there's a lot of unsafe set pyro guys that make it hard for the risk to be taken on.

I was wondering if you could do this to make a Bullet hit in a door? Most of your videos have your explosives on the ground. Do you think that you could (theoretically) apply the same method of making squibs to a cheap door to make the effect of a door being shot through?

Sling shot? Then just remove the projectile in post
It looks more realistic if you use a small slender tube and put it in the ground at a shallow angle.
Where do you get all your supplies? Like the explosive powders and fuses and stuff like that?
I make everything from scratch, with stuff that can easily be found...

How does the squib blow up without producing a spark or a flash? My squibs all have like a 1 frame flash
Look on pyrotechnic forums and you can find a formula thats a called a dark salute or dark flash powder. Ive seen them at night as an ariel salute and just a tremendous boom with no light from it at all. Not sure of the formula because ive never personally made it but i know its out there. Try searching on a forum or on youtube for "firework dark salute" or something, then when you find the vid, see if you can find the formula. Best of luck.

Hello Nicolas. I was wondering how long the pyro-licensing process was and some basic things it involved. Are there mandatory classes, or do you just take a common knowledge test?
so how does it ignite the squib is there something els in there or is it just the end of the wire that sparks and causes it to expload?
and also could i get the same effect if i just buy some little m-80's from 4th of july?

How do they do those dorks? Like when theirs a shoot out in the movies they spark when they hit the walls?
I always wondered how they did that
with a paintball gun and zirconium balls.
Just shoot at the wall with noone there and use after effect techniques to add people there 😂

They are either regular bullet hits but with titanium or zirconium powder to make the sparks, or... (more fun) we use "Zirc hits", we get the 2 empty half-shells used in paintballing, and fill with some fish tank gravel, and a tiny pinch of zirconium powder, shoot them at the wall & the impact causes the gravel to grind the zirconium and make it flash & spark). you can also add red or grey dust if shooting at a brick or concrete wall of course.

So would it be safe to stand next to or right on top of it?
coasterguy1000 In theory, yes... However, the blast could pick up a rock and hit someone in the eye... so I would leave a good 10 feet of distance between you and the squib just to be safe x)

+CazaVideos005 I ll probably post a video about how to make them in detail soon... but basically the igniter is a filament I extracted from a light bulb... works every time x)
And the firing system is basically two 9V batteries connected in series hooked up to four independant push buttons... If you guys are interrested I might also make an other video explaining more about the actual firing system.

Don't make TATP please. Far too unstable. One moment you can hit it just fine and the next it explodes with a touch because the crystals sublimed into larger much more sensitive crystals.
