Great video Gene! We love your reviews! We are proud to offer these incredible products and excited to help customers in building their DREAM systems! We also offer free consultation to customize packages to each customers personal room and needs. 😁
I run a pair of SVS SB-3000's in my living room home theater. Those subs SLAM!!!!!
Gene, my setup is a little different, but it's still awesome. Marantz stereo 70s, emotiva airmotiv t2+, and two svs sb-2000 originals with the svs soundpath feet. Needless to say, my bedroom sounds great 👍
Really good 2.1 is really good. After building and fine tuning a new high end 2.1 system, I've been watching quite a few movies on it. I'm impressed with how immersive it is.
Agreed. I usually listen to music 2 channel and going 2.1 for movies is still a great listen
Between using my system on stereo content vs using the TV speakers... The difference is night and day, the TV sounds so flat.
Hi Gene.. Always enjoy your content!! I would like to know if the hecos you have already reviewed is also a good pairing with the 70s in terms of synergy matching?? Thanks!!
i've got dual sb 2000 pros with the prime pinnacles in 15 x12 foot room. plenty of everything.
I have 2 SVS SB 2000s they are awesome for the money. I wish i had purchased the pro series though.
That receiver doesn't really give you an upgrade to atmos tho. Atmos is about the height channels where objects can be placed. and that receiver can do either 7.1 which isn't atmos, or 5.1.2 with only 2 height speakers. For the price a 3800h/3700h on sale would be much better. There you can get a full 7.1.4 atmos set up for less with the 3700h or about the same with the 3800 on sale
Good suggestion , I will add a Denon AVR-X3800H as an alternative. I agree 4 heights is much better than 2.
Going from 2.1 to 3.1 was a massive improvement for dialogue clarity.
But here’s my question: would it be worth getting an extra two speakers for my system? The couch has to be on the back wall and the speakers would have to be directly next to the couch. Or would it be better to get a second subwoofer?
System is
Marantz cinema 40
KEF R3 LR
KEF R2 C
JBL PB12
in a 16x14x8 living room
And hey! I’d love to see general small room system advice!
Friend, tell me, I have bluetooth and wi-fi speakers (5 pieces), is there a receiver to which I can connect them all wirelessly and so that room correction can work with them?
Friend, tell me if there is an AV receiver that can calibrate the room if the speakers are connected via DTS play fi, in short, is it possible to build a cinema with Bluetooth speakers?
Is it possible or worth doing 5.1.4 if the ceiling in your room has a beam in the center and the back half of the room is 6 inches lower than the front? Also, if you have a 5.1.2, what are you missing from music mixed in 4 or more heights? I realize that in film you would lose that front to back movement but curious how things work with only 2 heights
Nice video! GREAT choice with speakers, Focal! You cannot go wrong with Focal either entry level or higher. I agree with your choice!
Excellent info for upgrade path. My own 2.1 that also can be used as 5.2.2 Atmos system consist of Yamaha RX-v6a receiver, with an additional Hegel h160 driving the mains, and also as a seperate 2.1 set up. The receiver does the processing and amplification for the remaining channels. However for stereo only music playback I use the internal dac of the Hegel 160. Adding a high quality seperate amp for the mains will always yield great benefits not only to ease the load of the receiver, but to deliver higher quality amplification to the mains. Thanks Gene.
Considering the hagel's specs, are you noticing any SINAD coming off the Yamaha?
@@awwbollocksthen1359 In actuality, the Yamaha signal to the remaining 5 channel has improved, cleaner and more dynamic. The H160 handles the main channels, when used in the multichannel set up. The pre-out for the mains on the Yamaha is decent, but not great. Thankfully, the h160 has a great preamp section that cleans the signal from the Yamaha. Please note that I use the h160 also as a separate 2.1 music only system, without the the Yamaha in the signal chain. I use the internal streamer/renderer in the h160, which connects to my wifi network with bubble upnp app, and the internal dac (far superior to the Yamaha internal dac for two channel) delivering excellent processing. Lastly the h160 amp section can handle loads down to 2 ohms, and deliver over 250 watts to my 4 ohm main speakers. Most multi channel receivers do a very good job in processing the digital signal of movies, however the quality of the amplification is what vastly differ. Adding at least a good to excellent seperate amp will most definitely improve the overall system sound quality.
@@davidrivera2165 Wow, that's very cool! If you're a music lover, which you obviously are finding a unit with these specs and features, let me just say what a splendid recovery! I congratulate you 👍🏻
This video came out on right time. I already ordered Marantz Cinema 70s and waiting for delivery. I ordered Marantz Cinema 70s keep it in mind to have option to upgrade power amp down the road as it supports all ch pre-outs.
Speaker going to have old Dynavoice DM6 book shelf with Elac 3010 subwoofer. Hope this os good match.
Thanks for the video, Gene! Would love to see you guys do a $1000 2.0 system.
With an upgrade path? The Kali in-8 is pretty dang hard to beat for $800.
The system I'd like to see Audioholics assemble would be a vintage system that is capable of using today's streaming technology. But still be built for less money and be "higher end" than new equipment. For example, perhaps a top or near top-of-the-line Pioneer or Sansui (McIntosh?) amp with Advent, Klipsch, or JBL speakers. Something that could be adapted to making a streaming service like Spotify or Apple Music sound good, even if not AS good as what can be accomplished with today's current purpose-built new equipment. (Which doesn't seem as much fun to me) Perhaps using an "obsolete" computer as the streaming source (MacMini?) and by adding an appropriate DAC and "black box" of some sort which could drive a subwoofer. This would seem to me to be a great conversation piece, at least for this aging baby boomer.
This would play well with an old obsolete super receiver that has an RCA 5.1 dvd input. With the pre-outs on the Marantz you could bi-amp some surround speakers with dual binding posts. Letting the marantz put all it’s juice to the mids and highs, and then probably 100w+ from the super receiver to drive the bass.
Those used super receivers kick around for just a few hundred bucks.
I was looking at this Marantz recently as a potential av processor. It doesn’t quite fit my use or budget, but I love what it brings to two channel with it’s room correction software.
I have been using the Cinema 70 to bi-amp a pair of Monitor Audio Silver 50 7G's. The Marantz actually lets you use the internal amps to do this. If you are not running an Atmos setup, you can use the Atmos amps to bi-amp your front mains. It certainly brought out the best in the Monitors for me. I did try powering them with a Cambridge AX 35 through the pre outs, but I think it lacked the power that these speakers like. I have really been impressed with the Cinema 70, sounds amazing and is all you need for small to med. rooms.
Have you ever reviewed Technics SU-R1000 integrated amp? I think it pairs amazing with Focal speakers!
No but I'd love to check it out after I get out of the endless hole of gear I need to finish reviewing.
For people who can't afford a system with a $8k amp preamp combo. Are there any good speakers in the $1k - 2k range that have built in amplifiers in the speakers? Sure you have to deal with the extra power cords, but if used as front/stereo speakers I don't think that many people would worry care that much about it. Especially if it means they can drive some good speakers with a relative basic receiver or Surround AVR. Just curious what would be available for something like that.
That method is more expensive than passive speakers.
if you want Good sound for reasonable cost, just get Emotive PT1 and BasX A2 or A3 and a set of speakers.
Don’t forget the flippers! For when you’re swimming in that bass!
I miss the Audioholics recommendation pages. The Axiom Audio system you guys recommended is what got me into HiFi originally, back when those were still sanely priced.
Yea it's so bizarre how their prices have skyrocketed. We definitely need to put more effort into this section of the website. thanks
@@Audioholics your M80-EP600 review is one of the great audio reviews of all time. So much fun. You said the dual 600’s turned your listening space into an amusement park. So what I did was buy the step down M60’s and dual EP500’s… and guess what? I put on The Incredibles and my basement was turned into an amusement park. Unforgettable first attempt at a home theater for me. Thank you for getting me into this hobby Gene. Not a single regretted penny.
Thanks Gene, I'm struggling to get suggestions for a good 2.1 system for a LARGE room. 6 meters X 9 meters. Most of the information online seems to cater for small to medium.
I just need streaming.
Aesthetics are important.
Budget? I'd like to stay under $5,000 USD.
Any ideas, anyone?

RSL Speedwoofer 12s sub: rslspeakers.com/speedwoofer-12s/
@@Audioholics thank you. I’ve had a number of RSL speakers and like them. I’m in Thailand so importing audio gear is expensive. For example, the 12S would incur tax and duty of 17% plus shipping of about $260. That puts it at $1190, which is more than SVS 3000 micro or SB 2000. It may still be the best option.
Brands than I can get here fairly easily are KEF, ELAC, Wharfedale. Not ideal I know.
I bought that receiver, Cinema 70s, last Christmas '23. It was wonderful and completely support Gene's assessment with one little pin for a specific situation. Unfortunately I have a gaming PC AND I was using the front preouts. Not sure if this is well known but most PC graphics cards have a certain amount of coil whine. Usually its not audible from outside the computer case. In this combination that coil whine was being passed though via HDMI cable, to the preouts and was coming through my speakers. Basically making it unusable for me. This was NOT a problem if you used the front speaker connections via the internal amp.
Please note PS5 worked with NO Problem via internal amp or the preouts.
Also note, I had a crown 1002 as the amp connected to the preouts.
So I had to return it. Was very disappointed to say the least.
I did find a very nice denon that had all the features I was looking for at half the price.

*none* snakeoil cables... but still not just the most basic and cheap stuff.. but hey.. it's snake oil.. :D why not just drop the whole system and go actives.. remove the cables all togheter.. ;)
Then you'd have no upgrade path to Atmos, which was the point of this video.
Poe says if they aren't Perlisten speakers don't bother, so he will thumb his nose to these...I don't know what us plebs are supposed to do, I guess use tv speakers.
No he doesn’t…you clearly don’t listen to what he says.
@@andrewskaterrr he describes in detail only those speakers have the spl to listen at reference. When I mention reference is too loud and it hurts at that volume, I'm told my speakers are clipping...which evidently I don't realize. but I'm glad I have my tv and bt speakers at least.
Who is Poe?
@@Audioholics Poe was a 19th-century American poet and fiction author who was best known for his tales of mystery and the macabre.
@@Audioholics ruclips.net/video/rbpEVDbzBAY/видео.html he might be on your staff
focal audiophile speakers are so ugly.. their pro line are nicer..
@audioholics does it have a 4 ohm switch though?
Probably, don't be tempted
😂 yep yep don't wanna have an impedance mismatch!
So assuming you wouldn’t be able to drive a Martin Logan SLM X3 passive LCR sound bar with the Cinema 70s ? The ML is rated at 4 ohms
