It is SVS's big infinite lie! If technology like that, which is at least 20 years old as long as a human life, is said to be revolutionary or a new product design that will change the world, then huh huh liars!
So what does the genelec 8381 flagship speaker dsp/full digital and also an analog speaker do for this with 12kw power? Maybe the quality of the sound is worse? The certain price is bigger, of course, but it was about exposing the lie with which these SVS: fraud-happy market-minded swindlers are now happily poisoning people. Of course, they may be good in their opinion, but they are far, far from the cutting edge of current technology. At least 20 years.

@@ToidVandersteen Model 2. Its more advanced that the SVS. Not only are the drivers time aligned, the speaker is phase correct, as well. The drivers on the SVS don't all move the same way, at the same time. One driver may move out while a different driver may move in the opposite direction. On a phase correct speaker, all of the drivers move in and out at the same time. The cabinets are more advanced as well. The mid and high frequency drivers each get their own enclosure, and are not part of a bigger cabinet. Doing it this way all but eliminates box colorations. Setup and positioning is also way more advanced. You can dial the speaker in to your exact listening position. They give you a formula where you input certain distance measurements and adjust the back tilt of the speaker. The back tilt adjustment allows you to keep the signal time and phase correct at your listening position. The SVS can't do that. You get one optimal distance, You can't fully compensate when you move your listening chair to a different position.
I'm kind of surprised you haven't heard of these speakers before. The Model 2's are the biggest selling high end speakers ever made. They've been in production since 1977.

DIY skeptics, there are no insurmountable problems to reproducing a similar design. DIYERS have been using this configuration since the early Audio Amateur mag days.
I’m not talking about exact duplication, certainly not voicing either. What’s the problem? Exotic tools, lack of courage?
It’s an interesting challenge for which SVS has chosen a very appealing scale, as opposed to Focal or Wilson Audio. Fear of producing the proper curvature, take Calculus 1.

Nope. This was just at CES and I wanted people to see the new technology coming out. These do have me very intrigued at their price point. They have put a lot of time, effort and research in making the speaker different/better? than what you’d normally expect or get in this price range. It’s exciting….if it ends up being as good as it is on paper. Luckily we should find that out soon enough. Coming from a DIY background you just see so many companies making so many compromises that affect the overall sound quality. It’s refreshing to see a company that appears to be doing it the right way.

How are these speakers going to change the industry? They made half of a time and phase correct speaker. They time aligned the drivers but didn't use first order xovers. Time aligning the drivers is a good idea, but if you don't use a first order xover, the drivers don't start and stop at the same time. One driver move in and the other moves out. They should have finished the job.

    • @MyFatherLoves
      @MyFatherLoves 5 месяцев назад

This is also false. We actually have no idea what order of crossover they're using. You're most likely correct that they are not first order but you are very wrong in the sense that if they are anything other than 1st order crossovers that somehow the voltage from an amplifier reaches each driver at different times. "one driver moves in and the other moves out" this can be corrected with a simple reversal on polarity of how a driver is wired from the crossover. The baffle being curved lines up the woofers in the same vertical plane. This time aligns them acoustically.

Force cancellation is nothing new and not marketing bs. it’s something that DIY have been doing for years, especially with subwoofers to kill cabinet resonances. That does work. However, I will be the first to admit that anytime you put a driver on the back, it can introduce other issues. So measuring them will be important. As with anything, we’ll have to see exactly how they measure, but everything that they put into it in the price range is pretty amazing. Hopefully this pushes more manufacturer to start incorporating some of this in lower priced speakers

@@Toid At the moment I’m doing a lot of research on ‘open baffles’. One of the big advantages is that the front and back waves cancel each other out at 90 degrees from the baffle. That makes the bass more or less directive. That cancels out a lot of room interference. The way it was explained was the opposite: you would get a doubling af the output at 90 degrees. That doesn’t seem logical to me.

    • @MyFatherLoves

Something that you're missing the explanation is that the "force cancelling" woofers both have power going to them. The woofer on the back is not a passive woofer. So, yes, in the super lows FQ band that's being fed to these woofers, there is a summation of signal.@@iwanoutmans3537

well happy to hear you get inspiration of course, that said loudspeakers have been solved many decades ago. no new tech partaining to dynamic loudspeakers will change the game, and the features of this new product will not translate to your future design. it is hype-branded with 'advancements in science' even though it's a regurgitation of tech from the 70s and 80s. nothing in this video (except for the motivation to start DIYing, of course) will improve your DIYing skills or your DIY builds, but it will distract you from finding out what it is that will help to improve. that said if you can hear past the inflated marketing jabber, and you want to buy, sure thing, and if you feel inspired from watching this video then fair enough as well. but apart from that videos like these offer nothing more than a '100k rolex watch show-and-tell' video

@@raoulselten9480 sure you may be right that it's technically nothing "new" except marketing jargin, but what is new is the accessibility of high end design like time alignment etc in lower and mid range speakers. I would also argue some technology is new and better, such as DSP, increased voicoil size and small boxes subs etc. The majority of consumer grade speakers from decades ago were extremely basic and weren't great.
As for inspiration, there is just so much to know about acoustics and design and preference that I like to take notes from major manufacturers like SVS and see what they do and see if I can implement some of their design in mine. They are currently way more expert than I am.

The addition of the output of all the drivers works great if your ears are opposite the tweeters. If your ears are higher or lower than the tweeters, there will be more peaks and dips in the response because of the multiple drivers.
Passive crossovers create inherent phase shift. While the drivers can be in phase with each other at the crossover frequencies, there is nevertheless a lack of timing coherency across the audio spectrum. It is simple physics and math. Only DSP FIR type crossover filters can fix or prevent that.
Other than those issues, these might be quite good speakers
