I can't find any spec for what slopes they use in the crossover, do you know? I'm a Dunlavy owner (SC-V, SC-IV & SC-III), so seeing SVS' claims makes my spidey-senses tingle a little bit. John Dunlavy showed that the only way to have accurate time-aligned passive speaker was with 1st-order crossovers, stepped baffles and sealed enclosures. Ports make the Q go way high, and 2nd-order and higher crossover slopes cause the impulse and step response to measure like 💩.
Okay they look good, but let us get real here. How do they sound in your room, my room, or with various equipment? Looking pretty does not mean a thing.
You’re right. There’s a lot that we don’t know about yet. And listening to those speakers in that type of environment, will never give you a great idea of exactly how they sound. it won’t be until people get them in for review and can do some testing in various listening areas that will get a good idea of exactly how good they sound. I am intrigued with everything that they’ve done for the price that they’ve done it for. so it will be very interesting to see how they do in the real world.
Was about to pull the trigger on some Klipsch RP8000 to go with my loved SVS sub, but now I may have to wait to see what SVS has came up with for HT sound. Always love what SVS does and their customer service is A+ just felt the SVS are great they fell a step behind on Klipsch for sound stage for HT
With a concave face, does this mean there is an optimal distance for them? Given how some people spend ages positioning speakers (me for one) for optimal sound with what we have, this almost seems like adding another thing to need to consider.
Time alignment will only be possible in one position. Once you move a touch in any direction it won’t. Plus it doesn’t make a difference We really need to see the measurements first on these speakers before making any assumptions
SVS has done pretty well so I'm sure they put some $$$$ into the R&D. They look and sound good on paper. Time will tell if they chage the game as there are already great performing speakers in the $5k range.
Awesome Video! 1. Do you think that the SVS Ultra Evolution Pinnacle Speakers sounds better than some of the open baffle speaker you have heard? 2. What is the most expensive box speakers can the SVS Ultra Evolution Pinnacle Speakers can equal or beat in sound?
Those are good questions that I honestly can’t answer at this time. I would want to hear those in my environment that I’ve heard other speakers. Listening to them in the environment that they were in is very hard to judge critically.
I think SVS is at the forefront of one of the big trends in audio. Front channels in a HT setup that are good enough to also perform well with 2 channel sound. I think there is real appeal to not having two systems, one for HT and another for audio. I can see this trend really taking hold in the sub $10,000 speaker market.
Comb filtering is not as big of an issue when your drivers are stacked vertically. It becomes more of a problem when drivers are aligned horizontally, like a center channel.
They are mounted close and only allowed to play in a certain band of frequencies so that they're combined output is summed. There is no comb filtering.
Thanks for going over these new speakers!! I’m excited to see the reviews!! I’m glad they are making a “middle road” size tower also!!! The tower with 4 -6.5” woofers fits my space perfectly (plus cost is less). Just curious, do those guys in the background not realize you’re trying to make a video that 1,000s of people are going to see??!! Umm… 🎉
I’m glad you enjoyed the video. And I agree I’m glad that they’re making a couple different sizes. I’ll be honest, I sure did laugh out loud when you put that last comment up . That was pretty golden.
Brands like Raidho, Focal, Vienna Acoustics & Goldnote have been using time aligned curved baffles for years, but you rarely can get your hands on one of these for less than $10K. SVS probably manufactures in China or Taiwan and they are pretty tight lipped about the quality of their drivers... meaning they probably aren't sourcing drivers from Seas, Scanspeak, SB Acoustics, Morel etc.... All that said a pair of TOTL speaker being $5k is decent value. I wouldn't say they're changing the game though.
You’re right. Most of the technology used in the speaker isn’t anything new. But it is new in this price range. I’ve always really liked glass fiber mid range. I’m tired of all the aluminum or cheap basic paper woofers. Give me some textreme, glass fiber, bamboo. But make sure you give me a reason why you’re using it. Don’t just use it because you’ve been using it for the past 20 years. I appreciated Nick knowing why they used that particular type of driver.
Should I pull the trigger on some SVS Prime Bookshelves or Towers at their discounted closeout price to replace some Infinity Primus Towers or wait for the SVS Evolution reviews? I've a 5.1 setup with an L shaped couch with multiple listening points.
Honestly, I don’t think you’d go wrong with the SVS that their discounted price. Especially since we haven’t measured the evolution yet. They have some really great design ideas, but we’ll have to see how well they were implemented later.
I’m not sure of any other speakers that push the innovation in this price range. But I definitely don’t know every speaker. If you know of any, let me know because I’m very interested.
@@ToidVandersteen Model 2. Its more advanced that the SVS. Not only are the drivers time aligned, the speaker is phase correct, as well. The drivers on the SVS don't all move the same way, at the same time. One driver may move out while a different driver may move in the opposite direction. On a phase correct speaker, all of the drivers move in and out at the same time. The cabinets are more advanced as well. The mid and high frequency drivers each get their own enclosure, and are not part of a bigger cabinet. Doing it this way all but eliminates box colorations. Setup and positioning is also way more advanced. You can dial the speaker in to your exact listening position. They give you a formula where you input certain distance measurements and adjust the back tilt of the speaker. The back tilt adjustment allows you to keep the signal time and phase correct at your listening position. The SVS can't do that. You get one optimal distance, You can't fully compensate when you move your listening chair to a different position. I'm kind of surprised you haven't heard of these speakers before. The Model 2's are the biggest selling high end speakers ever made. They've been in production since 1977.
Doesn't the curvature of the speaker limit the dispersion? I would have to imagine these are targeted towards 1 person 2-channel listening. Also, this kind of setup isn't new, which makes this video seem like an advertisement more than anything else, tbh.
Physical time alignment, which is the only thing that you’re focusing on, is not new. What is new is the additional physical time alignment plus everything else that they’re doing at this price point. What I am referring to is that typical speakers in this price range have always been built the same way. If someone can be successful with these types of designs at this price range, other manufactures will have to adapt to that. Which should mean better speakers at lower prices. If I had to do it over again, though, I would’ve said, has the potential to change the industry. Which really is what I meant.
Has anyone told you that you look like Patrick Stump's twin that decided to go into audio: speaker making instead of audio: music making? Thank you for the informative video. Did enjoy.
They really nailed the design. Focal has been big on this for a while, but the SVS looks much more understated and simple. They did a really good job modernizing this design, and at a lower price point no less.
I agree. The biggest thing for me is the price point of which they’re able to do this. Making it a lot more accessible for those that don’t/can’t spend the focal money.

The addition of the output of all the drivers works great if your ears are opposite the tweeters. If your ears are higher or lower than the tweeters, there will be more peaks and dips in the response because of the multiple drivers. Passive crossovers create inherent phase shift. While the drivers can be in phase with each other at the crossover frequencies, there is nevertheless a lack of timing coherency across the audio spectrum. It is simple physics and math. Only DSP FIR type crossover filters can fix or prevent that. Other than those issues, these might be quite good speakers
A lot of them have very strong, breakup modes that I don’t appreciate either. Supposedly this diamond coating helps prevent that. Unfortunately, critical listening in an environment like that is very hard to do. Hopefully I can get some in when they come out, that way we can see if that helps.
@@Toid I had a pair of Cantons that had a ceramic coating on the aluminum dome, it didn't help. Had to return them. Hopefully svs figured it out with the diamond. At least they make returns very easy, so you can try out and see. Those things seem like a pain to pack back up and return though. If they had a different tweeter I'd be much more likely to buy then. I really like the concept of them.
I really like SVS. I don't think their subs are a great deal anymore, but I have a pair of pinnacles and they are fantastic. I do think this new naming convention is silly.
DIY skeptics, there are no insurmountable problems to reproducing a similar design. DIYERS have been using this configuration since the early Audio Amateur mag days. I’m not talking about exact duplication, certainly not voicing either. What’s the problem? Exotic tools, lack of courage? It’s an interesting challenge for which SVS has chosen a very appealing scale, as opposed to Focal or Wilson Audio. Fear of producing the proper curvature, take Calculus 1.
They did sound great. However, critically, judging speakers in that type of environment is impossible. Hopefully I can get some in and give better judgement to the sound quality.
Lol, physical time alignment has been used for decades as has d'Appolito driver arraignment and tweeters that have gone up 30K. Nothing "game changing" here.
Are you working for SVS now? Serious question. Seems like it here. I'm a new subber but have watched you for a while off and on. Maybe sponsored by SVS?
Nope. This was just at CES and I wanted people to see the new technology coming out. These do have me very intrigued at their price point. They have put a lot of time, effort and research in making the speaker different/better? than what you’d normally expect or get in this price range. It’s exciting….if it ends up being as good as it is on paper. Luckily we should find that out soon enough. Coming from a DIY background you just see so many companies making so many compromises that affect the overall sound quality. It’s refreshing to see a company that appears to be doing it the right way.
Listened to the Duntech Crown Princess loudspeakers at the Winter CES of '87. Similar meme employing the Dynaudio line of transducers, when they'd sell their drivers to individuals. Maybe best sound of the Show, although the Lazarus Tube electronics driving the Apogee Planars were also very good. Nothing new under the sun.
I agree these will change the industry! They took advantage with the finish and general design to get something that doesn't give you audiophile bull shit, but would in fact be hard to achieve in the look if you were building DIY speakers!
The best speakers I’ve ever heard in my life were the danley sound labs synergy horn, all the teeters mids and woofers were horn loaded into one giant horn mouth. Insane sound, they all merged together perfectly

Typical American liars. There are plenty of these people on various RUclips channels in America these days. They don't even want to notice poisoning people in themselves.
How are these speakers going to change the industry? They made half of a time and phase correct speaker. They time aligned the drivers but didn't use first order xovers. Time aligning the drivers is a good idea, but if you don't use a first order xover, the drivers don't start and stop at the same time. One driver move in and the other moves out. They should have finished the job.
This is also false. We actually have no idea what order of crossover they're using. You're most likely correct that they are not first order but you are very wrong in the sense that if they are anything other than 1st order crossovers that somehow the voltage from an amplifier reaches each driver at different times. "one driver moves in and the other moves out" this can be corrected with a simple reversal on polarity of how a driver is wired from the crossover. The baffle being curved lines up the woofers in the same vertical plane. This time aligns them acoustically.
I’ll be honest, I think it would be very hard to duplicate something like this in the price range that they’re doing it. But it really would be awesome.
@@millenniumrun9995 haha! There’s a speaker for everyone. And not everyone wants to DIY. But it is nice to be able to look at it from the perspective of someone who does design speakers. @@raoulselten9480 sure you may be right that it's technically nothing "new" except marketing jargin, but what is new is the accessibility of high end design like time alignment etc in lower and mid range speakers. I really appreciate your journalistic objective approach. NOT Come on, you can do way better! The bit about the bass drivers on the back is clear commercial BS. If it’s the way ‘they’ tell us, it would load the room beyond being listenable.
Force cancellation is nothing new and not marketing bs. it’s something that DIY have been doing for years, especially with subwoofers to kill cabinet resonances. That does work. However, I will be the first to admit that anytime you put a driver on the back, it can introduce other issues. So measuring them will be important. As with anything, we’ll have to see exactly how they measure, but everything that they put into it in the price range is pretty amazing. Hopefully this pushes more manufacturer to start incorporating some of this in lower priced speakers
@@Toid At the moment I’m doing a lot of research on ‘open baffles’. One of the big advantages is that the front and back waves cancel each other out at 90 degrees from the baffle. That makes the bass more or less directive. That cancels out a lot of room interference. The way it was explained was the opposite: you would get a doubling af the output at 90 degrees. That doesn’t seem logical to me.
Something that you're missing the explanation is that the "force cancelling" woofers both have power going to them. The woofer on the back is not a passive woofer. So, yes, in the super lows FQ band that's being fed to these woofers, there is a summation of signal.@@iwanoutmans3537

Love my RP8000's I picked up for dirt cheap recently new...
It is not time-aligned if I stand up.... there should be a sensor updating vertical time alignment in real time, from whether I stand up or sit down.
Why would you be purposefully listening off-axis in the vertical axis?? Your argument is simply that. An argument for arguments sake.
With a concave face, does this mean there is an optimal distance for them? Given how some people spend ages positioning speakers (me for one) for optimal sound with what we have, this almost seems like adding another thing to need to consider.
DSP and acoustics are the solutions to problems.
what do you think svs evolution center big difference old svs center between them??
Time alignment will only be possible in one position. Once you move a touch in any direction it won’t. Plus it doesn’t make a difference
We really need to see the measurements first on these speakers before making any assumptions
Time alignment works in this design perfectly in the horizontal axis and then has a gentle roll off in SPL in the vertical axis.
They look good! But I wish there was driver trim rings to hide the screws for a more modern look
That would be a really nice touch!
Can someone tell me why comb filtering wouldn't be a problem with two mid drivers? Am I missing something?
Comb filtering is not as big of an issue when your drivers are stacked vertically. It becomes more of a problem when drivers are aligned horizontally, like a center channel.
@@chrishernandez2490 Got it. Thank you.
They are mounted close and only allowed to play in a certain band of frequencies so that they're combined output is summed. There is no comb filtering.

hi,just found your channel and enjoy your content.i just subscribed as well.
Are the grills made of plastic or metal? Are the cabinets made with High Density Fiber of Medium Density Fiber board?
My concern might be the height of the tweeter off the floor Is it ear level?
How low will the frequency response go abd what is the power rating? Are these 8ohm speakers?
Vapor deposition was used by Yamaha starting in 1975 in their NS-1000 and 1000M series speakers. Old cutting edge tech.
0:04 What is that triangular wall covering in the back? I have seen it before and want to know if it is a product.
You can get them from my Amazon link: amzn.to/3SboWEX
Looking good ! 😂 Cannot wait to hear them in person
What are the frequency responses.
I understand it's clickbait and I like cheaper speakers who look cool but this is not groundbreaking...
They've been in production since 1977.
the tweeter is located very low
They didn't say directly that the speakers are indeed made for dwarf men and women.
@@oliivioljy9700 It's just my experience that tweeters should be in ear height for the best sound stage
And they are still inflated.
What is the retail price
@@pataldorr 3 Towers: Ultra Evolution Pinnacle is $5K/pair; Ultra Evolution Titan is $4K/pair & Ultra Evolution Tower is $3K/pair.
The Ultra Evolution 3-way Center is $700.
2 bookshelves: Ultra Evolution Bookshelf is $1,200/pair & Ultra Evolution Nano is $800/pair. Ultra Elevation height is $800 each.
Looks awesome. Aluminum dome tweeters give me headaches though😢
@@Pete.across.the.street I agree. I definitely would not want to return them.
These will not change the industry. Of this, I'm sure.
genelec ones, master series, and new 8381 is perfect.
Some cables for RCA receiver pre-amps to power amp inputs would be nice for the accessory lineup as well.
Wonder what crossover guy will say?
It looks like a d'Appolito, did you at least offer Joseph a token amount?
Reminds me of the Dayton array. Great idea with an assortment of problems, but they (taken from reviewers) sounded great.
They did sound great. However, critically, judging speakers in that type of environment is impossible. Hopefully I can get some in and give better judgement to the sound quality.
Thanks Canelo for updating us. By the way when did Canelo become a speaker salesman
Lol, physical time alignment has been used for decades as has d'Appolito driver arraignment and tweeters that have gone up 30K. Nothing "game changing" here.
That's actually impressive! (Coming from an engineering background)
They look like the Focal Kanta speakers
At a much more affordable price.

Americans often lie on RUclips. Even now, they did this very brazenly.
Thank you! I appreciate it!
How could you say change the industry when we dont even get to hear them?????
Got your back Toids. Time for a clone, non-profit for the MASSIVE DIY population.
I’ll be honest, I think it would be very hard to duplicate something like this in the price range that they’re doing it. But it really would be awesome.

Chill out dude... I'm a DIYer and all I'm getting is inspiration for my next build. Keep in mind, many just want to buy as well.
well happy to hear you get inspiration of course, that said loudspeakers have been solved many decades ago. no new tech partaining to dynamic loudspeakers will change the game, and the features of this new product will not translate to your future design. it is hype-branded with 'advancements in science' even though it's a regurgitation of tech from the 70s and 80s. nothing in this video (except for the motivation to start DIYing, of course) will improve your DIYing skills or your DIY builds, but it will distract you from finding out what it is that will help to improve. that said if you can hear past the inflated marketing jabber, and you want to buy, sure thing, and if you feel inspired from watching this video then fair enough as well. but apart from that videos like these offer nothing more than a '100k rolex watch show-and-tell' video
@@raoulselten9480 sure you may be right that it's technically nothing "new" except marketing jargin, but what is new is the accessibility of high end design like time alignment etc in lower and mid range speakers. I would also argue some technology is new and better, such as DSP, increased voicoil size and small boxes subs etc. The majority of consumer grade speakers from decades ago were extremely basic and weren't great.
As for inspiration, there is just so much to know about acoustics and design and preference that I like to take notes from major manufacturers like SVS and see what they do and see if I can implement some of their design in mine. They are currently way more expert than I am.

@@Toid Could it be that he was 180 degrees out of fase?😉
