thats the kind of humor i was looking for.
It was actually crazier. Its not the same in a game with respawns and no mortars. In the real deal, the beach had been presighted with not just mortars but artillery as well.
No graphics issues either with full frame rates

i met the Brazilians sent to Italy invasion, one of them made a german friend
When I was in Basic Training in the Army, we were doing mock patrols. The Drill Sergeants would randomly throw smoke, sim frags, and sim arty grenades. After a few had been tossed, I happened to be right next to my Senior Drill Sergeant, and he deployed a sim frags grenade. I yelled "frag out" to warn the guys in front of me. A guy saw it land beside him and he dove right on top of it. It went off underneath him, and he starts yelling and screaming. The Drill Sergeants and I go running to him to check how badly injured he was. He rolled over, and the front of his BDUs are shredded in parts and he was on fire somewhat. We put out the fire, and I grabbed his bandages and start working on him to stop the bleeding. Another Drill Sgt. called for emergency extract for him. We get him loaded and he is taken to the base hospital where he received treatment for 3rd degree burns as well as some cuts he had gotten. The Drill Sergeant gathered everyone up and proceeded to tell us he would not be joining us again because he was going to be rolled back because of his injuries. The Drill Sergeant that threw the grenade looked at me and just started dying from laughter. I could not help it, and started lmao as well. The Drill Sgt. told everyone he had never seen a more brave stupid private than the one who threw himself on the frag sim. Told all of us he may be the first Private to win a Medal of Honor while in Basic Training lol. Good times. Ft. Leonardwood, Missouri, C-5/10 Infantry, 1995.

When you spawned at the front of the landing craft, it reminded me of my grandpa's story of when he was in WW2...he was older than a lot of the other guys and they used to all look up to him as a father figure (i.e. he was 35 and everyone else was younger). But during the battle of Okinawa, when his unit was in the LC, everyone started shuffling around and then he found himself at the front next to the ramp as they were motoring in to shore. He turned around and said to all the other boys, "You sons of bitches!" Some of the Marines laughed because my grandpa was really funny and always joking. But everyone was scared.
We made a USMC unit insignia plaque that he mounted to the outside of his small house when I was a kid. I didn't understand the meaning of it at the time because I was a kid. But for decades after that, people would come visit him, Marines, family members of Marines, and thank my grandpa for helping them through that war. Even strangers would come up to the house who had served just to meet with a fellow USMC vet.

This map needs more ambient things going on to make it feel more real. It need distant firefight noises, pillars of smoke, distant artillery noises, more screaming, npcs on either side of the out of bounds areas on the beach running up the beach and fighting. Stuff like that

Yeah as it turns out 100 people isn't enough for the game despite being 100 people. I expected it to be all chaos but it's just 15 minutes of walking towards gunfire in the middle of bumfuck nowhere Europe before some American shoots you 50 yards away despite you being behind a stone wall.

I can only imagine what this would’ve been like In real life, my great grandpa was in this battle. He was in the 3rd wave, he got blinded in one of his eyes from a mortar but he survived. He died a while back but still amazing how he survived
That’s crazy. The anticipation of the door to the landing vessels opening has me in awe. The fact that these were mostly young men 18 - 30 is just insane. Nobody can ever prepare for something of that sort no matter what training.
