I have made pancake mix for over 40 years. When I make it up I do it in batches of about 26 cups at a time in a huge metal bowl I have. I usually make up 2 batches, so I am making 52 cups of mix. I store it in a 5 gallon bucket and just refill a 12 cup rubbermaid cereal container for everyday use. When the bucket is getting low I know I have to make the mix up again. You may think that 52 cups is a lot but we have pancakes or waffles at least once a week, so that 52 cups is about 3 months worth. I also make my own Bisquick and several other mixes. When I was a new mom I bought 2 books called "Make-A-Mix Cookery" and "More Make-A-Mix Cookery" (both by Karine Eliason), and that is where I got the recipes from. We raised 6 kids on just one income so money was always tight. Making my own mixes helped keep costs down. Even though we are a much smaller family now that my kids are grown, (2 youngest are special needs and still live at home) I still make the mixes. It is part of my prepper pantry.
My Mom bought me those same cookbooks when I first got married. We had so much fun getting together to make up mixes. These became part of every wedding shower gift. Several years ago, we bought the new all in one book. Even though I live alone now, I still keep many of the mixes on the shelf as became so dependent on them. Once my 18 month old came up missing. Found her sitting on floor of pantry with lid off of brownie mix, stuffing her mouth. The door did have a child proof lock on it. It has always been a consistent part of my mixes 40 years later.
I have those same 2 cookbooks (I got married in 75). For the last 3 or 4 years I made the Spumoni Cake for Christmas. My grandkids love it. I haven’t made it in a while but there’s a recipe in one of them that has stew meat, along with a couple cans of various cream of soups. I’m sure there are some more ingredients, but I can’t remember at the moment. With the recipe it gives other recipes you can make with the cooked meat mixture. When our kids were growing up we got to where we would use the mixture as is over mashed potatoes. Yum, now I want to get my cookbook out!
@@lynnkavanagh7361 I will have to try that cake. I marked that as a "try it" in 1980 when going through it first time but never have; think it's time. Thanks for the suggestion. I also kept the meat mixture prepped in the freezer; solved many a what's for dinner dilemma.
Ordered both. Tysm!
Try adding Nutmeg to Pancake and Belgium Waffle Mixes...boosts the flavor. And instant coffee to the Brownie Mix. Increases the Cocoa flavor.
STAY TUNED FOR PART 2 TO THIS VIDEO. I WILL BE SHARING THE COOKING STEPS AND IT WILL BE A COOK/BAKE WITH ME STYLE VIDEO, AS WE TURN THESE DRY MIXES INTO TIME SAVING, DELICIOUS FOODS!
Angela I've seen gallon jars at Walmart!
@debbiecanada8204 that's good to know! I haven't been inside Walmart for a while. I'm a pickup order kinda gal 😉 Thanks for sharing that!!
Brilliant! This is how you get subscribers with bells - two stage videos!
I appreciate the fact that you are properly measuring, leveling off with a knife, etc. I teach Family & Consumer Sciences classes (Formerly called Home Ec.) at the local High School. Most people don't properly level off ingredients. It is so hard to teach students proper measuring techniques when they don't see proper examples in the videos that they watch. Thank you so much.
Another retired FACS teacher here🥴 Amen to setting a good example. However, many cooks learned differently and if it works for them… hats off to them👍
When making my dry mixes I NEVER thought to use my Kitchen Aid mixer and mix up the dry ingredients in it . I always used a wooden spoon or a whisk by hand , so my hands thank you as the mixer saves me that struggle,So thank you for sharing your fantastic tip to mix it up in the Kitchen Aid stand mixer plus it will mix it so well that all the ingredients will be well incorporated. I also like that you’re making up LARGE mixes because it lessens having to make the mix up again so soon especially if our family isn’t as large as yours is . Blessing
hello; I am a new subscriber from Michigan. thank you for the recipes. I would also be interested in spice mixes as well as soup starters, ranch dressing mix and taco mixes, ect, if you have those, it would be fun to make thank you.
I am new here also, and I would like them too.
@Wanda6308 yes! Those are coming. Just got back from our trip and ready to get some more content up 😊
Tan, Yellow, Lime Green, Orange or Blue Painter's Masking Tape works great for Labeling as well. Cheap easy to use Sharpie marker and comes off without a sticky mess.
Great tip!
Made the cornbread mix and baked it! It was perfect! I used Azure cornmeal and Azure powdered buttermilk in the mix! It was perfect taste and texture! ❤❤❤
Wonderful! I am so happy to hear that! 😊
This is very helpful. Just so you know, you don't have to continually measure out tablespoons and teaspoons. 3 tsp = 1 TBSP, 4 TBSP = 1/4 CUP, 8 TBSP = 1/2 CUP. Saves time.
Grandma used 1 gallon pickle jars and Mainaise jars. She kept everything in canning jars. So I started doing that to. Works wonders.
WISH I HAD DONE THIS WHEN I HAD MY FIVE KIDS! WILL USE THIS SINCE WE RUN A RESTAURANT!! ❤
ask your restaurants for those glass gallon jars. most of them throw them out in garbage
I have friends that own a skating ring and they sale pickles there, I buy their gallon glass jars from them and use those, just $2.00 a jar. I store lot of our dry mixes in them. Ty for your videos, God Bless 🙌
Consider using glass jars with wide mouths to store you’re goods. It is much easier to dip from and doesn’t make the mess!
Anchor Hocking jars on my counter
Great content, but consider not REAL TIME measuring. Watching you measure out 12 cups of anything is not view conducive...just a suggestion.
Newbie: hint one quarter cup is 4 tablespoons. I love this idea!
OMG! I just wanted to say your Belgian Waffle mix is so delicious!
I made a batch of the mix and made some waffles from it and it was a winner!
Also, I forgot to separate and beat the eggs and just plopped them into the batch I was making. The waffles turned out fine. So good!
Many thanks for posting these mixes. I sure appreciate you.🙂🙂
I make jar mixes for cornbread, scones, molasses cookies, applesauce bread, chocolate chip muffins and a few more that are single mix equal to one batch. It makes it easier for me because it is just dump and add wet ingredients like a box mix. The pancake mix is the only one I make the large mix for because I don’t know how much I am making at a time. I label the outside of the lid with the name only and still have to flip in the cookbook to finish them unless I am taking them out of town and I put directions on a post it note to make. Super great in the big jars.
Could you share scone and applesauce bread recipes? Sounds so yummy
@@carolynmills513 I do any recipe where it asks you to do the dry ingredients in a separate bowl. I don’t think I can type both recipes out but they are listed on my blog at NOVA Frugal Family. I just finished eating my last Greek Yogurt Scone that I made yesterday. Super yummy.
@@NOVAFrugalFamily tysvm
@NOVAFrugalFamily omgoodness you have some amazing looking recipes! Cand wait to try pumpkin scones and applesauce bread. I forgot that I canned so much applesauce and even stewed apples. I poured a jar in a pan and topped with struesel topping to bake alongside meatloaf yesterday. But I still have tons of applesauce.
AWESOME ❣️
Everything except the cornbread looks great. I can't put sugar in cornbread 😢
Could you use buttermilk powder in the dry mix and then just use water when adding the wet ingredients? That way if you dont happen to have buttermilk or milk to make ur own buttermilk u can still make the cornbread.
Absolutely!
I keep dry buttermilk on hand because I just don't cook and bake often enough to keep fresh on hand. 😊I will add the dry in this recipe.
Just make sure the buttermilk powder doesn't have to be refrigerated! 💜
If you were to use the buttermilk powder, what measurements would you use?
Thank you for these ideas… keep them coming!
@@karlamandrell3954I keep my buttermilk powder in the freezer because I usually only use it for ranch seasoning mix. I also keep that in the freezer. I heard you can keep it in the freezer for a long time without it going bad.
I m new here , i m from Belgium , the waffle mix are not really Belgium , we do not baking powder inside , we make themm with yeast , the waffle mix you make are for German Waffe 😊but your other mixes are very helpfull, thanks so much ❣️👍
Get a grain mill and only use freshly milled wheat cooked the day you mill it. It really isn’t that much work to make these things the same day. It’s totally worth it. The health benefits are amazing.
I want you to thank yo 23:16 u for your videos I actually make meals ahead of time and put them in the freezer but this is an additional way to save time. I don't know if you've ever tried this but I find weighing the ingredients is a lot faster than scooping them. I initially started weighing things because I would forget how many cups of something I put in and I take everything out and start all over. I hope you'll give it a try and see what you think. Thanks again
Just found you. Thank you so much for taking time to do this. ❤
I am definitely making these! I love that it is recipes that are tried and true by you and they are all shelf stable.
I'm so glad I found your channel!! I am a fellow Colorado mountain resident. I love your ideas. You are a very beautiful young lady and I look forward to using some of your ideas. Growing at my altitude (9700 feet) and pressure canning is out of the question for me. But storing dry goods and water-bath canning are possibilities for me. I look forward to your videos and will be binge watching! God Bless you and keep you safe!!!!!!
Walmart sells the 1 gallon jars too…they sell them 4 in a package
@gigib.965 thanks for sharing that. I just learned last night that they are discontinued long-term from Azure. Amazon has been my other go-to for them, but a 4 pack of them sounds like a much better deal!
Yay. Just found your channel. This was very helpful. I really appreciate it. Can't wait for the next one. Would love to see how you use each one.
Welcome to the channel! I'm editing that video right now and am hoping to get it up this evening! 🌻
So happy I randomly found your channel. Really appreciate your content, it has been very helpful.
@@tiffanyc2018 I'm so happy to hear that! Thanks for being here! 🌻
Ooooooh. I love this video. I am VERY NEW to canning, preserving and prepping. I am slowly learning and have started to build my pantry and freezer . I have a long way to go but I appreciate your videos I’ve learned a lot ❤
I am so happy to hear that, thank you! You've got this, and it will add up in no time! 🌻
I love your videos. You are adorable. I could have used this video when I had all 7 kids home. Now they are grown and it is only me and my hubby. Fortunately they live close. I homeschooled too. We lived in northern Utah for years but now live in Idaho near the Utah border. Love living in the mountains
Can’t wait to try these. I like prepping stuff ahead.
I have found weighing my ingredients saves all that scooping and is more accurate. 😊
Correct! I do that sometimes, too. 😊
Ah this is such a game changer I love convenience but non of the strange ingredients
YES! I am always trying to prep ahead to avoid buying the products with those hard to read ingredients for the name of "convenience."We use these mixes so much, and it makes life just a bit simpler.
@@rockymountainhomesteadangela I always say if i can't say it im not eatting jt
Love that standard!!
THANKS SO MUCH. You can put clear packing tape over the writing on the outside of the jar. I do
I’m surprised the brownies don’t take an egg or two. Thank you for the mixes.
Oh my goodness!!! Thank you for catching that. They take 4 eggs!! Just went through and double-checked all the recipes I typed out. I must have been in a hurry.
Good Evening Angela, I really enjoyed watching you show us how to make the dry ingredients to be ready for us when we want to bake them 🧇🥞😋💯 Thank You for sharing 😊💞
New viewer. I'm just one person and retired but being a cook and baker I love to bless my family and grands who are close by I make large quantities of self-rising flour and corn meal mix. It's so convenient and a time saver. Thanks for the brownie mix. That I hadn't done yet. Are they a fudge or a cake brownie?
I would be worried about the fumes & possible toxins from the marker getting into your food by writing on the inside of the lid. I would suggest making a label & put it on the back or the bottom (although it might be kind of awkward to tip the jar to see it if it’s on the bottom). One of the canning companies makes a dissolvable label that washes right off when your done with it. I think I’ve seen a similar label on Amazon too.
Great idea!!
I’ve done similar in the past but haven’t had any for some time. It’s always so helpful to have mixes of things you make often ready to go. I’m curious about using buttermilk powder in the mix rather than fresh buttermilk. Buttermilk powder is on my shelf but I don’t often have buttermilk unless I’m purchasing it for a cooking/baking project.
Good ideas, thanks for sharing.
I never buy buttermilk either. I usually make my buttermilk with a ratio of 1 TBSP white vinegar to 1 cup milk. I don't see why you couldn't use buttermilk powder instead. I honestly never thought of that before for my cornbread. Great idea!
I was going to suggest the same thing! And if the mix includes eggs, use powdered eggs also. Then all you have to do is add water!
@@thegraymarlin I hadn’t thought of that! That is a great idea.
Great idea!!
I just found your channel. Just a thought. Freshly milled flour/meal is much looser than pre-milled, packaged flour/meal. Make sure to stir or sift your flour/meal before measuring.
Get a china marker/grease pencil. It will come off glass cleanly. Great video..
New Sub, I just love your explanations and step by step process. I am making this dry mix today, great idea as I struggle with the Pre Plan... TY
I really enjoyed this video! I love the variety of mixes you can make and how they are stored. Thank you for showing us how to make up these mixes, quite handy to have in the kitchen and what a time saver!😀
uline also has those gallon jars very good price
This was great. Going to be easy to put together for the two of us or more if we have grandkids over. Hearts and flowers coming your way. ❤️💐
was just looking what buttermilk recipes for my excess. so glad to have found your channel! making things like this in bulk is perfect for my large family too! Thanks!
Thanks so much for this video! Also where did you get your hoodie? Its super cute 🙂
Such a great idea. All the store bought mixes are fully of such bad ingredients so making these mixes will ensure there are no additives. Thanks.
Hey how are the baby goats doing?
Yes, that's why I love making these! You can still have "convenience" without the harmful ingredients!
The baby goats are growing so much! We ended up keeping two does from one of the mamas. 🩷
Bless you, for putting the recipes in the description!
I LOVE these videos! I am going to Walmart tomorrow and getting some basics and I plan on making all of these! Thank you!
Such a great idea!! Just found your channel and am loving it!! Thank you for all the work you do I going to have to binge watch your videos!!
Thank you for making this video. It's the first time I've been to your channel and I'm liking it.
I have a KitchenAid stand mixer lift bowl too but I'm wondering what the metal attachment is that is on top of the mixer bowl?
Many thanks! 😊
Bowl guard with a chute. Common in larger mixer seldom used.
What a great idea, pre mixed packets are so expensive!
Do you have a hot cocoa mix recipe? I have an old one that uses nestle quick, powder sugar and non fat dry milk but would like to try something else
Oh man I love this video.. yes please make more of them ❤❤❤
Thank you for the recipes. My question is, on the cormeal what type of corn did you mill and where do you get your corn? Also what setting did you grind the corn on the wondermill. Thank you for your time in answering my questions.
You're welcome! I get my corn from Azure Standard. I use the "coarse" setting for milling the corn. www.azurestandard.com/shop/product/food/grains/corn/whole/yellow/whole-yellow-corn-organic/7438?package=GR026
These look amazing! Looking forward to your next video! ❤️
I’ve been looking for a cornbread mix video! Will give that one a try! Maybe the brownie mix too, if I can calculate how to reduce it to 8 x 8 size. Thanks!
I just stumbled on your channel and it’s great :) I have a couple of questions …1 How long can they last on shelf and is dry milk the same as powder milk and last can you share your large containers that you store your flour and sugar in??? Everything you shared on here are things I would love to make:) My hubby loves to make pancakes and this would be great for him:) You do have a large family so I would think you go through these quickly:) I did subscribe to your channel, so I look forward to seeing what else you have to share. . Tfs and God bless:)
Just found you and subbed. I love that you are going to be precise. I live alone so this will be really great. Thank you.
Thank you so much, and welcome to the channel! 🌻
New subscriber here, 😊 I love how clear your instructions are. Thank you.
Welcome to the channel! 🌻
Great idea. Very novel. Great gift idea as well. Thx
Good morning! I just subscribed! Looking forward to enjoying these mixes during the cooler months! Thank you for the recipes ❤
Thank you so much, and welcome to the channel! When we get back from our trip tomorrow, I will be sharing some more mixes geared toward the holidays 😊
Just curious what the shelf life is for the mixes especially for the baking powder.
Personally I would go by what the date is on the baking powder if I was doing it. Just my opinion.
Don’t worry it don’t spoil
Yes nice to have the mixes.
Thank you for sharing. This is very helpful and you are right, very convenient. Time saver.
Nice recipes, I think I'm going to figure out what proportion of buttermilk powder and try those in the buttermilk recipes. Thank you!
I just found your channel and I’m super excited about your mixes. Question: where did you get that flip up thingy on your mixer?
Welcome to the channel! Here is a link to the kitchenaid I believe my husband bought me a couple of Christmases ago. This one has the bowl guard on it. amzn.to/4eKtzzz
Which kind of corn do I use to make your cornmeal? Is it the kind used for popcorn?
Thanks for share this video!
You're welcome! It's different than a popping style corn.

just found your channel and subscribed, love the dry mixes and can't wait for part 2. Do you have a video on shelf stable cake and cookie mix?
first time I saw you on youtube. Love it!
New subbie here! I'm totally here for pantry mixes!
Thank you for sharing. New to this so appreciate your obvious efficiency,
❤ Great video & instructions. Watching ALLLLL the repetitive measuring almost made me leave the video though. However, I love your ideas so I stayed. 😊
Thanks for sticking around! I usually have everything all measured out and ready to go but my kids had SO many of my prep bowls and measuring utensils in the dishwasher, I just had to wing it and go for it as is. 😅
Thank you so much, this all will be great addition to my pantry
Newbie, love this video!
@@patriciaholigores4931 so happy to hear that! Welcome to the channel 🌻
Regarding the jars you have put the dry ingredients in with the screw on lids, can you suck the air out of those types to preserve the ingredients longer? For an empty nester like me and my husband, I would worry it would spoil because that amount would be available longer. Thanks for the video!
@mgwyn4544 you're so welcome! You can't do that with the jars and metal lids I used. We go through it so quickly, though. For two people, I would suggest using half gallon mason jars and vacuum sealing for longer shelf life!
quick question - on the cornbread mix, after the baking soda, it looked like you were about to add something else from a quart jar but the video jumped to the sugar...was that baking powder? And. if so, how much? Also, you mentioned salt but it isn't in the recipe in the description section. I definitely want to try this. I have a lot of buttermilk powder and think I may add that to the dry ingredients as well. Looks yummy, thank you!
I appreciate your comment. The salt was missing in the description, and I did just fix it. It's 1 tsp. When I grabbed a jar and then it cut into me, adding the sugar instead, that was me trying to edit in a clip. I had added the salt and then was about to start mixing and forgot I didn't add the sugar in. Just trying to combine two separate clips and that was the best I could edit it. Buttermilk powder could work as well! 😊
@@rockymountainhomesteadangela thanks, it looks like a great recipe!
Thanks for sharing. Love these kind of videos. Can't wait for the next video.
Thank you , live this. Use to have a make a mix cookbook but list it. So this is very helpful.
Thank you so much it will be such a time saver and so convenient.
Great video. I can't wait for part 2. I will try this. Thank you 😊
I have brownie mix in a 4 gt ice cream pail included my own fry mix and store bought mixes and put slip on cover what to add to make it- i do same thing with pancake mix and do at times do both mixes into muffin tins- like them that way
This was a fun and interesting video. Look forward to future mixes. New subscriber.
I love this. Thank you so much for this video.
Hi I just Subscribed! Great recipes! You came through my feed. Can any of these recipes be halved when getting ready to cook them? I'm just one person in my household.
I just found your channel. I have recently started making mixes. I haven't done it for years and years. I noticed that you scrape off the cup in a different way. I just scrap it straight off, but you kind of dig in one way then back the other. Is there a reason for that? Thanks for the recipes. Can't wait to try the corn bread
Love love this video! Just found you so definitely going to watch. What about have a cake mix dry ingredients jar?
Thank you so much!! Yes, you can do muffins, cakes, and cookies as well. I have another video I will be doing as soon as we are back from our trip. We get home Saturday, and then I look forward to getting some more content out. 😊
I love the grinder could you share where you purchase it.
Thank you times are tough right now
Thank you for sharing these great recipes
You are very welcome! I have a few more I will be sharing, geared more for the holidays 😊🍂

I am so happy to hear that!! Welcome to the channel, and thank you for your support! ❤️
Just found your channel! I’m so happy I did! New subscriber here
Can you use Buttermilk powder (Azure’s of course) instead of regular milk powder?
@bevdixon9615 Yes! I just didn't have any on hand at the time I did the video 😊
So happy to see your video!!!😊
On the cornbread could you give a value for adding dry milk to your recipe? It would be a complete mix then
I don’t have a kitchen aid mixer any ideas on if a hand mixer could work?
Yes! That would work just as well 😊
I’m often cooking for 1-2 people. To reduce one egg in half, I just use 2 quail eggs!
Would a 10 inch cast iron skillet work for the 13x9 cornbread recipe or should I use the 8x8 cornbread recipe. Don’t want the cornbread to thick, but don’t want it too thin either. Thanks in advance. And thanks for this video! It’s just what I needed!
I really enjoyed this alot
thanks for the recipes. Do you every use powdered eggs in your mixes instead of adding the fresh at the time of making?
Yes! I know not everyone has powdered eggs on hand or powdered buttermilk, so I tried to keep it more realistic in the video for others. 😊
Love this!! Thank you ❤
