You resist jumping on the Old World band wagon like a Hobbit resists the Ring.
I like that lol
What a lovely old-fashioned table with lovely painted models.
I absolutely love it
Out of all the editions of WHFB 4th and 5th are my favourites. Ioved the magic cards made magic interesting - so many memories 😊
Sooo nice to see some proper Warhammer being played. 3rd and 4th edition were my Fav.
I play 3rd! It works fine so why play anything else! :D
Hell yeah! About time someone recreated the definitive campaigns of Warhammer.
Love this Josh! Very cinematic, gorgeous armies and a story well told! Best battle report I've seen in a good long time! Looking forward to the rest of the series. This must have taken forever to make, but the effort was really worth it.
I really enjoyed this one, guys! Thanks for putting in the work. Looking forward to the next one.
Love the intro Joshua! Great stuff man, and absolutely loving the style of this battle report.
This might be one of the best Warhammer Fantasy Battle reprts ever created.
I don't state this lightly.
From Owen's amazing narrative to the background music, and sharp video and turn by turn terse narrative.
Just amazing work, Joshua!
Paul seems like a pretty fierce opponent, but also, the High Elves seem to have their back to the wall vs Dark Elves using 5th ed rules.
As Borat might say, " Nice, very, very Nice!"
This! Is the way to do it! Stellar presentation, thanks to beautifully painted miniatures and great scenery.
We need more of this! Good luck in the ongoing campaign!
When I played it, I won all 3 scenarios with my High Elves before the final battle, but lost the big finale.
It can go either way, no matter if the outlook from the first three games is rather grim or if you have all the advantages on your side!
What a great looking game. I always really liked the High Elf vs Dark Elf rivalry in Warhammer Fantasy
Two truly fantastic armies Josh ! the 90s aesthetic showcased in their well deserved glory :)
At last! I've been waiting on your rematch with Paul since the first one. Great to see it. I can't wait to try this one out for myself once I get my High Elves painted up.
Some thoughts:
1.) Hatred is so powerful in 5th. Getting to take your break test on an unmodified 10 makes even weak units nigh impossible to break. Paul's tactic of sacrificing some spearmen to tie up your High Elf chariot and Silver Helms for several turns was genius - and wonderfully Dark Elfish. Your Shadow Warriors played a similar role in stalling Mortharor and the Corsairs. Perhaps with a few more, they might have held out a turn longer.
2.) I wonder if, perhaps, the best chance for the High Elves in this one is to try and take out the hydra or Cold Ones with a charge from the chariot. The scythed wheels and impact hits probably give the best chance to overcome either the high toughness of the hydra or high armor of the Cold Ones.
3.) Relatedly, I wonder what would happen if Kelendar charged the Corsairs head on and called out Mortharor to a challenge in single combat.
All told, great show! Thanks for putting this together for us.
It happen in our first play a few years ago. It came down to me needing to make two 5+ saves to stay alive which I failed
Very cool. Those armies perfectly encapsulate the 90s!
Cold ones don't need to test for stupidity after they kill something btw and don't have frenzy (sadly).
Oh really? Thanks for the input and I will have to check the Cold One rules again for this clarification. We are playing 5th edition and using the 4th edition army book if that is any consolation
@thecrownofcommand5830 yeah, actually they lose stupidity after having fought one round of close combat. That's 4th ed army book I'm referring to. They're still pretty good though.
This was an awesome battle report. I'm getting into 5ed this year (previously played 6th and 8th) and the game has been very instructional for me.
Thats an excellent report! I feel you really found a great format here. And the true elves won! The High elves are not so high and mighty now are they! ;)
I ready for some more plans within plans!
5th edition ❤
The definitive.
@@BonzoDrummer I agree :)
Loved this. Both armies look amazing too. Looking forward to scenario 2
I'm catching up with these, great first game! Always loved the magic system and items in this edition.
This actually stimulated me into getting a few more dark elves together 😊
Would love to see that Phil and please showcase them on your channel
This is Warhammer! What a brilliant report. Loved it. Keep up the good work!
Thank you so much and more videos to come soon
Such an epic Battle ⚔ Thank you!😀
I bet Paul was much more pleased with the performance of the Cold Ones this time!
Yeah and he didn't take the banner to stop Studipity on purpose as he likes rolling for them
Oh my my. I love it. I'm an irreductble player of Battle v6-v8.
I love your chanel.
Your mini are good painted :)
Gongrat.
Thank you very much
Fantastic game! Really loving this format mate :)
Wow, what a great Battle Report 😍
Enjoying these reports, saw this one second and the second one first hehe. I must say though, as a HE player myself, it always seems like the HE archers are worth more points than they should be in the game, but I do love the minis
@@xyonblade thanks and only saw your comment this morning. Yeah I think all archers are not that effective in the game but the High Elves do pride themselves on archery. If you get lucky and score enough kills on soft targets like goblins, then it feels right.
Loved 5th edition warhammer. Though the hatred rules always struck as so unfair. The Dark Elves and Dwarfs got rerolled to hit on the first turn and unmodified leadership 10 against their chosen opponents. I used to not play with it when I fielded dwarves against my friends orcs and it just felt ridiculously unbalanced.
@@rajpreetdhillon8084 yeah I agree the Hatred rules are pretty broken having come back to it and played 5th Ed a few times now with Hatred as a rule for one or both armies. But of a grind too
Yeah, honestly the game is much better with the rule removed completely. Even the toned down version in 6th edition was obscene when applied at an army level.
Great battlereport! Keep it coming
This was awesome ❤️🔥
Fantastic report, looking forward to the next one.
PS. Where do I get those dice.... haha!
Haha I got them from a friend and patron mate in the US. I know they are available on Etsy. They are my favorite dice now for obvious reasons
Great battle report my friend! Very enjoyable as always!
Thank you my friend. I’ll be in touch soon again to chat on the podcast and get medieval with you lol
@@thecrownofcommand5830 hahahaha Any time dear Joshua!
gday boys that battle report was pure warhammer fantasy porn !!!! its was breath taking, absolutey amazing, keep them coming pls , it almost bought a tear to this old dark elves eye well almost we are way to cold ,cruel and cool to show emotions
Happy to hear it warmed the cold hearted Dark Elf heart of yours my friend lol
@@thecrownofcommand5830 Lol 😂 Stay Safe LEGEND 😎
Yeah. It's Pornhammer !
@@vlastdenaggarond5958 😂
Is that a GW hydra? I have one in a box downstairs somewhere but can't recall what it looks like.
I'm pretty sure that it's Ral Partha. We got it right when we started and GW didn't have a hydra then.
I think so Mike. I’m not all that familiar with the Dark Elf range of models. I’m sure someone will comment soon on it
I like the High Elf tower. Looks like it's made from card? Can I ask where you got it from?
Yeah thanks mate and Paul found a scan and upscaled it and printing it out and glued it to card etc
@@thecrownofcommand5830 Thanks for responding. I always wanted one of those towers as a kid. Sadly Fantasy Battles isn't popular in my community but I still have my old High Elves, so I love watching your battle reports. The format and length is great. Thank you so much for sharing.
Good video, but I find the blur on the edges distracting.
Thank you for your feedback. I like the effect myself but I can understand why it wouldn’t be everyone’s taste
@@thecrownofcommand5830 it's cool it gives a bit of a retro feel to it :) perhaps slightly reduced would help
This feels like a game lost on the dice. The dice was why I didn't fully like this game when I did play it.
@@FurryCruz yeah that’s a fair statement and the dice can screw you at time for sure. But that’s part of war gaming maybe. I can’t think of playing a game without dice tbh. That magic moment when you need a roll and get it is just the best feeling for me personally. Thanks for watching and commenting.
I don't know if the blur effect is from the camera or editing, but it makes the video unwatchable.
Sorry about that and no more blur effect from that video onwards. I appreciate your honest feedback
Does anyone else get the impression GW doesn’t want its release of The Old World to succeed? Many of the models are re released old models from 1996 onwards and the new models were not produced to sell on release, only pre order. So, no new models to look at in the shops, no user reviews because no one can get their hands on one without committing money before knowing exactly what you are buying. The display kits for box art were very badly painted, as in extremely poorly painted. I’m so disappointed ☹️ 😢 I was looking forward to a complete makeover of the Empire, High Elves, Bretonia and of course the Dwarfs. Such a lack lustre effort is shameful. Rant over. Great video that only makes me hanker for the old days even more 😢👍♥️🇬🇧
I think they went in for a "safe" release and tried to manage expectations, but the demand is higher than they anticipated and recently one of the managers of the project announced that "the scope has grown", although we dont really know what this means yet and he also said that they are currently focused on the planned releases which is a lot of stuff to release within a year.
Why on earth would a multimillion pound company actively develop and release a product that they secretly hoped would result in anything other than a huge windfall for their shareholders?
I think they want to keep the budget low and not commit to huge amounts of new models.
@@colbillingtonfor the lolz
Oh yeah sorry let’s just get them to release nine rangers entirely repainted and with lots of new models within one year. Sounds easy.
The black horror used to stay in play and continue to move across the table. I think you could bounce it with wind blast. Was that different in this edition?
Yes it is as College Magic was in 4th and in 5th they used battle magic which is different and I think they just took out some spell interactions in 5th
