Looks like shimano doesn't like honest reviewer, thanks for calling them out!
4:27 that's all right llama, we still love you fleas and all 🙂.
3:14 - Love it - Road riding in Australia - LMAO - Love your work - keeping it real
"When life gives you lemons..." 😅😂🤣
That cracks me up, thumbs up to @GPLama
Finally ppl getting sense for 2x
I have Di2 GRX on my gravel / training bike. The lever is indeed magical to hold / use. Not so good if I want to go aero - there the DA / Ult brifters are rounded / flatter (?) and more conducive to racing position, but GRX definitely feels good in the hands.
1x is for hipsters 😛
I am guessing electronic shifting is side stepping tourer 3x setups entirely? Any news on that front? Is that a market even still?
Judge a man by the enemies he makes. Shimano not quite an enemy but still, it allows your branding for honesty to be reinforced, which is a good thing in this world of media misinformation.
Given the number of subs and views you have, consider doing a poll or a petition so we can vote and say we want you to get Shimano stuff for testing.
They're being petty.
I just end up buying it when it’s commercially available. My money will be down for the 1x version of this when they get around to releasing it.
@@gplama Opulence, you has it :)
Thanks and honesty is still the best policy
Finally we get the one button front shift! Love it. Hang on... to do this you need to update the shifters which you can't easily because they're wireless... fkkkin crazy.
Thanks for being a good and honest reviewer!
Did the firmware update and NEXT is working. I assigned it to both left side shifter paddles. Going for a ride in a few mins to test it out. I’m very happy for this new option :)
3:17 LOL!! Same here at times in Vancouver, Canada. Chapeau Lama!!
no differnt in Germany 😜
3:15 LMAO
Love your comments and reviews!!!! SRAM all day! I have nothing inherently against Shimano but once I went SRAM like 15 plus years ago, I have not looked back! The new Red has to be phenomenal. I cannot justify the price, but Force will be my upgrade from my Rival AXS on my C'Dale!
GP Lama is doing free consulting / advisoring for Shimano.
That’s pretty much every review.
sh:tlisted aka 'Hammerheaded' with no reprieve on the horizon. shimano added another facet on why it is hard to love them :)
2x for the win.
*Win on the road. I might put up a poll on this one for gravel.
I mentioned this on a different video without checking it, but you can configure any modernish version of Di2 with synchroshift.
If you do this you only need two buttons... one to shift up, one to shift down... the front will automatically shift up or down as needed and it will trim the rear up or down a couple of gears as needed.
This means not only not having to figure out when you want to shift your front ring... it will always be in the right one.... BUT you also get 4 buttons for use on other things.
Yep. Covered this a few years ago here: Shimano Di2 Synchro Road Shifting: Details // Configuration // Switching Modes
ruclips.net/video/Z-IuDe7Jklo/видео.html
This 2nd or 3rd review I listen today and see no differences other the shifters. And Javier depending on how it weighed. The difference between shimano or sram is gear range, full wireless, and who send you money to. SRAM equipment is just their road parts but with rear derailleur with long cages for more gear range plus clutch to stop chain bounces. Shimano has the braking historically but new red can change that. Wait on the long term use reviews to see how new grx di2 compare to sram axs system.
1x is coming, chill homie
But I want them to take my money! 💰 🤣
@@gplama lies, you want them to burn in hell
You can tell, he is pissed…😂👌
I’m here. And yes.
Shane, whats with the option to use a xt-di2 12f derailleur with the grx shifters? (I do this with 11f successfully for years)
1X? I would be more upset when only 1x. I really don't get 1x with all the big jumps if you want range. Still think the position of the 'secret' button is awkward. Should be at the underside of the shifter body where your fingers are riding on the hoods
I'm sure you on their VVVIP's list
I suspect if you want you can get an unstoppable cage and upgrade....
I am not seeing the firmware v4.2.0 in my e-tube app. Any ideas why? I only have R8150 and R7170 on my bikes and I would like to test the new change function...
I hope they've fixed the hood fit,I found the hoods to be a bit poor fitting.
I just don’t get it. But ok, the old GRX di2 was also 2x.
But I just built my own GRX di2 1x with an old XTR di2 unit at the back.
I wonder if the new XT di2 also works with the new GRX STI’s ?
Can you run 40t cassette in a 2x setup?
Do you know if you'll be able to use the shifters with the road di2 12-speed groupsets?
Yes
Can't wait to give this single button front shifting a try on my 105 Di2 - that's always been my biggest issue with this groupset, figuring out which button to push to shift up and which to switch down, so having a single button do both sounds like it'll make things a lot easier. It really is too bad that Shimano is such a shit company in a couple of ways, though (them blacklisting you for speaking the truth about their power meters, the way they make their Di2 comm protocol proprietary to fuck with SRAMerhead).
Gotta be the battery life on the 1x. I has sram 1x and love it but for long distance the battery life is not that great
Is the reach longer still compared to the road shifters? Super annoying for my trex arms...
Good question. Not detail I was provided with.
+1 for more smart arse comments! Gotta make the most of that shit-list spot ;-)
Due to your reviews I gave the Shimano power meter a pass, thank you for that. Question: I have my Ultegra 12 Speed Di2 wired in full, removed the cell batteries and also using custom shifter buttons - will the GRX support that, too?
I suspect 1x is coming next year…. I really really really wanted that NOW though 🙄
There’s a lot of 2024 still left. I’d love to know the reasoning on this from them. They’re always up for answering these questions, right….?
Would I be wrong in saying it's just removing the front mech and chain ring? Or is the RD different? My 11 speed GRX Di2 mech only takes 42 teeth. I plug a front mech in when I want it as my road bike. I take it off for gravel mode.
@@TrickyTree84 you could do that, but… RD-RX825 is the 105 RD with a clutch - it goes up to 36t max. I would’ve loved a real wide-range derailleur.
@@BetterShifting Yes, the RD-RX825 looks like 105 Di2 with just a clutch added indeed. Since they were already in the process of adding stuff to existing components from other existing components, what's so hard for them to put the 'brain' from all those other Di2 mechs along with the port for BT-DN300 to their existing RD-M8150?!
@@jeskli11 I bet they're working on a fully wireless MTB rear derailleur instead. It makes sense to have a 1x wireless RD for MTBs... but it also makes sense to have the e-bike MTB RD (M8150) wired :}
I started wearing gloves and my 8050 shimano hood rubber gets twisted
Dear Shane, If you do not feel the need to answer, it is also good. In connection with the purchase of a new Garmin, I have the following question. I now have the 1030+, is there another successor for the 1040 coming soon in the coming period ? Thanks in advanced for you're answer, Regards Jan.
I don’t cover leaks unless they’re well out in the open. As soon as this happens or a new product arrives I’ll be covering it here in the channel and my other social media accounts.
@@gplama Thanks for you're respons..
Shimano please make Di2 for hybrid bikes
They have the Alfine
2x is better in my opinion u can run 42t cassete and be able to still pin it down the rail trails
What do you question di2 1x? For 1x setup you can just go with 12speed rear derailleur and cassette and then you have it.
Not exactly. It’ll get close but not enough gears on the back with a max cage capacity of 36 on the rear.
I don't think I have the mental capacity for all this change.
I sure hope they spent more than 2 minutes engineering button feel this time. I don't get why Shimano's electronic shifting is good but the actual shifter buttons feel so dollarstore.
So why wouldn't you just stick with SRAM Red at this point? There's not a whole lot of chain slap with the orbit fluid pseudo clutch thing and you almost get similar gearing with a 10-36T rear and 46-33T chain ring WITH a working a power meter? It just seems a whole lot easier to invest in the SRAM ecosystem and then have the components available to mix/match based on whatever you're going to be doing that day.
I mean sure, 1x GRX might be great - but releasing it later means its going to rub up against the SRAM XPLR refresh later this year. Seems like Shimano is just consistently flat footed these days. Whats going on over there?
Instructions unclear, One finger salute STOPS bogan road users? Who knew! 🙂 For what it's worth, I love my 1x12speed GRX and often wonder why I continue with 2x on my roadie. It's so fuss free and shifts so well would Di2 just be overkill?
Front shift NEXT requires you to update firmware through a wired connection 🤦🏼♂️ why can’t Shimano make the updates wireless (as they originally said future shifter updates would be) instead of it making it the pain in the rear
Yep. See my Instagram. I’ve just done it tonight.
2X forever 😀!
Noooooo! 🤣
Hell yeah brother. Efficiency for the win!
@@gplama 😲
@@axuh382 🥰
Neat di2 update but wired update only?? Wth I don't have a spare di2 cable laying around and purchasing an extra one just for the sake of the update is so stupid but good $$$ for shimano.... Going to a bike store will probably cost the same as buying a cable...
Correct.
Since you hold a negative opinion of Shimano power meters 😉... What power meter would you recommend for someone's first power meter?
There’s a lot of good options out there. It depends on what type of meter you’re after and what’s compatible with your bike. Quarq, Power2Max, anything from Favero, the Magene P505 series. All meters that test well.
Pedal based one follows you across bikes. I've used my Garmin vector 2 (get a favero assioma) on at least 6 different bikes, probably more. It's cheaper, it's consistent because it's the same power meter, if you travel somewhere and rent a bike, you travel with your pedals. It's a great format.
You have to wonder about the stupidity of Shimano allowing SRAM to eat their lunch in the gravel sphere by still not offering a decent 1x gear range with electronic shifting. Kudos to The Bike Sauce guy who gave me a 100% Shimano mod for an 11sp 1x Di2 setup with a 51-11 cassette so I don't mind waiting a while longer, but I can understand why many will jump ship.
The old 11sp 1x had the smallest range of practically any groupset available! 330% or something. No low gear, no high gear. Pretty niche. This new 2x is also redundant, go for 105, has the same range, is no heavier, nicer hoods and way cheaper.
I’d argue the grx di2 hoods are actually much better. Ergonomically first, they are also quite grippy with a rubbery feel and they have a the button on the inside which is nice to interact with your head unit. GRX di2 also has a clutch which is nice for gravel.
But the point of GRX is it can take wider tires. Maybe it’s niche but that’s the whole point of the range otherwise functionally it’s pretty much the same.
Super obvious reason why no 1x yet. Because they have not released 12 speed di2 MTB yet. Eventual Grx di2 rear derailleur will just be a rebranded XT di2 mech. Its not part of rhe road family of products.
Imagine a world where they'd come out and say that themselves. For them to be up front and honest with people who want to buy their products. However here we are.
@@gplama imagine a world where shimano didnt decide to make 10+ speed road and MTB components incompatible with each other. Lets be fair, No one would ever want to use drop bar offroad - crazy!!!! Imagine a world where they didn't operate in complete silos churning out ever more SKU's instead of repurposing and collaborating between road and offroad development.
shame that 1 button change isnt coming to 11 speed
Agreed. I wonder if they’ll implement it with enough demand?
@@gplama are we talking about shimano or a reasonable company?
@@danielwolman I mean it's a business. Why put effort in for no gain when they want you to upgrade. There was no promise of an upgrade when you made the purchase on that group set that was released 6 years ago.
@@gplamathere's no way you typed that with a straight face 😅
Starting with 2x, the best-selling setup, makes business sense. Add lack of 1x on initial releases to the list of benefits of 2x! (Pause to put on my flame proof big boy pants for the haters!)
Besides, you 1x types don't need -- by definition, don't prioritize, fine gear increments. So you all should be happy sticking with 11spd setups for a bit longer.
To me, releasing what's ready now, incrementally, instead of waiting to release two separate products at once is beneficial.
Calling this a "huge miss" is just too glass half empty imho and in fact makes no business sense. Why should Shimano wait to start selling something that's ready for market?
This thinking both underestimates the time and engineering hours required to produce a bomb-proof groupset variant while assuming engineering staff levels aren't limited to keep a manufacturer like Shimano operating in the black.
There's so much here to enjoy and I'm sure they'll release a 1x when the engineers give it a thumbs-up for prime time -- perhaps this summer.
100% agree with power meter quip though. I think Shimano should re-allocate those resources elsewhere (maybe to 1x dev!)
I love my Assioma pedals and would never settle for one in the crank again - by any mfgr. Pedals are easier to switch out and come at a better price point.
😂 2x only is just weird, especially in gravel..
And good luck on your continued efforts to ingratiate yourself to Shimano 😂
I assume the demand is there from frame builders/companies to push 2x. I’m all for offering it, but not forgetting 1x in the process. 12spd GRX mechanical had both. That’s inconsistent. Then again… so is their pow…..never mind. 👌🏼
@@gplama🤣
At this point just give us a 3by if you won't give up a 1by.
The upturn on the hoods is too sharp and pronounced from my experience.
You really must be on Shimano’s sh!t list…check out Cade Media from England…they got a 2x Di2 to try out and an answer about the 1x. Thanks for the videos!
Of course they did.
Just buy Sram
Shimano messes up AGAIN. First, no 1x option. Second, it's fully electronic/wireless. No mechanical option, yet.
Out of interest why do you want full wireless. Unless you are a bike mechanic it's worse in every way. The mechanical option already exists. If you really want 1x, unplug the front mech
@@TrickyTree84 The problem is that electronic becomes almost useless when it breaks. Road is fine, but gravel presents some interesting challenges. As to why I would want 1x is there are less chain drop issues (I gave the old SRAM AXS and have dropped the chain while working on the bike on a stand). Almost everyone who does off-road bicycling is on 1x. As to mechanical, you can limp home and adjust gears without much faff.
No mechanical option?? How about 3 options for GRX 12 speed including two 1bys. And according to Shimano, 1by Di2 will be coming …
@@jamesmckenzie3532 I don't see your point. You don't like semi wireless, but you want mechanical. You don't like chain drops (SRAM is awful for it). You want 1x. Well 12 speed 1x, mechanical GRX exists already and has for months
GRX mechanical 1x exists already
Why so salty? I get the pm is crap and they’re missing big by not launching with 1x options but this comes across a bit personal. Just my 2c. Still love your content Shane!
When shimano is giving other youtubers with 1/4 or 1/10 of the followers advance access to the hardware? When you look around it seems suspicious from the outside. From the outside, it sure looks like a blacklist.
I love their gear. I have millions of views on here showcasing their products. Salty? Absolutely. The cost of honest reviews and voicing an opinion as an end user. On the flip side SRAM offered up a bike with the new RED for months prior to launch, along with access to more information than I could use. Two similar companies. Two similar releases. Two very different scenarios.
It's so petty of Shimano, it's almost funny.
