Someday I would love to experience Irish culture for myself. Someday I will visit your beautiful green island with its wonderful people. Greetings from Germany, Susanne
Oh to witness a life performance, I'd give a lot! In the meantime, I'm sending you one of my chanties; it's yours if you want to put music to it. Killadoon Mine I was born of Killadoon, as a child I gazed from cliffs to sea, Deep and green and ever wild, The world ‘yond called to me. Weaned on whiskey, peat and oats Before I’d learned to crawl, Then sailed the seas on foreign boats, Traveled far on a fisherman’s trawl. When spring appeared, adventure neared, So over the waves I set, My sextant clear, a new frontier, I sailed without regret. Maroc amazed, Marseilles be praised, Sardinia fed me well, Egyptian camels I rode in the haze Of the ruins at Abu Simbel. But Away I’ve been for a very long time, The greater part of a life, And desired return to Killadoon mine, To marry myself a wife. Home drew near, my heart aflame, Passion still stoked by youth, Enough of travel, fortune and fame, I’d discovered a simple truth. All that I longed for was under my nose, Family, friends, my love, To whom I gave a single red rose, One night under stars above. My girl of green isle, a wedding we had, A Killadoon Ceilidh we danced, Sixteen-year whiskey, a feather bed, On Killadoon my wildest romance.
Although My Father was a great Musician, none of his Talents came to Me (unfortunately). Although My Father did frequently claim that I was excellent at ‘playing the fiddle’.

Killadoon Mine
I was born of Killadoon, as a child
I gazed from cliffs to sea,
Deep and green and ever wild,
The world ‘yond called to me.
Weaned on whiskey, peat and oats
Before I’d learned to crawl,
Then sailed the seas on foreign boats,
Traveled far on a fisherman’s trawl.
When spring appeared, adventure neared,
So over the waves I set,
My sextant clear, a new frontier,
I sailed without regret.
Maroc amazed, Marseilles be praised,
Sardinia fed me well,
Egyptian camels I rode in the haze
Of the ruins at Abu Simbel. But
Away I’ve been for a very long time,
The greater part of a life,
And desired return to Killadoon mine,
To marry myself a wife.
Home drew near, my heart aflame,
Passion still stoked by youth,
Enough of travel, fortune and fame,
I’d discovered a simple truth.
All that I longed for was under my nose,
Family, friends, my love,
To whom I gave a single red rose,
One night under stars above.
My girl of green isle, a wedding we had,
A Killadoon Ceilidh we danced,
Sixteen-year whiskey, a feather bed,
On Killadoon my wildest romance.
