Those of us in the middle are tired of being hijacked and vilified by a group of BULLIES. As an actual 90s kid (born in 1983, not a "90s kid" who was born in 1999), I grew up with lots of diversity in school, in the neighborhood, in the TV shows, in the movies, and in the books I read. I was WAY better off before these bullies decided to "fix" a problem that hadn't existed since before I was born.

I blame a decline in the quality of comedy, music and films (or culture) in general. Before, there was a sort of filter, or structure, true, not everyone benefited but for things to succeed, there had to be quality. Nowadays, the same structure has gone and people don't pursue quality: music can be manufactured with the right people, comedy is basically something that ALL people think they can do (seriously in the UK, some MD/GP's think they are comedians doing stand up when they should be treating patients) since "jokes" are just real life talks and films...well, even if they flop, they don't seem to care until Maverick recently it seems.

Feedback is just healthy to any creative media. For yeah saying something sucks is useless but so is saying this is good. For these who are willing to give in depth with their feed back. Can be worth their weight in gold. For letting you know your strengths and weaknesses. For this whole idea of only give positive feed back. Just leads to someone not knowing where they need to improve. Which can have negative results in the end, by having the writer fail to understand what truly work and what didn't with their story. Leading to them creating less desirable works, rather than slowly improving over time.

Implying that all media outlets don't lie? The only reason why people give CNN more scrutiny than others is because Trump was pissed off that Jeff Zucker, whom he'd had an amicable relationship with in the past, refused to give him favorable coverage. They really aren't any harder on him than MSNBC (I'd actually argue that they're harsher toward him), he just felt betrayed and turned his base onto them which lead to increased scrutiny when they did lie about news stories, even though all news networks do it. Calling CNN "too left-wing" is a joke anyway; they're total establishment shills, just like all the other networks.

@@jaymethysell5111 apologies for such a long comment to all involved, and mean this in no way to be percieved as condescending or disrespectful in any way. But I must protest to this comment.
I don't understand how star trek is a Socialist Utopia. In each series there exists private enterprize, there is private property, and the Federation itself is a representative republic wherein each planet maintains a degree of sovereignty and self determination over its affairs (Something that is not possible in a Socialist state). If it's supposed to be "Socialist", then I'm afraid Gene, a supposed Marxist, didn't understand what the term meant or what Marx was advocating using socialism for. There is no centrally planned economy that is explicitly referenced or shown, and in various instances federation peoples barter with eachother for goods. What is represented via the shows (including TOS), is a post scarce Liberal utopia. Liberalism is Capitalist, but since scarcity has been eliminated via technological advancement, you have a utopia wherein most all wants can readily be fulfilled and people produce things without the need to do so. Socialism is the collective control of the means of production for the good of the whole. Or, in other words, a collective body- such as the state, or the public sector, controlling the economy for its own well being. The state being the overarching public collective in star trek (The Federation). For star trek to be Socialist, the majority of the economy would have to be centralized under the Federation's direct authority. Furthermore, Marxism or Communism, Gene supposedly being an admitted Marxist, dictates the abolition of private property entirely, and a sign of the eventually utopia he prophesies is that the socialist state will give way, as it will no longer be neccesary. The Federation is a state. Star Trek certainly isn't Marxist or Communist as personal belonging and private housing are represented. Picard's wine isn't being seized by the Federation, Kirk has to use women as a currency to barter with miners for Dilithium (lol a hilarious episode, and he would not have to do that in a socialist system as the dilithium would already be property of the federation), and I don't think Sisko's dad's restaraut is property of the Federation either. Sisko's second wife is running her own private shipping firm. The Federation would likely have social programs, and the education and medicine are probably heavily subsidized by the state perhaps being socialized, however that hardly makes the society Socialist. Starfleet is a military organization, and is as such socialized. However Starfleet is just the exploratory and defensive arm of a far greater society. On the star ship Enterprise, the crew are participating in a socialist system, but this is true for the real life crew of the real life enterprise. An enlistee is selling themselves to the state for a period of time, during which the state owns them, their labor, and the product of that labor. But that's not how life works for American civilians, and this is also true of the Federation. If anyone is curious what socialism is like, join the military, you'll be totally socialized while your serving, at least while on duty.

If current trend continue the Amish will be the majority of the US population by 2220 and Mormons will be a huge chunk of the US population in the early 2100's thanks to sky high birth rates, same in Canada and growing like crazy in Latin America as well thanks to sky high birthrates while everyone else has crashing birthrates.

CNN's brand is so damaged it will take years to get it back, if they ever do.
Pre enterprises star trek was pretty based in a lot of areas. Sure there were "left" leaning episodes but there were "right" leaning episode too. Even voyager tackled topics like capital punishment and false rap* accusations in a very intelligent and nuanced way.
I can't stand reality TV, if I wanted to watch reality I'd just live my life which is much more interesting then fake low budget "reality" tv.

One of the easiest ways to bring CNN back to profitability:
    1. Add CNN as a free news channel on Amazon Prime and other streaming devices. You can't fast forward through the commercials, so CNN will make money from people watching the commercials.
    2. Bring CNN back to their Headnews format, where there were dedicated segments in each 30 minutes for national news, weather, sports, etc.

Big issue I take on all of this is, the networks waited 10 years too late to change course. With the damage they've done, I may never return to cable television. It doesn't make any sense to me. They knew for sometime that their ratings were awful, and they refused to turn back. They were content to force their programming onto us regardless. And their actions permeated every other form of entertainment!

  • @martianwoodpecker

You raise such a good point about how much content already exists, much of it far superior to what's being made today. With the tens of thousands of movies and TV shows that already exist, Hollywood could vanish tomorrow and I could live the rest of my life watching a new movie or show every day and not come close to scratching the surface of what's out there.

It is a good point. A lot of streaming sites push content that was made only in the last couple years, but if you’re willing to dig even a little there is metric tons of content, of all kinds, to enjoy. I check to see if it was made before 2018 in general, but older is better, with few exceptions.

I don’t want to watch a trailer for a show, movie, game etc and have the first question be is it woke, what political message are they pushing and so on I would love for things to go back to center. Also I do enjoy when y’all do these rant videos from time to time; just saying what you think w/ no F’s to give

    • @JoRoq1
      @JoRoq1 2 года назад +2

I had a discussion on this idea with a friend just yesterday. I’m politically conservative, and I’m aware that Hollywood is dominantly leftist/progressive. I can disagree with the politics and worldview of a show but still enjoy it if it has quality storytelling and good characters, without any overblown preaching.
For example, V For Vendetta. I enjoy that movie, and generally watch it once a year (on my birthday, Nov 5). I disagree with the worldview of that story, how it portrays certain views and beliefs. But the quality of the production, a great story and compelling characters still make it enjoyable.
How can I do this? Because I understand that I’m being invited into someone else’s world. The creator’s views will control how that world works. There was a interview years ago with author Tom Clancy (Hunt For Red October, etc.) where he was asked why conservative ideals and policies always won the day in his stories. His response was “Because they are my stories.”

@@JoRoq1 I’m center right and I agree with what you say. I love V for Vendetta and other stories like it. However now a days stories aren’t being told the same way anymore. Instead Hollywood beats one over the head with “the message” and if one raises any objections then they get demonized. One can tell whatever story they want and I can say I either love it or hate it but saying I’m homophobic, racist, nazi etc for my beliefs for my likes is ridicules.

Just a bit of correction on the point of tv shows from 60s and 70 from CBS. During the 60s they has plenty of rural based shows which were all canceled in the event called the Rural Purge in the 70s. They cancelled Beverly Hillbillies, Green Acres, Petticoat Junction, Family Affair and Hogan's Heroes which they replaced with more urban and edgier shows like All in the Family. The one curious thing that this event even made it to Congress and the President Nixon as an unwelcome development.

Politics is ephemeral, and all the bullies who enjoyed political protection see their wings burned when politics change. And those who were in darkops will be loose ends for their masters and chased by their enemies. So if there is a real shift, bullies should be very concerned for their own past actions. If it is not a real shift, it is just virtue signaling.
