It is bad, but spending more money on a project that will fail after you realized that might be worse. Yeah, they should not have started it in the first place but if you have a game in the works that you figure out will fail, you want to pull the plug directly unless it is something you can fix without a large increase to the budget. When games fail today, the really fail. Actually completing your game that stinks in alpha will likely cost you more then you would loose from just canning it instead.
Cuing Queen's "Another One Bites the Dust." for this. At least Netflix was smart enough to have done this before it actually made any games that may have failed. PS, welcome back Kneon. Hope you're feeling better.
Triple A games were so big, people thought they could either say a message or hide from view to get free money from a massive corporation. When everyone is doing it, then no one is making the games good.
I GUARANTEE that they paid HUNDREDS of THOUSANDS (if not millions) to "consulting firms" (like SBI) before cutting off the money hose. It was always an absolute con. Zero advertisement, zero products, but somehow it was there all along...
Hope you keep getting better. I didn't even know Netflix had a gaming studio. With the virtual collapse of the AAA gaming, it's probably for the best for Netflix to pull the plug before even trying.
Like what happened with the Game Freak leaks, no video game player supports digital clouds when talking video games. Streaming services will censor and/or remove content, and digital clouds can be hacked. Offline is rather long-lasting and allowing ownership.
I don’t think Nintendo will allow gamefreak to fail long term. If anything, we will likely get some good to great games for next year and next gen at least.
As a gamer for pretty much my whole life, I've pretty much given up on gaming entirely. Something huge has to happen before I even consider giving it another chance.
Games need a true identity to work, it's why Nintendo's got such a death grip on their mascots. Sega began with Sonic to be a rival to Mario with an attitude, and he's still beloved. Netflix does whatever with everything but it's never about fun or quality stories but whatever it can pump out.
Yeah, maybe it was even healthier than Kneon for the past days. . . Then they put it behind the barn because maybe, just maybe, it wasn't well. . . Financially and mentally.
That's weird of them to even mention it when NO one knew they had such a studio in the first place. Considering the "progressive" aspect of Netflix though, that's probably for the best.
Glad you are getting better dude, don't push your voice too hard. I did that when I had a very bad lung and throat infection . At the time I was doing five performances in three days of Christmas Carol. I got sick two weeks before the curtain raised , I could not hold any food down. My Mum wanted me to go to the Quacks, but I had told her no, as I did not want to pull out of the show, so I promised that the day after we finished I'd go. Turns out my need to put others ahead of me bit me in my arse. Doctor said I made it worse and I was on antibiotics for weeks. However I was coughing and breaking into coughing fits after I did anything strenuous for months, these fits would be so bad, they would cause me to be sick. In fact, I was not 100% again until just after my Birthday , a year after I joined the acting group and about 9 months after I first got sick. So rest well Boss.
There was supposed to be a Netflix Stranger Things big game (which I believe was intended to be a joint production with Telltale prior to the, going bankrupt). I wonder what happened to it
I think Netflix could make a lot of money if they would start selling DVDs again. For a monthly subscription you could watch anything, just like now, but if you really like something, you could pay extra to get it on physical media. I think the cost of a 1 month subscription should be fine for a movie, a series would be a bit harder to price, but 2 months for 12 episodes, or 1 month per disc seems reasonable. Someone should probably tell them that there is still a lot of money in physical media.
Been seeing the games link in Netflix app.. but I start up Netflix to watch something not to play something... it is like trying to ask if you would like to buy some medicine when you walk into a steak restaurant... does not make sense at all...
I had a whole bunch of questions out of curiosity but since I see that they haven't made any games that makes it make a lot more sense. Main curiosity being I didn't know that they even had a studio, just seems weird for Netflix. The kind of studio that would be making safe slop.
netflix had a AAA game studio? oh they just made mobile games and mobile ports. so it's barely CCC let alone being anywhere close to A. good riddance to bad garbage.
Now I’m wondering if Netflix made ANYTHING…what garbage would’ve come out of it. Imagine the game platform they would’ve made if they went THAT direction. It would’ve made the Amiga CD32 look functional.
Kneon is alive🤩🤩 glad you're getting better. I was dealing with a cold since last week but i imagine you had something worse. Glad you're getting better
Last interview question: how many times do you make Tweet on X per day, and how many of them can be considered man hating or antireligion? How gay is the content?
@DontKnowDontCare6.9 So do I tell them I haven't used Twitter in like five years and never read it? Every time I get a new phone or reset an old one, someone Twitter never gets reinstalled and eventually I forget it exists. Have yet to have one negative from this practice.
Yay!! Neon is better! When you get a chance, please spoil Geeky. She was dropping videos, dropping knowledge, and reading every one the riot act. Y'all are definitely an adorable duo.
Welcome Back Kneon! Good to see you feeling better. Although, you can save your voice. Why dont you use something like the Stephen Hawking voice until your voice gets better?
They rejected my application awhile back, so I started my own studio. This feels a bit like running into that kid who said you'd never amount to anything and finding out their life went off the rails.
Kneon, good to hear from you, but take your time and get rest, get recovered. Let Geeky Sparkles know we appreciate her stepping in. We'll be here when you get back.
Games like nobody saves the world, goat simulator 2 and Sea of stars. Are helping to to bring back the wild West of gaming. Where nobody was afraid to get creative and wacky. Where It wasn't all about selling billions of copies but about having fun and telling meaningful and compelling narrative.
For a second, I thought squidking was pulling our leg, (geekysparkles was doing something similar a few videos ago.) Glad you're back kneon hope you get better soon.
Not surprised. Cloud gaming never took off despite all of these companies claiming it was "the future". However cloud gaming will never be the future due to one single factor. ISPs.
the biggest difference between gaming and Hollywood is that it is close to the same quality. indie competition is abundant It's much harder for indie movies to get traction.
That sucks, there are a few franchises that I'd be interested seeing a game for. I mean, a bunch of them aren't even really depending on Netflix as they're just the distributor, so...
Back when it was mail service I used to opt for games besides movies to be mailed to me cause there was a game cube and Ps1 in the house (there was a debate who it belong to with all the people comining in and out of the house) There was also a NES who main Game was Dragon Warrior
It's always hilarious to see companies that have nothing to do with gaming see the insane profits games can make, try to jump into the bandwagon, and then realize that wait making games actually requires a lot of time and commitment and isn't some get rich quick scheme.
Wait, wait...hold on...Netflix had a gaming studio?!
That's why it shut down. No one knew about it.
When you login to Netflix, the first section you see is the gaming catalogue
I'm confused about this too
A woke one
You beat me to it.
Sounds about right. Considering how often they cancel shows, they probably canceled a lot of games that couldn't make it passed the idea department..
I bet they still paid thousands to "consulting firms" like SBI.
Why pay consulting firms to gain DEI credits. When you could have one inhouse.
And nothing of value was lost
Sounds like the same vibe as "And no one ate dinner that night."
Or "Firefox has encountered a problem with windows". You'll take your crash and like it buddy.😂
This time literally cause they didn't even get a chance to make a game.
@@Autobotmatt428 So instead of saying AAA studio you say triple minus?
Now why did Netflix bother making a game studio from the 1st place? What a waste
Because Fortnite alone makes more money than every show they have ever made combined.
Think it a AAA mobile game studio
To launder money of course. Where have you been. Its the modus operandi of the movie and game industries these past decade.
But how can you launder money from a creative company when they didn't create a single thing?
@@DontKnowDontCare6.9
Shutting down without even releasing a single game. That is hilarious and pathetic.
Hope you get better soon Kneon

We bought this gaming studio and paid all these people... to do exactly nothing.
What is this money laundering?
It would be funny if they werey contracting with a SBI-like company, and decided to cut their losses after running the numbers.
They got paid. The money got hosed out. That's what they did all this time.
Above-average triple A company behavior.
@@kevo300Hanlon's Razor is always in effect.
Hey, Kneon has returned!!!
I bet these AAA studios hate the fact that we can just purchase and play older games without a lousy subscription.
Glad to see that you're alive
Geeky is actually just getting better at the voice over.
In my head cannon, he'd been 'disappeared' by Geeky.
The only reason Netflix would shut it down is if it had the same "problems" Dustborn, Concord, and the other similarly ill fated games had.
High probability of that, yes.
It sure did. That plus other problems and no hit on the horizon.
Cuing Queen's "Another One Bites the Dust." for this. At least Netflix was smart enough to have done this before it actually made any games that may have failed.
PS, welcome back Kneon. Hope you're feeling better.
I COMPLETELY forgot they had SUPPOSEDLY a gaming studio, that’s how easy it came and left out of my mind 😂 guess it was best to never remember
And………….wait for it…
Nothing of value was lost.

Good to see kneon alive and getting better. On another note, anybody think it's kinda weird that Google's monopoly conviction has gone quite?
Biggest take away from this was that there was a netflix gaming studio
companies just CANNOT stick to what they know.
I have the feeling they saw Amazon's gaming studio and how bad they are doing, and Netflix thought: "Hold my beer."
They probably saw what they had in development and realized that SH!T wont sell. Good for them
Hope you keep getting better.
I didn't even know Netflix had a gaming studio. With the virtual collapse of the AAA gaming, it's probably for the best for Netflix to pull the plug before even trying.
Netflix had a game studio???
IF they even made a game it probably be about Cuties. Or a live action anime game. lol.
There's already a "Stranger Things" game, it came out around season two, but as a small Pixel art one licensed to another studio.

Maybe if Netflix wants more recognition, they should release their movies theatrically rather than on streaming.
Yes.
Why'd they made a gaming studio for Netflix?
because once a publicly traded company reaches market saturation, it goes bat shit insane
Because they went in expecting to make the next Fortnite.
Good on them for pulling out before they made another Concord instead, I guess.

KNEON DIDN'T DIE!! REJOICE!!! 🥳
Yeah he's back!
Some exec looked at the recent failures like Concord et al, and at the backlash to AC:Shadows/DA:Veilguard, and pulled the plug.
What actually happened: oh $#!+, Sony already did it and so did Microsoft. If we released a multimillion flop theyll know we're just laundering money.
Hope you get better soon Kneon.
Welcome back, Kneon!
We missed you, buddy!
Netflix probably hired too many "DEI" instead of talent.., no wonder it fell apart..
Wait what??? Since when did they have a gaming studio????
Glad you're feeling a little better neon

It's almost as though games should be made by people/companies who actually care about games. Crazy talk, I know.
Who the hell even plays via Netflix???
I don't believe this was ever gonna go anywhere anyway. Not shocking it shut down without actually doing anything.
Not surprising, considering how long game development takes and how fast Netflix cancels things.

Considering the Netflix adaptation meme... it was probably woke crap and this is for the best.
Current technology can't sustain Cloud Gaming and make it stable, especially the internet.
Welcome back, Netflix did a smart move
Well the way AAA gaming is doing of late, not making any games may have saved them millions, if not hundreds of millions of dollars
"graphics over gameplay" AGREED
The world is not ready for cloud gaming. At least for another 10 years.
Cloud gaming will never work. You either go for pc, or get physical games. That’s about it.
Somebody need to tell Microsoft and Sony that because they haven't got the memo yet
Not even then
What even is cloud gaming?
It will be ready when we can internet speed of 10,000 mpbs for $50 a month.😅
Welcome Back Kneon! Good to see you feeling better. Although, you can save your voice. Why dont you use something like the Stephen Hawking voice until your voice gets better?

But still please be well
No wonder some Netflix show IPs went back to their respective buyers like LOL and BHVR
Please don't quit. I'm a gamer And appreciate your view point. Neon.

Wow....I seriously did not know they had a gaming studio
Wow! You sound rough. Your wife was filling in fine while you out. Maybe take a few more days and get fully recovered.
Glad you're getting Kneon.
Nice to have you back.

Glad you're feeling better Neon!
