We did loose some footage where we changed the engine oil and filter. NOTE: Anytime a carburetor is leaking like this one the oil and filter should be changed because there is probably fuel in the crankcase. We also replaced the fuel filter and added an inline shut off valve.
This diagnosis will apply to many riding mowers like Craftsman, Scag, Ariens, Gravely, Poulan Pro, Cub Cadet and many more. We check the battery voltage, load test the battery and hook up a jumper box to it. It just clicks and attempts to spin over but will not. We will show you why. You will also watch us open up the jets on a Nikki carburetor and show you an easy way to remove it.
Good pointer on the jet I have had that surge problems with aftermarket carburetors wasn’t aware of the jet possibly being restrictive because of the hole size assumed they were all built to spec but I just learned to double check to be sure thanks
I bought a used 2012 Ariens rider...same problem, 1st pulled the dip stick... Crankcase showed way over full and smell of gas.
Might want to change the oil after the cylinder filled with gas.
Silly boy. The Rooster I used to watch went out to people's houses infested by bee swarms and got him a new bee colony and helped the homeowner too. Of course he had to do some carpentry work to put the house back together. Down around New Orleans. Another feller he competed with ran a honey selling operation from a Catholic Rectory. Busy boys.

I've got no fuel coming out of the sparkplug. Mine will turn over if it's in the right spot but then stops. I adjusted the valves but they really weren't that bad. Without the sparkpug in it turns over freely.
When i manually turn the flywheel past the "sticky" part i hear air pushing out. Is there a direction you can point me?
Sounds like bad cam shaft. Watch my video on that. Hope it helps
I have a John deer 188lx I put a new carburetor fuel pump new plugs new coils and it starts and dies I bought new springs for the carburetor as well can u do a video on this I need help
Remove the fuel line from the carburetor and crank the engine over. Is it spurting out fuel? If not possible fuel line deterioration on the inside. Also remove the fuel line from the fuel pump that comes from the tank, remove gas cap and blow through it. You should hear it bubbling. If it is pumping fuel to the carburetor, then we will look towards the antibackfire solenoid. Does it click when key is turned on? If not check for power and ground at the terminal. Hope this helps.

My 19.5 B&S Craftsman has the same issues ... will not crank to get it to start ... but plug is a sweet light brown ... and no fuel issue ... another site said the same thing about compression release ... tried his method of removing air filter and covering with hand to prevent air from entering ... no luck. Any ideas greatly appreciated !!!
I'm curious if there are any chemicals that help prevent all this stickaging? Like marval mystery oil or yamalube?

The jumper box is a no no.
How to fix a Briggs and Stratton? that's easy you buy a Kohler 7000 series or Kohler command commercial pro engines and your problem is solved
In some cases the carburetor is not the issue I have found that the auto backfire solenoid over time the spring weakens to age and when this happens it works but it doesn't close the emulsion tube completely and it let's gas run into the crankcase therefore also runs into the piston head and will flush the rings causing the motor to smoke even after taking the sparkplug out and relieving the gas in the head the gas and oil has naturally mixed and needs to be changed but changing this solenoid sometimes is the culprit in this situation

I bought a couple of the knock off carburettors of amazon and they were of excellent copy's so you have to take your chances on the build quality I will say they had Japan stamps on them but they can be faked but I will say they worked well on the 12.5 briggs it was fitted to cheers all from the 🇬🇧
