Plumbing in Australia astonishes me. There are pipes everywhere all over the properties that you work on. Where I live, sewer goes out to the street. One pipe that is all. Stormwater stays on the surface and runs out towards the street to be collected by the government's storm drains. In my particular State, collecting or interfering with the flow of stormwater is a punishable offense. We're not even allowed to collect rainwater for drinking. Apparently the rain is owned by the government because, it passes through my nation's airspace before it hits the ground, thus giving ownership of the rain to the government
Where I live in Germany it's exactly the opposite, if your storm water is running to the street you are paying an extra fee. The city encourages you to store and use the rainwater, let it seep in the ground or release it only slowly so they don't have to deal with large amounts of water when a thunderstorm hits.
@@matthiasplus6691 that sounds like a better setup than we have here. Around here a slight Mist coming out of the sky causes the streets to flood and then those flooded streets drain into our sewers overwhelming the sewage system. I live in northeastern America. In an area that began settling in the 1400s. Some of our sewer systems out here date back to the early 1700s. And they don't do anything to upgrade the system because an entire city was built on top of the original system. Today, three hundred years later, the system is easily overwhelmed by precipitation that falls anywhere in with the state. Even though our stormwater and sewage systems are two completely separate and isolated systems, due to the poor condition of the storm drain system, streets easily flood during the rain and that rain water Finds Its way into the sewer, which was already overwhelmed before the addition of stormwater. I live near an industrialized area, so to make matters even worse, there are many many dams along the local Rivers big and small. So because our storm drain system is completely overwhelmed, the water drains into the local rivers and waterways, but the dams that were installed 150 years ago for our Industries, prevents that water from escaping, causing flooding all over the place almost every single time it rains. But will they get rid of these dams which are no longer in use? Of course not, because entire communities were built Downstream from these dams. So they leave them in place. The more the development of the state continues, the worse and worse the problem gets. Eventually, all this water it's going to burst through its decrepit and degrading barriers, and will wash away the capital city of my state.
