It’s definitely just rain, get a cratch cover and your be sorted! Welcome to the Boaty world 👍
Yeah we’re pretty sure it is, just with all the problems we’ve had it’s hard to think otherwise sometimes, we need a Cratch cover desperately thanks James
I love watching your channel guys, by far one of the best boat Chanel’s. I’m looking forward to you guys actually getting on the move.
You will get there in the end.
Add some edible food colouring into your water tank. You could also block-up your well deck scuppers and flood the well deck with fresh water, adding a different coloured dye to that. Then go and comfort Becca for a couple of days before going back to check your bilges.
the food colour idea is a great shout, we've stumbled upon that before but have yet to try it, if there was ever a time, Thanks Terry Becca will be back soon to save us all from the evil leak
Must Be a old welsh Canal boat , comes with leaks lol . jokes. Best of luck getting it sorted guys between yourselves and Capt Maverick
will get there, as long as we don't sink were happy, haha thanks :)
Great to watch all your videos and so nice to see a great couple having fun and enjoying life, i think when its completed, the boat will be great
Thank you, eventually it will be a cracking life style
Great videos, genuinely nice couple with an honest look at doing up a narrowboat.Keep up the good work.
Aww that’s sweet thanks so much, just trying to stay as positive as possible
Hi Chris, sorry to hear about the leak again. Suggest that it is rain water from the front uncovered bow section getting in through that bit that you said was not welded. Get a watering can with some food colouring in and pour it over that area and see it come into the bilge. Hope becks gets better soon.
Yes we do believe it probably is, the old survey showed the boat having a really good hull but there’s always that fear that it would be coming in from the river, the food colouring idea is amazing watch this space thank you
Hope you're feeling better soon Becks. Let's hope it's rain water coming in and it easily solved. Staying positive for you both xxxx
I do feel now it is rain water, it would make sense with all the rain we've had, thanks always Emma :)
Get well soon Becca.!!! great vlog
Thank you 😊
Hi Chris, Really sorry that your having more water issues. Maverick is a sheer Wonder-Man. Hope Becca gets better very quickly. Wishing you a great week. Take Care.
I’m very lucky to have the maverick on board, thanks so much bex will back very soon 🤞
Get well soon Becca. Hope the leak is sorted by the time you are fit and well again.
thank you, Becca will be back soon ready to complete the boats refit haha :)
@@TheNomadicCrobot I'm sure she's glad that you appear to have it all under control 😉.
I had a minor panic myself last week.. hadn’t been able to get to the boat for a few weeks as had a car troubles. When I did the cabin wall was mysteriously wet.. turns out water had built up and spilled over from the tonneau into the battery compartment on the stern deck and run down a badly sealed inlet for the power cables. You have to be made of eyes when you own a boat I am finding out!! I may be buying a depstech to aid my paranoia!..Your videos really help in sharing the boaty pain! Get well soon Bex.
oh god that sounds like a disaster, there are som many things to take in that can easily build up when forgotten about, everyone has a story, and most of them include water, at least were not alone, the depstceh is a great bit of kit :)
Be positive...when it rained , my shite fiat Panda leaked water so I saw it as a free shower or opportunity to do laundry !!...stay happy..wish you both well ..
thank you and sorry about your panda, we haven't sunk yet so im happy
@@TheNomadicCrobot oh it's ok...the rain also washed the rust. !!
Omg I feel for u. Just got it sorted. Hope it’s nothing serious. Fingers crossed. Hope Bex is feeling better real soon too.
This is boat life haaa pretty sure it’s just a bit of rain water… thanks so much , hopefully it’s nothing to bad
👍👌🇨🇦❤, run, don't walk away from this boat,
Hahaa neverrrr
Hope you feel better soon Becks
thank you I will pass the message on :)
Most probably rain water from blocked foredeck drains, but some boats do not have a bulkhead behind the thruster and as the tube never gets blacked or inspected that can be a source too over time.
yes we think it probably is now, thanks Chris
Good that you're back but sorry to see the return of the wet stuff. Fingers crossed its rain water and nothing more serious. Hope Becca gets well soon, although the ongoing "romance" with The Maverick is fun to watch. 🤣😂
We do now think it probably is rain water but there is still some sort of leak near the bow area… this boat life comes with a lot of challenges and we’re still not even on our way yet haha thanks Gary
Maverick needs his own Channel!
Absolutely
oh no, my heart goes out to you, hopefully you can get sorted soon xx
Thank your were pretty sure its just rain but you never no :)
Can’t believe the bad luck you two have had. Have missed your videos. So sorry Becs is feeling bad hope she is much better now. I to think it’s rain water. Hope you find out something and can get back on track with the build and you plans to cruise I know you never planned a refit show. Best wishes, Susan
we really have but it seams to become more and more clear that this is just part of the boaty packages...I mean we've pretty much had every problem under the sun without even moving on fully yet haha thanks Susan
I hope that Becks feels better soon. I also hope that you soon find the problem and get it sorted.
Thanks you for your kind words ❤️
Oh wishing Becca well 🥴🥰. Depstech music/advert just love it 🤣. You two are hilarious, the vlog just wouldn’t be the same without problems! Have to say the water looked like someone had got in and done a feral wee on the waterways 😂. Maverick finding love advert - dodgy hip, love of chicken, happy to carry planks, good with his hands and manages his tools well 😝Till next time……
Thanks so much, as soon as I saw the leak I thought...."well makes for an interesting vlog" its my way of staying sane with it all. owww a maverick advert...now were talking...leave it to me hehe :)
@@TheNomadicCrobot 😂🦹🏻♂️
Your be surprised how quickly the bow deck can fill up from rain and when it can't drain off..Becks Hope your feeling better
oh really wow...I am starting to think tis could be the Ian culprit, many thanks :)
Hi guys. We have had a similar issue with water leaking into the bilge. Just by chance I checked the water tanks last week and found 20ft of boat full of water. We checked the tanks, pipes, fittings and couldn't find anything wrong. Then I cleaned everything down dry and left cardboard under the pump. Which revealed a leak under the water pump. Pump replaced at the weekend and most of the water pumped out. Now its performing well with no leaks. Just a mess to clean up. I wish I could show you the photos but utube doesn't give me that option. 3,-4, inches of water from a leaking pump.
Oh god that sounds terrible, it’s quite the panic when you first discover it but every boat owner Iv spoken too has had to deal with water in the bait many many times, yes Becca found out leak just by chance too…maybe it would have been better not to find it haha it’s all very solvable just a huge messy job good luck with your adventure Kelvin
Dang! I hope you’re better Bex. What a complete bummer. Hopefully just rain water. xx
We’re thinking it much be water but you never no … time will tell … here we go again haha
time to call it a day with that boat
Nooooo all part of the boaty experience
Sending hugs, & get better wishes to Beck!!🌷🤗🤒🤧🤗🌷
Again, Stanley & Hardy, comics drama antics with each DIY episodes vlog ,of Chris & Maverick!! Hope the water source entry gets resolved soon Take care!!
thank you, haha it must be quite amusing watching a few people who are clueless on the way boats work :)
Top tip to rule out water tank put food colour in it like wise central heating
this is number one on our agenda, its not properly plumed in at the moment but this is a test that keeps coming up that we need to try, thanks
Hopefully it is rainwater, from experience at home the wind driving rain from a slightly different direction can find a leak. Get well soon Becks, the Maverick could do with help!😄
We need Bex back to give the maverick a hand haha we do believe it probably is rain water but you never no.. the “adventure” continues haaa
Sending positive happy vibes.
Thanks always Penney :)
You need to get that boat out mate🤣🤣
We really do haaa
Don’t have time to read all the comments so ignore if it’s already been said eh? I’m guessing that you have rain water coming in thru the top of the well deck via the poorly welded patch. Dry out the area beneath the well deck thoroughly, Block off both port and starboard scuppers ( the drains holey thingies) with rags and fill the well deck with an inch of water then crawl back underneath and have yerself a nice golden (or brown) shower as behold the leak exposeth itself! Cheaper than a survey if it works. If it doesn’t then scupper her, get drunk, and go buy a new one… Nah, keep smiling Chris, your sweat equity (ok Becks ‘n Maverick’s) will pay off when you’re cruising along happily able to fix just about anything that goes wrong this summer!
I think your right, and I think that's the first test were going to take, thanks for your great solution im going to try this in a little while, hopefully it is as its an easy fix really, that's it..all these new skills...by the time were cruising ill be a boaty genius haaa
Bow thruster tubes rot all the time buddy it's a common fault because the bow prop spinning wears away the metal tube. I really feel for you guys. Keep going rippers. Get well soon Becks. I'm in the same boat has Becks right now. Feel crap. Excuse the pun. I always worry about leaks.
oh that's interesting cheers Will, we are pretty convinced its rain water but was quite the shock when we first saw it, were thinking positive, makes for a interesting vlog haha, get well soon Will
Water is a cruel thing - it erodes mountains after all! Wow, you may be onto something with the thruster.
we do think its probably rain water, lets prey haha
Put some dry dye packs by the bow thruters then put a different color in water tank.. food safe ones ofcoursr
What a great idea thanks, we’ve been itching to try one of these techniques
@@TheNomadicCrobot yeah traced lots of leaks over the years. That is the low tech easy result one
My guess would be it’s coming in through that badly fitted plate in the bow. If the outlets are blocked you get a mini swimming pool forming in the bow. It the drips down into the front of the boat. If you want to test it get a hose and start it pouring into the bow. Monitor the underside of that patch.
yes were thinking that way too, it seams obvious, but also seams this is were the problem may have been all along, yes were going to try the hose theory now, a few people have said about it, many thanks Rick
In my opinion it is definitely rainwater from your well deck. You need to get a cratch cover .
yes we do need a cratch cover, many thanks Peter it more than likely is water from all the rain recently
I would think to get a water hose going to simulate rain, then see if it is coming in that way. I bet it's clogged irrigation (? ... I'm not a boat person) somewhere and rain water. If it was the hull, the water would continue to rush in, wouldn't it?
yes I think that's a great idea thank you, it is a small leak so no need for us to panic, its more than likely from the heavy rain, thanks for your comment and help
Check there’s a silicone seal around the front door frame and especially under the cill of the door frame, mine was leaking under the cill and collecting inside
thanks for this we will have to check , there seam to be endless ways for water to get in haha
Aw Becks hope you feel better soon, you didn't sound good. Don't worry Chris knows what he is doing with the boat lol.
haha..the boats in safe hands leave it to me haaa I have new power tools
@@TheNomadicCrobot just remember with great power (tools) comes great responsibility!
Boat stands for break out another thousand good luck
Spot on haha
test with a marble you'l know which way the water runs. Its probably coming from above, get an bucket with coloured water and try different places
thanks for your great suggestions, we do feel its coming from the bow area just because of the huge build up of water :)
So sorry for you guys. But you have the Maveric.
the maverick will save us
Get well soon Becks. The stern drainage holes seemed to be well blocked with debris, lets hope that what caused your new indoor water feature..... you'll soon be cruising the cut. Nice bum Maverick LOL
Thanks Andrea we could really do with her back on board doing all the hard bits I don't like doing haha only joking...kind...
Could testing the ph level of the water in the boat and ph testing the river water be a way to see if it’s river water getting in? Hopefully it’s rain that got in somehow and they way in can be found and sorted out,but like you say you need to get her lifted out, truly hope you can get your problems sorted out and the boat all fully renovated then you can start on your adventure my boatiful friends
hi Shane, we do think it probably is rain water, it would make sense with the weather we've had, we will get there and we have been doing great, the adventure is so close...minor setbacks...always haha
Understandable the well deck filling with water if the drain holes are blocked, but how has that got into the cabin bilges? Is there a bulkhead between the bow and the cabin?
there is a bulkhead, but maybe there's a small crack or hole, the leak coming through is tiny, we do believe it probably is all from the rain water now, many thanks
Where did you get your replacement glass from I need some windows for my boat.
The Maverick used a place called ‘Stevenage glass’ roughly £10 per sheet. Though we’re still waiting 😀
Luckily you cleaned where the rain water fills up the deck so now you have drainage, always important to keep those clear of leaves. But when you was scrapping away the rust I was worried that your base plate was a bit thinner. Survey Survey Survey all the way
survey is essential, and even more so now, but the lock were were situated is having work done till late may now so we couldn't get one even if we tried, will get there, thanks :)
Hi, hope you're both well. Just wondering when we're getting another video? I need a fix hahaha.
Thanks Michael, sorry we’ve been so busy, we’ve actually just managed to Russel the new episode up and have just uploaded it, they’ve been taking a bit longer but they have also all been a bit longer so hopefully that makes up for it a bit, thanks again
@@TheNomadicCrobot Hey, no problem at all. Just love watching them. Chris, you and your brother have a lot to answer for haha. He got me into RC and ebay and now I want a narrowboat haha.
Fantastic about the new vid, off to watch it now. All the best you guys, keep up the great work.
Hope you find the problem it you could always put food dye where you think it’s coming from then see if the water changes colour. Hope Becks feels better soon
yes were going to try that, we keep hearing of this crazy method, but it seams to work, sometimes the simplest ideas are the best, thanks :)
The bow thruster tube should be behind a sealed bulkhead so it the seals fail it does not flood the boat. You don't really need sissy tubes anyway.
sissy tubes haha the bloody thing is broken anyway but we doid want to get it fixed just for when we come to sell it, that's interesting about the bulkhead, many thanks
@@TheNomadicCrobot I would seriously consider when you get into dry Dock or hauled out onto the hard that you remove the tube and weld the Hull holes up. This then allows room for an Independent decent sized plastic or stainless steel water tank under the well deck especially if you are going to live aboard. The water pump can then be placed close to it.
@@TheNomadicCrobot also the area where I have my boat attract hordes of freshwater mussels and many with sissy tubes, find that the mussels find the tube a very secure environment in which to procreate stopping them from working anyway. Hope all is, well with becks take care
Could be multiple leaks. Windows can leak through behind the walls, The bow seems to be leaking through the inspection hatch (bad fit). Tissue paper could be used to identify where leaks are coming through. Cello tape tissue paper on the underside of the inspection hatch, this could be a cheap and quick easy way to identify a leak here. If you have just taken on some fuel or added weight to the back (or removed weight from the front) then this would cause water at the front to move to the rear where it is now noticed.
I think you could be right, originally he maverick found 3 areas, I think you could be right about the inspection hatch, its just been painted shut, I think that's the first thing I will be cancelling out, thanks for you great suggestions
I’m so sorry this has happened - I honestly think it’s just rain water that hasn’t been able to drain off the bow? It did look a bit rusty though? Get well soon Becs x
thanks so much, it probably is rain water, time to run a few tests, thanks for the support
If the bow thruster area is leaking - welding the hull openings will be cheaper than $1000 plus to replace/fix - or install a glass floor w/ gold fish swimming under
it really would, just the bloody thing welded shut, job done haha
Bow thruster tubes can have a cavitation holes punched in it.
that's exactly what I thought thanks David
@@TheNomadicCrobot
I know about this it happened to us. And if it were Not for an experienced boat yard marine welder glug glug glug
we had no choice but to remove the bow thruster and weld up closed the tube.
Am I right in thinking you don't have a water tight bulkhead between the bow thruster tube and the boat in place ?
If so then it's curtains and if I were you I would de commission the tube and weld it up.
To replace like for like £6K + ouch
Boating knowledge says you don't need a bow thruster and this is true you simply use your stern line to pull you out from the bank in windy conditions.
Good luck
You should rename the boat "The Leaking Lena!!! ....Robbie
Noooooo haha
@@TheNomadicCrobot You found where the leak is coming from...Bow thruster tube.
I’m hoping (and betting) on rainwater. If it is the bow thruster, you got a leaking seal to fix. Let’s hope that’s not it. Then again, as cold as it’s been, it could be a cracked plastic pipe. Looks like a lot of pipes that go no where in the boat down in the bilge.
Yea we think it probably is rain water, we’ve had so much recently, yea we have loads of pipes that don’t seem to be attached to anything, thanks so much Gregg always great to hear your suggestions
@@TheNomadicCrobot please Tell Becs we are praying for her good health, we love both of you and and so happy you include us in your experiences. Really miss Becs!!!!
I left my boat for four weeks and someone turn the automatic bilge pump’s off. Engine filled with 4” of water that then entered under the steps. Caught it just in time, again leaves and stuff blocked the run off from the ster
so water can build up quite quickly when your not thinking about it, so much to remember and take it, were pretty sure its rain water, now to prey it never rains again ha
Have you run it anywhere? Have you greased your stern-gland? Checked all your skin-fittings? Bilge pump in the engine swim?
Another thought - you guys had a bunch of windy storms - rain blowing up into mushroom vents, etc.?
no but we are booked in to get the stern gland repacked, as the seller told us it needed doing, it seams to be more coming from the bow of the boat and working its way down, but it could always be more than 1 leak, and yes we did have a lot of bad weather, thanks so much Janis :)
I love a marigold
Good lad 😂
if it's leaking me watching
haha I like your style....makes it far more interesting to watch ha
Did Rebecca leave for good. Check screw shaft .Or pipes Windows Smoke pipe.
so she will be back soon, she's had a tough few months, thanks for your great suggestions :)
I have seen the amount of damage blocked gutters can do to a building. Keeping those drain holes free from muck would be my first bit of advice. I would get the hose pipe out and spray the boat and see where the water can come in... simple, but it works....
oh really another comment did say that and I thought they were joking, many thanks :)
Time to re name to Fe2O3·nH2O-bat.
haaa brilliant...I had to google that to see what it meant :)
Just buy a flat or house. These things aren't made to be lived in. Best of luck to ya.
Haha no way...its far to much fun
THAT HOLE THAT YOU FOUND THAT WAS ON THE SIDE OF TH BOAT, HOW FAR IS IT ABOVE THE WATER LINE ,COULD BE IF A BOAT GO'S PAST IT COULD GO THROUGH THE HOLE FROM THE WASH FROM THE BOAT? OR IF YOU GET IT WINDY THE WAVES COULD BE WASHING THE WATER UP THE SIDE OF THE BOUT THROUGH THE HOLE ?//.
it isn't hight enough by what we have been told, but as boats don't really go past ours currently we doubt it would probably be from that, though its a possibility, many thanks Eric
why don't you re-name the boat Titanic 🤪
Nooooo haha
Can you not make like bulk heads across the boat to make seperate compartments ,,,instead of water running the length of the boat ,
Iv been told the idea is that any water collects up at the back of the boat were it will be automatically drained by a bilge pump
Get it out of water and pressure wash bow thruster area.
Great idea thanks 😃
Call it a day and get rid
Nooooo we won't quit.... just yet
Close up all the doors and windows and blast the boat with a hose pipe to see it any water gets in....
now there's an idea...and would make for a great vlog, thanks :)
You don't want to blast the boat with water as blasting with a powerwash will force water where naturally it will never get
Better ideal is to run a hose over windows, floor plates etc to try and replicate where heavy rain would get in. Best of luck and keep up the videos.
@@stevew9957 Who mentioned a power washer? I said hose pipe
@@davehopkin9502 I think the term 'blast' as opposed to something like 'spray' infers a high pressure.
"lots of water" are you sure? 1 mm deep, 1 sqm area = 1 L. So 10 mm rain gives you 10L water ... no problems, just sulutions!
haha I like your theory Rolf, always thinking of the positive ha :)
Never mind Becks, how's the dog doing 😜
unfortunately the dog (Cooper) has passed :( sorry for the bad news, its been a tough few weeks especially for Becca , so we haven't really brought it to attention , thanks Adam
@@TheNomadicCrobot I'm so sorry to hear cooper pass away. I lost mine josh about 5 years ago now (the dog) but he is always by my side. Keep your chin's up! And I do hope your feeling better soon ❤️
Stop over thinking you are not suited to it.you have a plate in the well deck that's some sort of inspection hatch.it looks in a poor state and any rain water in the well deck is most certenally going down their.you bow thrusters tube is seam welded in place very surprised if that is the prob.internal water is prob condensation from cold steal in cold water.all will be calm again when your misses is back
your right im not, its all so new to me, its hard not to over think it all, Bex will be back soon to save the day haha
