Sato gets a hard time from F1 fans because he crashed a lot but he has speed and some serious balls which he proved today. Hopefully he get a lot more respect now, he deserves it.
Add Variety . Two time F1 world champion Mika Hakkinen said this about Sato back in 2004:"He is incredibly fast and talented but needs to learn how chill down first. He's a bit too wild." Basically he meant that people were focusing on his crashes and Banzai charges rather than his actual talent. Truth to be told the BAR-Honda team was a bad place to be in even after they got rid of Jacques Villeneuve. The team was poorly managed and bungled away some potential wins. Sato never got the chance in this team and Jenson Button nearly buried his career with them. BAR is missed by none.
What a great race and so deserving a winner. As a disillusioned F1 fan is was great to see Alonso take part even if he did not finish. It was pure racing from start to finish.
I believed he also had the fastest lap turned all day. Just over 226 mph. Glad to see Sato win. Seems to be a great guy. Never got a top ride in F1. A lot of good drivers never do and then they're called rejects. Sato is a damn good racer. Congratulations Sato and hope you do it again.
No argument that F1 has, by and large, the best drivers anywhere. Shitty trolls are the only creatures that would maintain that Indy drivers are shit, though.
that one open wheel fanboy guy go to Talladega, Daytona or Atlanta. Once the race is over they throw whole beers and anything they can get their hand on at the winning. Car it's kinda stupid in my opinion.
Which makes Indianapolis immensely superior to say Monza, Italy. The "fans" there will literally riot of Ferrari doesn't win and boo the winning the driver - no matter how well he drove. If a Ferrari wins however - it's like the second coming of Christ (and I intentionally picked a religious allegory to describe this equally fanatically religious lot). The difference is that people at Indy are *driver* fans. At Monza, Italy they're car fans - more specifically *Ferrari fans* .
Great finish! All of us on the front stretch, paddock were cheering for Sato.... amazing.. this north end of track video is no way as loud as the crowd on the front stretch... maybe because there were more people or that we were enclosed with a roof... but.. still exciting video you posted.. thanks!
Gives us a great video thanks! Our Japanese fans will never forget this moment! And "SATO! SATO! "And, we call also praised deeply moved to local us beyond words, based on sportsmanship and clear battle with Helio and his.
Always liked Sato since the Super Aguri times, I think he matured a liytle late but he always had a super entertaining style of guys like Gilles Villeneuve or Juan Montoya. Great to se him win
Maybe now some team will let him move back up to F-1 but it would have to be a top team like Ferrari or Mercedes. He deserves to be racing among the best as he showed today he is certainly one of the best. When Alonso went out I started cheering on Takuma, even thought it was only the TV here in Florida. We have been to 4 500's, 2 Brickyards and 2 F-1 in Indianapolis back in the 70's before we moved south to paradise, so we do remember the great atmosphere.
We have been big fans of F-1 for 3 decades and there is not much we don't know about it and the differences with Indy Car having lived in Indianapolis for 10 years where I raced sports cars. Sato has learned much since his last stint in F-1 even driving for Foyt. Now with all this experience he might do well in the top level of racing. If one is a good driver, F-1 is the ultimate goal sooner or later. If someone makes him an offer, I think he would take it.
I call it poetic justice. Now when Honda is winning in F1 too with Max Verstappen in the Red Bull Honda I bet Alonso must feel pretty stupid about his "GP2 engine" comment.
Was sitting there when Stan Fox crashed on the opening lap. I was SURE he was dead ... as you could see him completely exposed in mid-air (legs and arms flying in the bright sun, exposed with the nose having been torn off the car & still going over 100 mph while a good eight to ten feet above the retaining wall, yet to have made contact back with the track). We were in the process of gathering up our stuff to leave - when a guy with a radio tuned into the safety crews frequency said that he was alive with no apparent traumatic injuries, but not responsive to verbal commands.
Felt sick that we'd just seen a driver killed - no one in our group was interested in seeing the rest of the race after seeing him thrown around like a rag doll and, surely, killed when he impacted the track again (if not already dead in mid-air). Changed when we heard that he, somehow, was still alive.
Pity that Alonso had to retire. I am partly Spanish. But Sato was one of my favourites. Oh and I wouldn't change Europe for America to live there but American style racing ftw. Now Raikkonen should try it.
his philosophy of "no attack, no chance" translated much better in Indycar also bc people wanted him to redeem himself after the 2012 500 rather than Helio win for the 4th time that year
mr8I7 It depends on where you park and when you leave the race. I park at a bank nearby, to get a spot you have to get there around 6. Leave after they kiss the bricks. Walk back to the bank and all the cars from the coke lot are just at a standstill. Takes about 15 minutes to get to the car and once you're in traffic on the main road it's not that bad. So if you're parked in a yard or at the high school or bank it won't be so bad, but if you park in the coke lot or infield you might as well just stay and watch until everything dies down, cause you won't be going anywhere.
mr8I7 I was there the last year. The car park are very big! Also, neighbors use their homes as parking. I was 5 hours to reach the speedway. The exit was a bit faster. I am planning to go back next year. Greetings from Argentina!

David I’ve lost mad respect. You rooting for sato. My block party has beers flying for an Indy race, and the party was for the 600. Which in the end had 40 Earnhardt fans watch the 3 go back to victory lane. But we all wanted to see the 3 go to victory in Indy
Sato gets a hard time from F1 fans because he crashed a lot but he has speed and some serious balls which he proved today. Hopefully he get a lot more respect now, he deserves it.
Sato was the Maldonado of his day, he was mostly liked just because (being Japanese also helped). as soon as Alonso retired I was cheering for Sato

Add Variety Maldonaldo had pace too when he didn't have to worry about cars like in qualy and in the race he won he was very quick.
That's ok. We know you aren't exactly the brightest of F1 fans.
Thank you for cheering for Sato ! from Japanese fan
+ejozaki2 You are welcome! We love Sato-San we were happy to see him win!
A BUNCH of us were cheering for him in 2012 and were thrilled for him this year. When AJ Foyt says a guy is a great driver ... we listen.
+ejozaki2 Is he the greatest japanese driver ever, after this win?
Yes, he sure is !
is he really well known in japan?? like do you guys hear about him in the news ??
Sato earned this he almost had it 5 years ago and crashed glad he kept it out of the wall this year
NASCAR SEGA Stop motion Series His driving style was super aggresive
What a great race and so deserving a winner. As a disillusioned F1 fan is was great to see Alonso take part even if he did not finish. It was pure racing from start to finish.
hermankatnip alonso held his own tho

Shit drivers in Indy. F1 champs show up and win; sometimes even the F1 chumps do
No argument that F1 has, by and large, the best drivers anywhere. Shitty trolls are the only creatures that would maintain that Indy drivers are shit, though.
Hook, line and sinker... chuckle chuckle!
Thanks champ :o)
I missed Alonso setting a fast lap. Sato set his last one during lap 150. He had three other "fastest laps" before that one - was very fast all day.
Thank you very much for your support to Sato.
トラブルタ J・ I am very happy for Sato wins! :D
Very popular win by a very popular driver. Indy car fans always knew Takuma was good.
日本人より日本人を応援してくれているアメリカ人に感動( ; ; )
This is great to see. Unlike NASCAR the fans didn't boo and the fans did throw crap onto the track. Cool to see. Way more mature than NASCAR.
Love this kind of fans and the comments.
Matt Kenseth Fan 20 I've been to las vegas..... for a nascar race, and nobody threw anything, lol

huh
I went to daytona in 2015 and when logano won no one threw anything
Thank you for supporting him!
from Japan
Seeing Sato win was so awesome. And I love how in the 500 how fans tend to cheer and call the winner home.
Which makes Indianapolis immensely superior to say Monza, Italy. The "fans" there will literally riot of Ferrari doesn't win and boo the winning the driver - no matter how well he drove. Im watching this again 3 years later, and I still can't believe he held off the living legend HELIO CASTRONEVES to win the 500
これだけの人が応援してくれて嬉しいね!
I've been a fan of Taku's since his move on Dario in 2012; so happy to see him win this year, and hope it's only the first of many! LMAO @ 2:16
he got another one.
琢磨 愛されているなぁ😂 Thank You❗ American Fan🙌

Gives us a great video thanks! Our Japanese fans will never forget this moment! And "SATO! SATO! "And, we call also praised deeply moved to local us beyond words, based on sportsmanship and clear battle with Helio and his.
I was kinda hoping Castronevas would have won but Sato earned that 1
Always liked Sato since the Super Aguri times, I think he matured a liytle late but he always had a super entertaining style of guys like Gilles Villeneuve or Juan Montoya. Great to se him win
I sat really close to u. I sat closer to turn 4. But what a hell of a race by Sato! Happy to see him win!
its amazing the difference in the crowd from a huge race like this to the race in pocono i went to last year where there was absolutly nobody.
Thank you upload!from JAPAN

I’m a huge Sato fan(met him at Long Beach 2012, as a 7 year old, super nice guy) that was so cool for me
Thank you guys for cheering for him
I was in the middle of turn 3 and 4 the last year! I will return the next year! :D. Greetings from Argentina
Thanks for up loading and cheer for Takuma
From Japan
Never did I expect to see Sato win. Amazing!
Sato won with Honda power, while somehow the ghost of Honda just can't stop clinging on to Alonso.
I call it poetic justice. Now when Honda is winning in F1 too with Max Verstappen in the Red Bull Honda I bet Alonso must feel pretty stupid about his "GP2 engine" comment.
何回見ても泣ける
I was at the beginning of turn 4. So we were pretty close to each other! Glad Sato won! Can’t wait to return this year!
Great video.
thank you for share.
Someday I want to visit to Indianapolis.
Everyone wants to live the "American Dream"! Takuma Sato did it! USA: The true land of freedom where anything is possible if you strive and work hard!
Who else had the dixon crash right in front of you? Most terrifying expierences of my life. I was crying because I thought dixon was dead.
Oval racing crashes are incredibly terrifying whenever they happen. The speeds are far higher than the top speeds of most other racing formulas.
Quay Rude why were u about to leave?
Felt sick that we'd just seen a driver killed - no one in our group was interested in seeing the rest of the race after seeing him thrown around like a rag doll and, surely, killed when he impacted the track again (if not already dead in mid-air). Thank you all
Thank you takuma
You are japanese hero !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
琢磨、感動をありがとう!!!!!
そして、本当におめでとう!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Thank you for your upload. Great vid :)
素敵な動画!
My uncle and cousins were in turn 3
Did any of them happen to be named Alex?
I'm surprised they didn't get run over ...
@@neilonaniet HAHAHAHAHA
I wish I had recorded him and Dario 2 years earlier from Stand B. Both races were somethin' else!
think i saw goosebumps on that arm that blocks the right hand side of view
They need David on the commentating team. NBC, please hire David Land for 2019!
It's kinda funny how both Ryan Hunter-Reay and Fernando Alonso blew an engine because they are the favorite drivers of Bandwagon Kid and John Claude.
48fanfromky
😂😂😂
Dude has the daredevil of Gilles Villeneuve....just a balls to the wall driver. Hope he brings it home tomorrow
I was in the north Vista too. I was in section 36. How cool!!!
Pity that Alonso had to retire. I am partly Spanish. But Sato was one of my favourites. Oh and I wouldn't change Europe for America to live there but American style racing ftw. Now Raikkonen should try it.
That was awesome. I need to go next year!
If only you saw me when he crossed. I picked him to win and I was shaking with no words
Nice camera work here. I know from my own experience that it can be difficult some times at Indy.
The guy jeering Helio deserves a medal.
Why does Sato have so many fans? i’m not familiar with Indy Car racing but i remember Sato being in F1 and he didn’t have that many fans
his philosophy of "no attack, no chance" translated much better in Indycar
also bc people wanted him to redeem himself after the 2012 500 rather than Helio win for the 4th time that year
Thankyou! Video!! Thankyou!VTR TT
These Engines. This Power. Sooo sick.
what was it like seeing Dixon's crash? how high did he go?
アメリカの皆さんありがとうございました!!! 佐藤選手今年のチャンピオンになればいいな!!!
Such a good race
McLaren can't finish any race I bet if they did even a running race they would still DNF
Celso Melo They just announced they were sticking with Honda in 2018........ Alonso will be leaving Mclaren.
i dont blame him the honda engines r unreliable and shit for gods sake a manor is faster than mclaren handa
Real Racer Even with Manor no longer existing they're still faster...
Joel Miles yes
Umm... their GT3 and GT4 cars can, however...
And he does again, although no crowd this time
Nice camera work!
I had to come back to 2:17 today. He is in fact, Rick and AJ now.
Taku attack!!
When it comes time for the NASCAR Chase you should make a Bandwagoner's guide to the chase 2017
I wanted Rossi to win again (he is my favorite) but I'm glad that Sato got the win
what kind of idiot has rossi as a favorite driver?
What kind of camera did you use for this footage? It's great
You should have a Brickyard 400 week like how you have the Indy 500 month do that but for a week and with NASCAR
I got a James Hinchcliffe ad before this
i love Sato
but is sucked to see Alonso blow an engine
Sato wins Indy, Austin Dillon wins Charlotte!
awesome lol
おめでとうございます
Did you have a view of Dixon's crash? He must've gone 15 feet in the air.
Thumbs up if you can't wait for the Belle Isle Grand Prix!
Congrats sato
''Twas crazy.
I was in the same section. What a great race. It had it all.

ARIGATO. SATO ! へ !
琢磨おめでとう!最高で~~す^^v
Me and my dad would always say "Tora Tora Tora" or Bonsai!" every time he took the lead. Does that make us bad people?
Jay Barker the fact that you even know that reference is too old school!
Play This Game Called Wreckfest ITS AWESOME
Who's are the girls cheering for Sato? :)
Girls with taste.
What's the outro song?
The Delta Force theme song. It was used for the Indy 500 intro throughout the 90s.
Taras Shevchenko ok thanks
日本人として嬉しい…
He has broken rear wing to
佐藤琢磨は日本の4輪レース界の伝説の人になったな!
SENSATIONAL! You would have to be an armchair warrior not to like this!
Couldn't happen for a nicer guy.
Do the Japanese know this value?
Why do the Japanese TVmedias not greatly report about this?
