I've followed TAT for 1 year. In Vietnam, a lot of seconhand Cascadia, Prostar above 500k miles imported. I wish vietnam have these truck service shops like TAT to maintain almost trucks Especially rebuild engine, clean EGR and DPF system.
it's not the DD15 that worries me, it's the aftertreatment system attached to it that makes me lean towards the 60 series. I heard if anything happens to the 1 box it can cost more than 10 grand out the door. Potentially putting owner operators out if business, and it's a shame cause i really like the new Cascadia's :(
This video has nothing to do with the aftertreatment system but the engine itself.Series 60 is a good motor,but myself I like dd15 better.More torque and more flexibility, and better fuel mileage 🙂
I always pressure wash anything and every thing before I start working on it .. that's a good start .. It makes me cringe every time I see some work on something that has dirt and grease falling from it..
What we’ve found on the DD15s we’ve tore down is the plastic pickup tube warps and let’s the oil pump suck air- then there’s a check valve in the pickup tube and they stick both conditions will wipe crank out while showing oil pressure and this is on engines with clean oil and were never run hot, we’re getting rid of all the trucks with this engine.
Very helpful video, I have a epa10 DD15 in my shop right now that had a liner failure, after removing bearings and inspecting crank shaft I found severe damage to the crank itself and this video helped me decide to not go any further with the rebuild of this DD15.
If you have a new cascadia with brand new gen5 dd15, have valve adjustment done asap. When you hear noise from the overhead, its too late, warranty will pay for the repairs but now you need exhaust valve bridge and adjustment screw. If out of stock it will sit in the shop. Avoid down time.
@@truck6280 had a few here in NC so I’d say not just a Mexico problem. There’s a bulletin out for it and dependent upon how bad it is depends on if it gets an overhead, adjusting screws, or bridges & adjusting screws.

If an inframe is done on a dd15 specifically on a 2014 Cascadia with a PAI aftermarket inframe kit and the motor sounds fine great actually when it idles but when you give it some fuel while it’s idling is starts clanking would this be a result of poor fuel and not priming the fuel pump ???
I will never own a DD15. These German designed engines are the down fall for a lot of owner operators. Wanna stay in business as an owner operator ? Get a 60 series 12.7 if you can find one and take care of it.

Sherm, it would be best to have the unit checked out. You could do an oil sample and keep an eye out for high crankcase pressure or if you are burning excessive oil.
What can i do...? I had my dd13 rebuilt but it locked up 250 miles after rebuild. Mechanic said i had 1 year warranty but now is backing out. Does anybody have any ideas how i can approach this situation. I dont have money to rebuild again
@@TATEXPRESSINC I hope so because the motor that's in the 2015 I bought shelled the bottom end before the 500k mark of course there's no telling how it was taken care of before I bought it. Hopefully the def systems improve again another issue I had to deal with the day the factory warranty went out 400 miles from a dealership that closed at 11pm.
Better than Cummins right now. I see the new x15s a lot with low miles having some big issues. Have seen many dd15 a make it over a million and still running. People who complain about them don’t take care of them. Especially guys who talk about how they did less maintenance on an old engine and it still would run. New engines have to be taken care of. These engines are not for the guys who do services once a year.
@@joshrichardson7340 we change your oil every 7000 we’ve got two 2250s with over 800 on them and only thing we’ve done is open up the top and run the rack , The key thing is though you gotta delete them 😉that carbon pack is a killer and them motors

West2401, the after-treatment system, is the number one concern for all owners. It is best to follow OEM maintenance to avoid major repairs. 🔧💪🏼

just get a c15 and tell CA to go to hell and you will never look back

My question is, if the out of frame overhaul failed shortly after, did they line bore the mains, and turn the crankshaft ??

I agree, also with engine seized, connecting rod can develop a slight bend that can cause failure later on...

In Australia it's about $35,000 aud for a reman like what is sitting there with labour.. replaced one about 3 weeks ago
