    I had to chuckle when you were talking about the interior padding being a mixture of buff colour and green. I had one of the original Mk2/1's and woe betide anyone who scuffed up the brand new ALL buff padding, lol. In the early days they were as you said with basic interiors being new in service and we adapted them with top boxes to carry all our G10 gear, top cages for the tarp and cam nets plus other bits to accomodate essential stuff to be stowed. We also made up thick plywood open top boxes to fit under the seats to take all our personal gear. The RE museum weren't too happy when I told them the freshly painted petrol driven Mk1 on display outside should not have been painted in desert livery because the Mk1 were never deployed out that way, only the Mk2's, not that any visitors would notice the difference, just me being pedantic.

    They are sockets for the camo net poles not smoke dischargers the smoke dischargers are on the front

    • @richardchurch9709
      @richardchurch9709 3 года назад

      Exactly right, although I have never seen them before I can see how they are used and absolutely the only smoke dischargers were at the front above the headlights. Where the camo net pole supports are, there used to be a collar around the entire vehicle housing the inflation screen, although there are precious details for these screens left anywhere in the archives. I have seen black and white pathe films of the period showing the machines in flotation rig but haven't found any specific details apart from what is in my ageing grey matter.

    my humble opinion... My 452 in the 1970s had the fire extinguisher pull where you said the emergency cut-off switch was......IMHO in my humble opinion..

      I had one of the original Mk2/1's in 1968 and you're exactly right. Also all the ducting for the filtered air supply was a very light cream white as the instructions specified. The brackets for the engine decks, (as described, more accurately the engine louvres), on the actual vehicle are torsion bar hinges and allow the front louvre to be lifted independently of the rear. I do not know if the model allows for this level of accuracy. The model I have is a resin model at £200 so obviously has greater detail.

    Craig, I'm just wondering if, on your modelling journey, you have ever come across any detailed drawings or photos of any early release machines of the late 60's-70's showing the flotation screen either stowed or raised? I have also posted a couple of comments below if you haven't seen them.

      hmmm good question, are you referring to the 43 series flotation screens etc. are you on discord or anything like that? i can have a look see what i can find for you no problems but to answer no i haven not. google may be your best bet for that.

      @@craigkerr68 This is the third time I'm trying to answer you here Craig, twice I almost got to completing it and forgot to pause your video so it got to the end and threw me out to go to the next one in 'Watch later', grrrr. Never mind, I'll learn. The flotation kit you found for me unfortunately can't be used as a direct fit because my model is 1/24th scale and I assume the Scorpion kit is 1/35th. As I said before I can still use it for a scratch build reference. I got my kit from Kit Form Services who have their own website and a comprehensive gallery section to show the detail available. As it says in my booklet the Power Pack is a kit in itself and can be put into the hull or left out. Their photo's are better than anything I have at the moment but although I'm not on Discord I am on Telegram which I find great for swapping photo's with my son in New Zealand.

      @@craigkerr68 Cheers Craig, I am assuming you know far more places to check than me, at 72 I'm afraid I quickly start to lose patience with IT. Check out their website, they do a fair few different models, fantastic detail. For video chats I find that Duo, another free one, is absolutely fantastic, so much better than Skype. I was volunteering at the RE Museum for a short while and thought about doing a 1/12th scale to give to them but I have chickened out so far. Maybe.......!

    Great build sir however your comments on the trailor hitch for the barminelayer is incorrect. There are two lugs about a foot above floor level on the rear plate that had two large bolts that held a crossbeam that had the tow hitch for the minelayer,Also the layer needed no electrical connection and the box above was for the jump start cable for vehicle to vehicle starting also ex RE

    Most interiors the I have seen in 432's are a sandy colour with the emergency stops as you called them are painted red and are for fire extinguishers. And seats pads vary with the odd bit of black masking tape used to patch areas of wear.

  • @JohnStone1714
    @JohnStone1714 7 лет назад

    I wonder Craig,,if it would be possible to leave out some of the interior,,and build an 81mm mortar inside,, :-) Just a thought.

    • @craigkerr68
      @craigkerr68  7 лет назад +1

      yep you do have a lot of variations you could scratch build into the interior over than just being the standard apc varient, i dont think it would be to difficult to do, my point was though takom have used a refurbed museum queen to make this model so hopefully there will be interior upgrades and or different varients being released. im sure though if you have the skill and patience you could super detail the thing to death, they give you a really impressive starting point so adding all the wires cables tables baseplates whatever would defo make this pop a hell of a lot more. :)

    hi Craig, the 432,s i saw during op Granby had an off white interior like you've painted yours, however i do recall seeing some with a bright gloss white interior, thinking of picking up the mk 11 chieftain like the one I drove in Germany,good luck with the rest of the build, tim the primered thumb 🖒😆

    • @craigkerr68
      @craigkerr68  7 лет назад

      i do recall some of ours being glossy aswell but only after they went for refurb they certainly didnt stay glossy long lol, i do love the chieftain you just dont realise the noise of those things on videos until your stood by one coughing and spluttering. i do love the old chieftains had many experiences with them not as crew but seeing them always in my dads workshops being fixed lol. i had more to do with the arrvs than the mbts. however when i joined they had gone and replaced with chally which was being replaced with chally 2 which i had very little to do with also being with the engineers we had our own kit and own fitters etc.

      hi Craig, yeah when I returned from Kuwait the regiment had just received challenger 1 so it was off to Bovington to do a conversion course, nothing really different in driving but less to do on the maintenance side of things.

    • @craigkerr68
      @craigkerr68  7 лет назад

      i remeber being out in fally when chally come out for its tests and it sunk in a water trap taking the crew with it. i was only young when it happend but remember the drive sprockets had an issue and were not sealed which flooded the whole tank quickly and obviously killed the pack aswell at that point the crew could not get out due to the pressure there was a right shit storm after that ref chally 1. after that i it was the crrav i worked with along with the reme fairies lol. other than that i had very little to do with the chally 1 like i said it was just starting to going out of service when i joined for chally 2

    Hi mate just got mine through the post. Looking forward to starting on it. We had 43's at Gib (Civi driver) and if I recall correctly wasn't there an adaptor frame that were attached to the rear towing eyes for the barmine layers. Thanks for some useful tips. Hope mine comes out as.good.

      hey buddy, it might have been an adapter with a nato hitch type connector on buddy its been a long time since i was in the back of one of those beasties. the bar mine layer just hooked up like any other trailer that uses nato hitches if i remember correctly. when were you at gib bks i was there 96 for b3 course initially . google images brought this up on the barmine layer so yup your right it was an adapter with a hitch on it : photobucket.com/gallery/user/JNiemczyk1/media/cGF0aDpNaWxpdGFyeS9GVjQzMmJhcm1pbmVfenBzNDBjOWU3OGYuanBn/?ref=

      Hi Craig. Still there. Been here since 2002. I think I have some pics. We use to cover B3 Ex being part of 63 sqn MT. I may have some pics somewhere. They use to get us to do the batman laying with Bedfords. We had to remove tailboards, that was a right pain. 43's went about 10 11 yrs ago. Pitty really I loved them. What with the Billy Bedfordshire what a dream job....

      @richardchurch9709 3 года назад

      Pirono, I agree with the other guys in that you don't have to be rude, it doesn't help your case. You speak of the exhaust and as you say the exhaust extension was originally only ever used when the machine was rigged out for flotation. Since they stopped floating these machines and removed all the flotation screens and mounts, the exhaust extensions were used to redirect the exhaust fumes directly up into the air when travelling and also having them like that allowed the engine to be run when the vehicle was harboured up and camouflaged by taking the exhaust fumes above the tarpaulin.
