Stefan Eriksson your starter amount increases with more sims. So, I think an 8 Sim family gets $32,000 to start.
@@jamiec1984 Well yes, but even houses clearly meant for one Sim is often over budget. Of course that's often fixed by removing a few of 1000 plants or 500 pieces of clutter tho. It's like some builders forget they increase the value.

If it was something worse, like "nite" or "sauhr" instead of "night" and "sour", then it could've been considered appropriate, but im going to guess the mistake was something that could have been corrected in your mind without an anyone pointing it out.

Phia Phia if you rotate the house so you’re facing it from the backside there is a brick tile on the left side. You can see it at 3:01 when she turns the house around

I never seen an actual building with the roof in line with the wall (so that water flow down the wall and soak it?) unless they do not have roof like those office building.

I always wonder if you remember to add more money that you lose when you sell 'used' stuff to your budget because you have a sim there. Wouldn't it be better if you edited the house with no sims in there? It would save the trouble >>
You only lose money on sales if you have exited build mode since you bought the item. As long as you never go to live mode you can buy and sell and re-buy as much stuff as you want.
@@imperiallarch7610 But she moved her sim to this lot and then loaded the lot with her sim still in there, in front of the house. When you load the lot, doesn't it always start immediately in live mode and then you have manually click the build mode? I don't want to open my game now but I am almost 100% certain that if you enter the build mode while playing a family, you get less money for selling items that were in the house. Of course, I'm not saying you're wrong, maybe I remember it incorrectly or didn't notice the difference!
Quick edit: I wrote my first comment because it was a case with other renovations, and she had to add back the money she lost because of that >>

I love this challenge! I do it for fun in my game and I actually did this house recently! This gave me some ideas to improve mine!!
Maybe do a version where its similar rules, but it has to be the same type of object that you swap? Like a window for a window, a chair for a chair?
That would go over budget
you can actually sell the wallpapers, when you put the default one you gain money
And if you use the eyedropper to find the wallpaper in the catalogue, it tells you the price, so you can just change it to any of the others of the exact same price without it costing anything at all. So there are multiple options really.

the reason they dont use move objects is because its a "cheat" and has to be enabled, a house will glitch out if you dont have move objects on and get a house with move objects, if that makes sense haha
@@shawnee9502 The bigger issue isn't that because the game will compensate, it's that if you move an item placed with move objects on, you can't put it back unless you ALSO have move objects and that's a problem. There's a Sims RUclipsr who made a video with a Dev and he said that that's why they aren't allowed to do it.

something you can do to see the full value of the lot without the depreciation is to go as if to save it to your library, you'll see the full value of the lot there. and once you start switching items you can go as if to save it again to check the price. i've been doing that when building starter homes and need to frequently go to live mode to test it

You should look at the house value before and after you finish so you can account for the resale variance! Then when you’re close to being finished you can add some more money to match!
I would do this challenge but no moveobjects and no using the alt key to place things lol. I'd get so frustrated.
You should do more builds "live" like this. It's more fun seeing you work than watching a sped up recording.
I actually like to drag the hipped roofs out a whole block. When I build 1960s rambler ranch bungalows (long, low 1960s houses) I use a very wide overhang because some 1960s California ranch houses have a whopping 4 FEET of eaves that extend from the wall! So I purposely pull the hipped roof out far.
I actually tried this one awhile back right after you had done Nookstone and this house has so few items that it is a real challenge! In the end, I added 3 objects but the house was still cheaper and I was happier with it.

Towards the end, when youre low on funds, why not check against the original value so you avoid depreciation?
the emptiness of the EA houses reminds me of the first 3 years I lived by myself for the first time. In my defense, I was broke, depressed, and never home because I worked all the time. It's only been in the last year or two that I've been trying to make my apartment more "homey" with used and hand-me-down furniture, and crafts. I just bought my first tv for 40 dollars from onlline yardsale, and I move it from my bedroom to my living room as i need. I still barely have any art on the walls. I only just got curtains. I think I must be a legacy sim who is majorly failing at life.
You should cheat to get the exact money of the object back. You are getting less money than it is worth and EA would get full money back
This might just be my favorite house in the base game to remodel. It's got so much potential but it's just so depressing, like the couch facing the wall. At least they could look out those gorgeous windows, but no. Wall.

There is a starter house in willow creek, that is built with move objects! The landscaping is very close to each other. I think there is no move objects restriction!

I'd have changed the kitchen cabinets too, they look expensive and also the chimney on the roof doesn't make any sense in the desert without a fireplace. But you indeed did a good job, the build is cool now, I'll download it and replace the old one from ea. Thank you Kayla 🤗
I started my current game with this house as my starter home. This is a a VERY cramped lot. Little to no room for gardening which is my go to money maker in the early game.
I love when you do builds like this! Don't get me wrong your other builds are amazing but it's always nice to have a challenging build!! I wish I could do speed builds like yours I'm so bad at building, that's why I just stick to let's plays lol
I did this challenge and made things unnecessarily difficult for myself 😅
I took the house value as a whole, the value and number of furniture items, and then the value of the house unfurnished and build items and used those values to stay in budget and keep the same number of objects. I came out like 40 simoleons under and it was fun figuring it out

for this challenge you should check the cost of it before you delete anything because when you sell items you don't get the item's full amount of money back. Just thought it would help

You should do one with one of the mansions like the landgrab home. Atleast you would have more objects to work with. Also its probably easier to do this if you move a sim on and off the lot them all thier objecte go into your inventory and the house is empty except for the walls.

Also, if you don't use MO, you don't need a sim in the house. So you can enter directly in build mode

I never understood why some houses have chimney but not fire place🤠 kayka’s build is so much better than original tho, making it smaller really helped I think
im not sure if you're familiar with land impact, kind of like the detail and weight of an item, the bigger/more detailed the heaver land impact it has. so removing a lamp and and placing a couch may not be equal. you know? for example like a bed could be 10 impact, a chair could be 7, desk, could be 6, and planter 4(each item can vary depending on style), but they only have an allotment for lets say 45 land impact for starter homes. it may be something like such that is stopping them. they should just release the guidelines lol.

You should make a note of the number of items in the whole build and the amount they all cost to buy (not sell back) and start with an empty house. And the budget of all the items combined.

You should try to make this challenge, but only using the objects that came when the game launched. Because it’s easier to make base game houses prettier now, when we have more things to base game! So it would be fun if you only used the real base game item in one build

I love this challenge and seeing how you do things! I don’t understand the giant roof decoration though, haha (on the original house or the reno). I think if it were smaller then it would make more sense, but I know you can’t size objects up or down in this challenge.

Maybe the best way to do this would be to remove all the objects and put them outside? And then you could move them and completely revamp how it looks so you’re not sticking to their layout? :)

Don't worry, in my opinion making the whole thing smaller really helps. They always tend to make things way too big for some reason. And empty. I don't get it. Plus, no tv, just a couch?

If you make the whole house a lot smaller, like boarder line small home, or even a small home, it would save so much money so you can get nicer things and get rid of all of the empty space
At 16k it's about the same as the Monotone in Sunset Valley I think. Looks better though, and the interior isn't as garish.

it would work so well if you count the items, note the value, demolish the lot, then make your own version using the amount of money and items. I think you could kill it doing it from scratch, but technically it would still be within EA's guidelines.

I can't help but think that you make this even harder on yourself by using the money you get back from selling the items, rather than their initial cost from the catalogue. So what you end up making actually costs less than the total it would have cost the sims team to create as you can only work with resale monies. So of course you can't put nicer stuff in.
I'd quite like to see you do a version of this where you make note of the catalogue price of the items you want to change and add that amount to your pot instead. It would take more work, but it would be interesting to see what you could come up with given a more "correct" amount of money. Might be simplest to just find all the items in the catalogue, record their total cost somewhere, and then count up the total number of items so that then you know exactly how many were there to begin with so you just have to match that when working on it.
You should replace the old houses with these ones in your simsie save! I know you don’t usually replace houses but these are so much better and theoretically would be as taxing on our computers lol

I think you should use all the packs though! As long as you are keeping them cheap and limited ietms, it's cool to see all the stuff you can do!
They should just do a overhaul and make the starterhomes and stuff pretty. I mean, you basically did the work for them and if they'd ask if they can replace their home with yours for the official game- I doubt you'd say no.
I think you could have a little more money to do that renovation. You're selling the objects for a lower price cause you actually bought the house, so the objects are now technically used when you go to build mode.
