Attention- not that I need to always explain myself…I did this review of MY hooks because I was asked to do so. I’m not “copying” anyone. My reviews, my opinions. Negative comments will be removed. Thank you.
@@chronicinokla thank you so much for this. Not even two minutes after the video was posted nasty trolls filled the comments with their hate. It’s ridiculous!
I’m very glad you removed the troll comments. Your channel is one of my safe happy places. I always enjoy your videos youre doing great work. I value your opinion and have learnt so much from you. I’ll make you laugh, I live in UK but after watching your videos I have learnt to crochet with American terms 😊😊😊
Nicely done! Have you tried Ommi hooks? I heard of them from Cinnamon Stitches. She compared them to Furls very favorably. I learned on Susan Bates back in the 70’s but arthritis moved me in different directions now.
Hi Juan. Just found your channel. I love hook reviews as I don't want to buy all those hooks myself, so reviews help me narrow down what I might like. I have been crocheting off and on since 1970. My mother gave me a Boye G hook and I still have it today. I always just used the Boye metal hooks. However...time marches on and arthritis waits for no crocheter. When I started crocheting a lot more, about 8 years ago, I found that the metal hooks made my hands hurt. I accidentally ran across some hooks with the squishy soft handles at Hobby Lobby one day and since they were $2.99, I decided to try them. They were pretty good I thought and I was using them constantly. But then I decided to venture out. My very favorite hook is probably the Clovers, but I find the handle a bit short for my hand. But I LOVE the hook on them. I bought about 6 of the Furl's Odyssey hooks and I wanted to love them, but I don't. I love the handle but hate the hook. If I could have a Clover hook on a Odyssey handle, I would love that. I did invest in 6 BQueen hooks and they are probably my favorites at this point. However, I am now coveting a set of Nelson hooks with wood handles and Clover hooks. I am going to try to accomplish that this year as my husband will soon be retiring and I won't have the funds for such indulgences. I also have the Tulip Etimo set in pink and one in gray and like those as well, but again, handles are too short for my liking. Thanks for the hook review.
Thank you very much for the hook review. I never thought it could be the fault of the hook quality for my dropping yarn off hook while working. Your opinions are clear and helpful. Thank you 🧶 K
Juan, what a great review! The history of crochet hooks is so amazing! Thank you for sharing this information and your insights with all your subscribers!!! It is always fun to learn more about the implements we utilize for crocheting and knitting!
First I must say that I love a left-handed hooker as I am one too! I will never be able to express how much your channel has meant to me! I've always enjoyed the idea of crocheting byt just didn't go beyond single, double or triple back and forth, back and forth! In college, I decided to hook an afgh, n and my roommates all worked on it with me. Such a great stress reliever but it did turn out a little hideous 😅 It kept us warm and I think we all used it! I just bought the Beachwood hooks in the larger sizes from Amazon but have yet to use them. Thanks for an excellent vlog❤
My most treasured crochet hook is a pale green vintage Susan Bates that belonged to my Great Aunt. She tried to teach me how to crochet when I was little, but I just couldn't get it. When she passed away I kept the last piece she was working on, with the hook. I've learned to crochet and have been for the last 25 years. I use it for special projects and I'm always filled with wonderful memories of her while I'm using it ❤️
Juan, I have so many different hooks that I do not know what I have. I have my aunts, my husband's grandmother's and mother's, and my mom's. I have also bought some. I don't like any particular one. I just use what feels comfortable and doesn't snag on the yarn. I sometimes use wood, sometimes plastic and sometimes metal. Everyone has their own personal preference, and that is ok. Love your review. Maybe I will look at my hooks more closely.
Thanks for giving the Susan Bates a good review. I prefer inline hooks and I have found them to be consistent. My only “complaint” is I can’t find any fancy inline hooks.
My hook of choice is the Tulip etimo in red. Thanks for doing a review of yours. We all have our go to hook so its nice to see some others and hear the pros and cons that we may not have considered.😂
Thank you for this review. I'm still figuring out what works best, but definitely ergonomic hooks with my arthritis. The beachwood set looks like it has all the things at a great price. I will be trying those. Appreciate you.
Juan,I like to have more than one needle craft, so if you ever decide to switch to knitting I know you're great at that too, I can learn from you , you're very easy to understand so thanks for your time and have a great day.
❤❤I respect your opinion...as you say, it is yours and you are entitled to have your own. Just like all of us.. negativity has no place here...your points are valid, too...
Juan, I love your channel. To me it is a fun teaching tool on what yarns and hooks to buy. And not to mention, how to crochet beautiful things. Love your mother she is a gem to the show. You keep smiling because it will the trolls away. Don't let them upset your happy party.😊 Take care.
I enjoyed watching your hook review. Not everyone explains the same and you did a fantastic job of showing them up close. I really appreciated that. I even learned a few things I didn’t know. Thank you Juan.
Enjoyed your review. I still have my first H Boye hook when I started to crochet in 1972 and it was my only hook until the 1980s. Now I love getting more hooks!
It's like writing a song, its the same notes and melodies but the words are rearranged its just the way of things. Some writers struggle and others flourish.
I still love the Furls Wood set (Ebony) for its lightness and the resin set (Jupiter and Cafe) for the medium heavy. Their handle really helps with the grip during arthritic flare ups. Not everyone will like them but that is perfectly okay, everyone has their favorite types that work for them.
I love the Prym hooks too, they're the perfect combo of inline and tapered for me. Love inline hooks like the Bates hooks as well but never knew about those when I was young. From what you showed the newest Bates hooks are the pointiest, I like that point. After watching you and other people try out the "toothbrush handle crochet hooks" (yours are in that light grey roll-up case, but they're also sold without a case) I bought the four largest sizes and they are good hooks. Nice long flat handle and smooth hook. Thanks for the show and tell, I really like your tutorials and was so happy to discover another lefthanded crocheter!
I have WeCrochet dots hooks. I love them. I brought some of the Tunisian hooks, that you got. Cheap ones. In the end I got Knitter's Pride DREAMS Tunisian hooks, made from Bamboo. Thank you for this review. I really enjoying it. ❤ it is so nice, what to, and what not to buy.
Thanks very much, Juan! I learned a lot from your video m. I mostly use Clover Amour, but I really enjoy learning about other kinds of hooks out there. So thank you again! ❤
I LOVE LOVE LOVE the Prym hooks!! I have multiple of them too! I just wish they came in the (I) size. I feel the Furls metal hooks are very heavy, but they do crochet well. 😊
I really can't believe people have nothing better to do than to be nasty. I really enjoyed your hook review I learned so much. Everyone has a different opinion, I personally take a bit from every one I watch and form my own. But I am not telling you something you don't already know. Thank you for sharing. Hugs
👋 Juan! I bought 2 Pryms w/Michael's coupons at your suggestion and use for bulky yarns. Have to say I am glad to have missed the negativity. There is room for everyone. 😊
Good morning Juan. Thank u for your honest opinion on some hooks. Your Ophire hooks are beautiful. I bought one in green. Agree that if compared to Furl’s they are short. Have a good day.
Thank you for including Susan Bates hooks. Sometimes I feel like an outsider because Susan is my brand of choice. I also feel like the ergonomic hooks are only for people who hold the hook in an overhand position. I use a ‘pencil’ position to crochet so the fatter handle just doesn’t work for me. I do think the overhand position makes a faster crocheter.
Great hook review, thanks for taking the time to show us your hooks and share your opinions. Hooks are very personal and I like hearing about the preferences of my fellow crocheters. I am a Clover and in-line hook person. I can't use Furls and Pryms because they are hard for me to hold with a pencil grip. Much appreciated, Juan. Ignore the trolls, we do!!
My sister is much more proficient at crochet and swears by the Clover hooks, while i am in love with the Prym ergonomic hooks. They work so well for me, and are my go-to hooks . Thanks for giving us a tour of your collection as well as your honest feedback.
I love your reviews. Haters are just doing it to draw attention to themselves. It is your opinion and your channel. There are many of your favorites that I don't like or can't use, but that's ok, because people have different ways of holding hoiks, different techniques, vastly different hand sizes and sometimes physical limitations that make one hook better than another for Them. I like your reviews because it helped me to understand why others like a hook that I may not particularly need or like, or why some hooks are great for some yarns or stitches and not for others. Thank you for all you do. 99.9% of us like and value your reviews. 😊
I really never had any idea that there was a big difference in hooks until recently ( I have been crocheting for about 6 years, only seriously for the past 4) I find it so interesting to find out all these facts about hooks, who knew??? Come spring, I'm hitting garage sales to see if I can find find old hooks❤ Thanks for sharing your knowledge ❤
I found a hero and gem hook at a resale store. Didn't know they were sought after hooks. I was just buying hooks randomly. I like them both. I learned about them from Crystal (BOD).
I am a Susan Bates girl....however I have the entire set of Prym as well....but my go to hook will always be a Susan Bates hook!! Loved your review. Thank you Jaun!! ♥️🤗♥️🤗
I just went to Amazon looked for the Lewhoo hooks they are $13.49. I have a couple of those I really like them so I just ordered the set. Thanks for sharing
I Love Boye Hooks, but since I’ve tried Prym and Clover Amour, they became my go to hooks. Then I saw people reviewing Furls, I tried them, they’re pretty good. Specially the Metal Streamline. So now I have 3 hook brands I alternate cause I love them all. Thank u for sharing your review on hooks.
I would like to see how those type of spaghetti hook work. Maybe not those with no yarn space but some you prefer. Thank you Juan hoping you and your Mom have a wonderful day in Delawear.
You really need to try the Ommi hooks I love that they are long and comfortable. I also like the luxury hooks from Hobby Lobby they remind me of the Prym. But I am a Susan Bates and I do find myself using them the most. I’m also a pencil holder so I know it’s different for everyone. Thanks for sharing your hooks. Hope you’re having a good evening.❤
I really never thought about the hooks I use that much but have gravitated toward the clover hooks and like the metal ones better than the plastic ones. I have also picked up hooks at thrift stores and garage sales and was given some wood ones as a gift. I am now going to look at what I have and just take a notice at the differences. Thank you for talking about this! Interesting!!
Just today i was waiting in the Walmart parking lot and trying to start a project with a Walmart bamboo hook. I hated it, so ran in and got a boye hook. I absolutely hate the pot metal hook. It wouldn't slide through the yarn at all. I will be returning the new one, so thank you for doing this review
Thank you Juan for your hook review. It is always good to get different opinions on things , and then try at least one hook to get your own opinion before purchasing a whole set. With some places you purchased from you can't do that but $20. is not really a bad amount to lose if you don't like the hook set. Then you can always use them in a pinch or give them to someone who can't afford to buy a set but wants to crochet. 😊 Thank you again. Hi to Mom!
The set of hooks you got from Amazon for $11 is the set I use the most. I love the grip, it doesn't tire my hand out, I first saw them at Hobby Lobby (called Yarnology) sold individually and I tried it out. As soon as I found them on Amazon I ordered the entire set. The only draw back is the lettering will wear off after use so I just memorize what color is what size, It's easy because I use mostly the I and J. I had to go with a different set of Yarnology to get the larger sized. Nice collection!
I enjoyed this very much. I've watched other hook videos, and loved them too! I am very interested in what hooks people like and why. I enjoy Furls Oddessey hooks due to arthritis, and I can crochet longer with less pain, but I am always wanting to see what works for others so I can try them too. May have a !little fear of missing out!
Hi Juan! 👋😀 Thank you so much for this guide of hooks! I'm going thrifting today and will look for these hooks. Lately, I have been using the Bates hook. For me, they seem to hold onto the yarn better than the Boyd's hook. Thanks again, Juan! Keep on doing what you're doing! ❤
It aggravates me to no end, that people say mean things, and if someone else showed their hooks who cares, your hooks are yours…and we love your videos. I don’t even watch many crochet channels, just you , llama momma Kayla, and tatmoma 73 and the beg brigade. I actually love the Boye hooks, in size H it’s my go to hook. 😊 but, I’d like to try a Hero hook one day. 😊
The prim hooks look like if boy and Susan Bates got together in the same hook. If i could find a metal ergonomic hook set that look like that for a decent price I would get them. I also agree with you about the nicely tapered head like the gem hook.
Very nice hook review! 🧶 I use the Tulip Etimo Rose & the Clover Soft Touch. When I use a hook, I wrap all my hook handles several times w/ a long strip of shelf liner to create a thick spongy handle. I use 2 of those little hair braids bands to secure the liner to the hook. I think I got the little bands maybe several hundred in different colors for $1 (dollartree).
Attention- not that I need to always explain myself…I did this review of MY hooks because I was asked to do so. I’m not “copying” anyone. My reviews, my opinions. Negative comments will be removed. Thank you.

Great, informative, easy-to-understand review. Thank you -----Mimi
Thanks Juan! Your vintage hooks are awesome!
I like the clover the best for me
I enjoyed your review, Juan. I have to use ergonomic hooks now. My top 2 are Prym and Clover Amour. Even though I have small hands, I love my Prym.
Thank you for your review. My favorite are my furls odyssey, so sad that they don’t make them anymore, I thinks now I mostly use my knitpicks hooks.
Thank you for the hook reviews. There are some pretty expensive hooks out there, not sure if they are any better than the affordable hooks.
The prim hooks look like if boy and Susan Bates got together in the same hook. If i could find a metal ergonomic hook set that look like that for a decent price I would get them. I also agree with you about the nicely tapered head like the gem hook.
So glad I saw this because I was thinking of getting that set from Temu, since the yarn was a success
Hi Juan, I been patiently waiting for this review 🥰💜💜💜
Very nice hook review! 🧶
I use the Tulip Etimo Rose & the Clover Soft Touch.
When I use a hook, I wrap all my hook handles several times w/ a long strip of shelf liner to create a thick spongy handle. I use 2 of those little hair braids bands to secure the liner to the hook. I think I got the little bands maybe several hundred in different colors for $1 (dollartree).
