I was surprised that Hyundai and Kia models were not on the most stolen list due to the now infamous TikTok videos on how easy it is to steal certain Hyundai/Kia models.
They are some of the most stolen cars in the county I just moved out of last year. Some insurance companies won't even insure them anymore.
I agree was suprised and happy to hear. Maybe because they have a low resale value, and lots others dont like the way they look especially Hyundai, Kia has better looking vehicles
Because they are garbage and no market values in the under-world market... so thieves don't want to take risk to steal cars nobody wants
So was I. May have overlooked
They break down to much.
Years ago I was out in my barn working on a project.
I had a F150 (I put 3/4 ton rear suspension on it) and I heard a couple of teenagers down by the pickup.
Some of the other farmers were having problems with their pickups being stolen and teenagers were suspected for “Joy Riding”.
I had a shotgun in the barn but the shells were loaded with Rock Salt.
I got down to the pickup and those teenagers were about to get into my pickup.
I shot both barrels.
Those boys dropped after that salt penetrated their skin.
I then called the Sheriff but those boys were gone by the time the Sheriff arrived.
The sheriff just laughed when I told him what I had done.
The boys parents ended up having to take their misfits to the hospital.
Before I pulled the trigger, I recognized the boys.
The other farmers and myself didn’t press charges against those boys.
I figured that the rock salt was punishment enough, as did the other farmers.
Farm theft rates dropped by over 85% after that.
Word got out that farmers are shooting with rock salt and then the small town rumors started from there.
I knew the boys’ parents. The dad came to me later and actually thanked me for punishing his boys. He knew that they were into mischief but didn’t know that they were the ones stealing.
One of the local farmers bought me a ball cap and was embroidered with the word SALTY.
All the local farmers met up at a local coffee shop in town in the mornings for coffee and gossip.
Farmers have to kind of look out for each other and help one another.
All these years later we still live in the country.
We wouldn’t have it any other way.
Have a shotgun with rock salt on standby. How did I miss that one 😂. That was a great story thanks for sharing!
Should have pressed charges.
@@notmebutyou8350 Naa, they were boys. This was back in the early 80s.
Kids back then from farming communities generally got the message to straighten up and fly right after getting a physical painful punishment.
Their dad told me that they got a hard spanking after they got home from the hospital.
Both boys went on to college and became good men with families.
Growing up in a farming community I did some stupid stuff too.
How do you think I learned about the Rock Salt in the shotgun shells? I learned from experience 🤣.
I was in college when I shot those boys.
I have a PhD in psychology.
In New York 2023 you would have been charged. Times have changed, certainly not for the better.

I'll just buy a Mitsubishi Mirage hatchback. You don't have to lock this car. Nobody steals it.😀
@@scooterbob4432 🤣🤣🤣 1000% True
@@love4gtsandguns But my real problem is that my wife hates small cars.
Thank you!!!
The reason why the Model S is one of the least stolen is because it’s a piece of junk for what they charge for it
My strategy to avoid theft is to buy only manual transmissions. I had a friend who left the keys in his three-on-the-tree manual Dodge Aspen, and my '51 Studebaker had the starter switch hidden in an unexpected location, ditto the Nash, ditto the Packard, ditto the Buick....
My new Crosstrek is a six-speed.
Fortunately, we’re able to keep our cars garaged at night. I drive an “old” 2005 Mazda 3, but my wife has a 2016 Honda Accord. Having a car garaged is the best theft prevention I know of.
Not if you are renting the basement in that house while owners live upstairs. We have alot of cars parked outside on driveway here and other neighborhoods around me. Have seen 4 on driveways which is not unusual. Use steering wheel lock or something to deter thieves. A thick chain?
Another great, useful video. Thank you! Appreciate the info on ways to stop thieves. I have a faraday pouch, didn't realize there's also a box and something else to put in the footwell to stop thefts.
So people aren't stealing Mustangs? I started to buy with a manual transmission, that's probably the best antitheft device out there.
Informative video. Thanks CHC.
To say it isn’t the manufacturers fault is complete BS. My truck was stolen in 2.5 minutes in the middle of the day. It was locked, I had my keys in a faraday pouch. The fact that a $100 OBD2 scan tool and a $15 replacement key is all that is needed to steal a brand new $55k vehicle is insane and a huge safety issue. Yes govt needs to do more but so do the manufacturers . Why not require 2 factor authentication? I need to do that to log into my email so why not require that to reprogram a vehicle’s smart key?
I turn off the fob, use the manual key and direct contact with start button to start the vehicle.
Most stolen- Hyundai cars and KIA cars from 2021 and older became stolen because they don’t have immobilization capabilities. My 2011 Hyundai Sonata was stolen after being hotwired thanks to TikTok! I hope that website is prosecuted.
@@dannygonxalez9011 what if you don’t have a garage?
Steering wheel locks also.
@Danny Gonxalez how would an always-on dashcam help? It would need a self-contained battery AND it would need to be perpetually uploading to thr cloud AND it would require the thief to not cover his face????
IMO, most of the cars on this list also happen to be some of the most popular models. When 10% of the cars on the road are civics, its going to have a lot more opportunities to be jacked.
Here in Crete Greece we have till now enough security, we are in an island and we have old cars ! I think that if the person that steals the car knows that if they catch him he "pays" much much more than he is planning to earn then he is not going to do it anymore! Nice video!
This is why I have a manual hidden spring loaded toggle switch. If the switch isn't held down, the vehicle will never start.
The bad part is they don’t know that until they’ve done damage by breaking in
@@hoponspot My comp insurance has a $100 deductible, so little out of pocket and some inconvenience.
We have an Outback and a Forester.
They’re one of the safest vehicles on the road and since they’re stolen less often, these factors help save on our insurance premiums
I just got my first Subaru... An Outback. I'm super happy with it! Safety, comfort, capability, even a dash of luxury... Suddenly my love affair with Toyota is but a happy memory. :)

There are a lot of hackers capable of stealing your car. The most effective way of securing your car is to park it in your garage if you have that option.
I had an alarm system installed on my Honda. If you didn’t have the factory key to start it, a thief would have to literally pick it up and tow it away.
The day after I installed it someone tried to steal it.
I was in a meeting and the alarm went off. I looked out the window and saw some asshole in a hoodie running away from my Honda. It was a Clifford alarm. It paid for itself that day. Two more times jerks tried to Jack my ride.
I was living in southern CA at the time going to college.
Shari, thanks for the info.
I appreciate your channel
There was a video on our news the other evening, a gang of --- uh --- economically disadvantaged youths dragging an elderly man from his car and beating him before getting into his car, then piling out because none of them knew how to drive a stick.
I put a _SHIFT HAPPENS_ decal on the door of my new car to discourage such actions.
@@5610winston Those thug’s would have holes in them if they tried dragging me out of my car.
My wife and I both have concealed carry permits and we exercise our rights to bare our side arms.
I would claim that I feared for my life so I did what I had to do to survive.
Thankfully we live in an area of America where many people have permits and carry as well.
I certainly don’t ever want to kill anyone, but if I have a choice of me or them, it’s not going to be me.
I installed a OBD2 port lock and also I just disable the key fob every time I park the car outside with just a couple of clicks. The faraday pouch is way too cumbersome.
Didn't know about locking covers for the diagnostic port. Thanks. My car is only 25 yo so think I'll look into that.
Shari, it would be great if you could address stolen catalytic converters, what we can do, some good products...thanks.
GREAT IDEA!
I've been using the "Club" since 1992. I bought the club after seeing a classmate's car being actively stolen. We were on the 4th floor of a university building looking out on the street below during a 15 minute break between classes. By the time my fellow classmate got down to the street, the crook drove off with the car.
I have also seen cars with the steering wheel removed to prevent the car from being stolen.
Had a friend (who is since deceased) who would leave "The Club" right in the parking spot where the car was after he stole it, just to make a point.
308 Winchester does an excellent job slowing them down. And what a magical affect on recidivism! Check your local laws since this might not be legal outside TX. Texans don't like thieves.
You kill someone over a material object? You sound like a psychopath.
You sound exactly like a texan. Did you mean to imply that people who believe in gun control like thieves? Do you think stolen property is the same as homicide?😮
@@susanduffey9445 Lots of Texans believe in gun control! That's using both hands for accuracy. It's a tragedy that we're unable to persuade thieves that no property is worth a human life. Don't abuse law abiding people and you're unlikely to know that they're armed.
👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Dean Winchester doesn't mess around.
Pull out the Fuel Injection fuse. Works for me.
Bro nobody is trying to steal a Nissan Leaf love it lol
I have a beat up Datsun 280C I don't have to worry about thefts because the chicken wire and zipties holding that car together are the best deterrent and if someone does steal that car its pretty safe to say the brakes will fail on them and the gas pedal will get stuck down
The thing that perplexed me the most is that people steal cars in Canada! 🤔 🇨🇦 🍁 🇨🇦 🤔
We actually have very sophisticated organized crime ring(s?) operating in toronto and montreal. That's why so many brand new Lexus are being targeted. They're stolen and then shipped overseas on cargo containers.
I've even heard of people taking their new Lexus home from the dealer and having it stolen that same night.
E Johnson: Crime is very bad I'm Canada too like in the USA. Since COVID crime has skyrocketed in every country along with car thefts and car jacking.
For the Lexus RX any difference between gas or hybrid of what’s stolen?
Hi Shari, how come you have never reviewed dodge cars? Mainly Durango and charger I would love to see your opinion on those cars. Aside from one Jeep gc video and some wrangler videos, you never talk about american cars...
My late husband's 1961 Rambler Classic was never stolen and never made it to any sort of "Top 10 Most _______(fill in the blank) Car" list. I will say that he loved to "do the nasty" with them reclining seats though. thought you should know....
I the vehicles on the most stolen list are also popular in style and sales!
There's good news. On the bright side, car theft is decreasing in Australia as cars become more sophisticated and more difficult to steal and/or break into. There's been a nearly 80% reduction in car theft over the last 20 years, partly thanks to the mandate of immobilisers, but also more awareness and CCTV.
All cars sold in Australia since 2002 must have immobilisers fitted at the factory. So our insurance is rather cheap for cars. I have a new for old replacement for the lifetime of the car, platinum car insurance that costs $716.00 dollars a year. If your car is stolen or written off you get to choose from three manufacturers that have the same level of luxury and size as the car they had, or they will replace it with the same car and range model.
The only problem we have now in Australia is the increase in sometimes very violent break and enters for the sole purpose of getting the car keys to the victims vehicle. It's particularly a problem with youth crime.
No matter how much security your vehicle has when they want to steal it is gone sometimes they even used tow trucks
I used to drive manual and now I enjoy automatic but I guess it's a homecoming for me in manual transmission.
It's amazing how they can get away with it how come police can't catch those guys
I’m glad that my 2020 Toyota Tundra is not on the list of the most stolen vehicles 👍
This is one of the reasons why my parents didn't get the old gen CR-V but they got the new 2023 model and they actually keep it safe.
What has changed to make the new model safer? There is an optional app for the two top trim levels if you are willing to spend $12/month plus tax.
@@cdnlad75 I never said anything of what makes the new refresh safer all I said is that they keep it safe
I'm pretty sure my 2007 Pontiac G6 is a least stolen car.
Get yourself a vehicle equipped with an anti-millenial theft device (manual transmission).😉
That's why I still drive manuals. Been driving them since 1978.
any well versed/professional thief (considering they have all these computer gizmos and stuff) would know how to drive both transmission types. don't think just because it's a maual, it'll deter them, boomer.
@@littleswansplaygrownd6817 🤣 spoken like a true snow flake ❄ 😉
@@The-Jokes-on-You your original comment is straight out of facebook, boomer. being able to drive manual isn't a magical skill
@@littleswansplaygrownd6817 Actually per US News & World Report, only 18% of Americans can drive a manual transmission & that's less than 1/5 of all drivers who have what it takes. Think about that the next time you tie up traffic on your Moped.
Also, leaving your car running while you make a quick dash at the 7-11 isn't too smart either! That, and parking your unlocked car in your driveway with all kinds of items visible from the outside.
I drive an 18 year old 4Runner, rarely lock the doors. Then again, old technology that requires a physical key and not some fancy remote might have something to do with it?
I'd like to see which method was used and ranked. I know Kia and Hyundai have manufactured issues that make them easy to steal, but how were these other vehicles stolen?
One thing I have noticed over the year's, European car makers, namely the luxury brands know what they are doing when it comes to anti theft systems on their vehicles. What many of them may lack in reliability, they make up for it in security. When it comes to theft, you see LOTS of Japanese vehicles on the top ten list & 0 European models.
actually Dodge/RAM/Chrysler is owned by Stillantis which is a European company.
@ray johnson but they are not a European company. They are American made originally regardless who owns them.
Useless video... but definitely appreciated. If they want it, they WILL get it! The steering will lock aka The Club, is the least protection for a vehicle. Had a friend (who passed away back in the 90's) who would leave "The Club", right in the parking spot where the car was, just to make a point.
😂😂😂
Which the best small car in snow, and the best looking and the best resale ??
As of now, auto insurance companies are threatening not to insure many South Korean vehicles! They are too easily stolen!
You should do most stolen Hyundais/ Kia models
That’s one reason why our insurance is lower on our Outback and Forester
*What* gets stolen is more dependent on *where* it gets stolen. Thefts occur more often in certain areas and situations, so the vehciles that are around those points are the "winners". The *value* of the vehicle has very little to do with it as theft-to-order/parting is such a small part of the overall theft numbers that it is statistically irrelevant.

Hi...why don't make a video of best suspension...going over a small ramp!
I once had "the club" for my car. It still got stolen, and subsequently totaled. So I consider it to be useless as far as being a thief deterrent goes.
However if owning a steering wheel lock helps reduce your insurance rates, I don't see the issue with buying one.
It only slows them down at best. Sometimes that's enough to deter a thief and sometimes it's not.
another wheel lock device that cant be taken off not a club locks onto the steering wheel buckle and it can't be it can't be removed
Another advantage of having a Honda fit , it's a Honda but isn't stolen as much as most hondas
Can installing an OBD lock or kill switch void your warranty?
Great question. Aftermarket modifications do not automatically void your warranty. If you experience a problem with your car, however, and the dealer can prove that the problem is caused by the modification, they can deny a warranty claim for that particular problem. I'm not familiar with these products causing issues.

2023 was the worse for car theft. The numbers are almost doubled in Canada.
My 2021 Subie Outback is invisible to thieves and 🚓
Those steering wheel locks are a joke and a waste of money... thieves can disable them in seconds... I have a friend that had one on his truck and they stole the truck within minutes after he left it parked outside his business.
Sometimes the extra 10 minutes it takes to steal a car with a wheel lock is enough to deter a thief. That's all you can really expect or hope for out of it.

What about the Mazdas?
Good quality but…….
Not easy to let them disappear in the mass…low volume production compared with similar cars.
Not an extremely valuable item also.
By the way…
Most stolen cars are silver grey or white for the reason i named.
Taking of body panels in those colors are also more lucrative.
Extra police will not do stakeouts in front of your house 4am in the morning. Nor can they be around to stop day time car jacking at gunpoint whether its real or not.
Where are kia and hyundai? I see 20 plus new stolen kia and hyundai every week at my local car auction since in order to steal it, you only need usb cable.
They have high theft rates on certain models but didn't make the top 10
Thieves are getting smarter. The vehicles that you stated were most stolen have flawed security systems that are super easy to hack into. Security "options" need to be standard.
I’m lucky. I park my 2018 mustang 5.0 on the street in front of our house. I don’t lock the doors because it’s not worth stealing. I have gap insurance so if it’s stolen and never recovered I get another car like it or the equivalent in money from my insurance.
The best anti theft device is buy a vehicle if you can with a manual transmission
Seems like these are just the most popular vehicles on the road. This list mimics most cars sold.
Yea, I have a suggestion for curbing vehicle theft.. Back around the turn of the 19th century there used to be penalties for horse thieves and cattle rustling.. Usually a short piece of rope with a longer drop.. At least there would be no more "repeat offenders"...
The best security system in the world costs only $450, and you only need to pick up 2 things from a store. Also doubles as a good home security system 😉
Dam are Hondas that easy to jack!? I drive a 96 accord lol dont nobody want to steal my old as car tho. 280,000 miles and still running strong 💪😁
How come Hyundai & Kia didn't make the list? Many insurance companies will not insure them because of how easy it is to be stolen.
The Hyundai Elantra is on the list.
It's because it's USA where they don't have engine immobilizer
Imagine that, the most stolen cars are also the one's in the largest numbers of cars sold. Whodathunkit?

It looks like you can't drive nice new things and the thieves have more rights than I got so it looks like I will have to drive a crappy 1970 Chevy Nova nobody will steal that or a 1972 Ford Pinto with a manual transmission now nobody will ever think of stealing that .
"Police enforcement" are you kidding? They have much more important duties. Do not get me wrong I do appreciate the video, as always. I also wonder how "stolen" was defined. Could you clarify? not surprising at some of the most stolen vehicles also being among the most popular sold I.E. Some of your crime prevention tips are being mentioned a lot. Like increase police enforcement. While that will help, the lax consequences dealt out by district attorneys and judges, would negate any police enforcement. Remember that police only enforce the laws on the streets. The judicial system and liberal attitudes of elected officials puts the criminals back on the street with minimal punishment.
Who the Hell would want to steal a Toyota or a Lexus, or Honda for that matter.
Because they are popular for their parts.
We need police focusing on theft.
I live in the UK and here, Range Rovers are always stolen. I have two colleagues that had theirs stolen, I think because it's a British luxury car, people love Range rovers here. I never expected a few Hondas on the list, as I never thought Honda to be a lux car. I was planning on buying a civic as my next car, as I drive an old Toyota Yaris which is so beaten up that no one would bother steal it.
So, what I got from this video is, Canadians don't steal nearly as many cars as in the United States.
Well then again the whole population of Canada is less than California alone so it makes sense.
Canada has population about ten percent of U.S. New vehicles sold are roughly ten percent of U.S. sales figures. Not as many cars to be stolen, but in some areas, like Toronto, thieves specialize on Lexus SUV s.
this list is so all over the place and confusing!! and why are we combining US and Canada?
