Great video. A321XLR will also feature new slat design for reduced weight and better aero. Also Airbus are deep in talks with P&W to use GTF gen 2 on the aircraft. This engine will simultaneously have higher thrust and better efficiency while addressing all the current reliability issues. Should be one solid little plane. It will be crucial post pandemic as many routes opened by the dreamliner might now only reopen with this aircraft due to drop in demand.

Spanny5 Thanks for your comment. Yep, the A350 and 787 set new standards for widebody efficiency, making our aviation industry cleaner and greener. Thanks for watching :)
Many are anticipating a NSA from airbus sometime in 2030 to replace the successful A320 family. However I hold a different opinion. With the success of neo, airbus will likely repeat the same strategy again when newer and more efficient 2nd gen GTF becomes available. Perhaps this time it will be an A321X & A322X with a new larger wing for higher MTOW, longer landing gear, longer fuselage stretch and of course a new engine. The A220 on the other hand will likely see the - 500 becoming reality taking the place of the A319neo and A320neo with their very own neo.
2nd gen GTF may actually already end up on the XLR. It would likely be classified as a PIP rather than 2nd gen though. I would love it if Airbus built a new carbon fibre wing for the XLR and really raise the bar and range to 5000nm :)
@@michaelaldersey5348 airbus wasn't sure it would be well received. Hence small upgrades is the less risky approach. This is also the reason why the A321LR exist. Airbus is testing the market little by little and subtly eating away boeing NMA market share. PIP will only improve on certain aspects. The 2nd gen GTF should probably be looking at BPR of 15 and OPR of >50 and also longer intervals for the gear maintenance.
Ching Wei Xion Interesting, Yep and a further evolution may include new wings as well for more payload. However Airbus CEO stated that the next launch of a new single aisle will be based on electrified platforms. Perhaps the electrified for a smaller aircraft and re-engine for the Neo. Well it will be interesting. Thanks for watching!
@@chingweixion621 I guess we need to wait and see. Gen 2 gtf is possible on xlr while CB wings will not happen. Still imagine a new plane building on a350 developments. It would be capable of 6000nm! Electrified versions are still way out. Synthetic aviation fuel (SAP) and hydrogen based fuel might become fuel of choice first.
@@michaelaldersey5348 for small single aisle aircraft, the gain from carbon composite materials is not huge. The gain is easily lost to material cost. That is why after the hype about advanced composite died down, the industry generally accepted that a neo improvement is good enough. Juz look at the A320neo, B737max, A330neo and B777x.
