    If you what to know what are the elements of Management are, they are as follows 1- Planning
    2- Organizing
    3- Staffing
    4- Directing
    5- Controls
    If you possess skills in these 5 areas, Congratulations! You just might have what it takes to be a Manager! Now understanding what those 5 elements actually encompass, well that’s another issue now isn’t it? 😎

    what up man. Love the video. So I have been working side by side with one of my close friends who is a artists and within the time we've worked together i grew her instagram to 29.8k and basically is the one who built all her relationships, I give her advice on what choices she should make, Im always guiding her on what to do and how to do it. My concern is our relationship is falling off and I've invested alot of my time and money in to her, I've showed her everything ive learned and more and i want to make sure that my efforts are rewarded incase she takes off or starts making money. How can I do that? Also now that i have been working with her, alot of people in my area want to work with me but i dont know how i would make money off them. They are all mostly just local artists with not too much recognition or capital. Some have alot of talent and i would love to work with them but im already basically doing alot of "free" work for my original artist. Thank you in advance if you answer my long questions lol

    • @JuancoPRoFlow
      @JuancoPRoFlow 4 года назад +1

      If your throwing money at that artist, than you are acting more like a label/investor, not as a manager. You should have worked out a deal with the artist even before you started. A simple one page on paragraph contract would have probably sufficed. Stating that, you will be working with he or she, investing some money and knowledge into the artist for the sole purpose that in the future if set artist gets a record deal or starts making money, you automatically will recoup your investment and you will become her manager for a set percentage of her salary, maybe a 20 or 30 percent. There's so many ways to structure something like that. Just be creative in the way you wanna get compensated for your free work now in the future. Or open up your own label and sign the artists to your label. Talk to a music or entertainment lawyer so they can guide you.

    I'm gonna ask dumb here. 5-35% of what? gig revenue? merch? royalties? what about all the negotiation a manager does that doesn't really have a pot of gold at the end, like pitching and getting press attention etc...?
    As an artist who has never had a manager, I have always wondered where that 'percentage' everyone always talks about ACTUALLY comes from.

    Is it fair to take payment monthly and lower the percentage rates? Example: artist pays manager $300 per month and decide to give 5-10% in commission. Is this possible?

    Would it be best to just hire an accountant to handle what's coming in an out even though they are expensive?

    • @PhaseVi
      @PhaseVi  4 года назад +1

      Short Answer: Yes but entertainment accountants are often called business managers since they will be asked to do more than accountants do. Long Answer: I just recorded a 6min+ video on this. It will drop on ASL(Ask Sirr Love). Thanks for the question.

    • @PhaseVi
      @PhaseVi  4 года назад +2

      It depends on the stage in your career. As a new indie unsigned artist you - you have much more that 35-45% and should reinvest every penny until your revenue hits a sustainable number to pay expenses and support your team. This is usually about 8-10K/month. At this stage you can start to pay yourself and live extremely modest off the music. Basically your poor but doing what you love for a living. However, those investments should continuously grow and you'll be doing 15-20k and living off a doctors salary while paying the expenses and team and making music. It's a slow grind. The key is to focus on money driven activities: Placements, streams/sales, merch/products/services, shows, & additional related hustles. At some point you can pursue deals to lighten the load but that's it's a whole different game.

      Technically you can. But its easier for a manager who has connections and relationships within the industry to call their friend than it is for you to call somebody and beg them for an opportunity with the other 50,000 people that want to be an artist.

    So pretty much you as a manager is steering your artist in the direction to make money and your taking 20% of that?

    • @PhaseVi
      @PhaseVi  7 лет назад +5

      Correct. Your job is to protect, consult, manage opportunities and situations, and whatever additional skill set you have. You get about 20% for that

    • @acharich
      @acharich 6 лет назад +1

      Phase Vi 💣💣💣
      In the UK, the main types (Business & Artist) are pretty much combined though, maybe except the Tour Manager (and sometimes excluding Assistant too..)
      So the minimum for managers here is like 20% & it goes up, usually depending on what they bring to the table..

    Why can’t I manage my self?

    • @brentdaniel2163
      @brentdaniel2163 6 лет назад +6

      you can, but the point of a manager is to take away the worries of the "making it" aspect of music. With a manager an artist can focus on being an artist, and not worry about getting that next gig, or paying this or that. A good manager should make sure the gigs are coming in and that everyone is getting paid. If you're doing both, you're taking away focus from both. So in simple terms, 50% at both, or 100% focus at one.

    Sucks to be an artist. Real money is made in songwriting. The talent is the least compensated. Shit sucks. Unless the artist is a composer/songwriter then they good. Other than that. You are fucked my friends.
