These dudes cross chain more than you do, I bet he was on his 54/40 ring set and you did not even realize it. Notice his cadence vs yours, now with 12 speed systems you can cross chain even more and not have issues with snapped chains. Cross chaining allows more power to be put down on the wheels instead of spinning, this is what Pantani ( 54-44 set) was doing this a long time ago. I use a 52-42 chain ring set since I am shorter it helps with less spinning up hills. One thing to notice is if they are pulling away from you at a slower pedal rotation they are clearly on smaller sprockets but more likely cross chaining. Remember now with Electronic Shifting you can also setup your shift points to cross chain on purpose, this creates smoother power acceleration without any FD chain rub noise, this also means less spinning if you don't have the cardio for the cadence of that spin rate.
Don't know who's advice your going off of but your height has no correlation to the number of teeth on the rings, bro. If you're short you should get short cranks, as that's what makes it more efficient. Ring size will feel the same regardless how tall you are, at the same power output levels.
@@louisyoko2723 Actually it does, shorter legs and if you have them built big you can take advantage of bigger rings to spin less, but you have to be cross chaining to get the advantage.
