Hi! We are the "older couple" you mention in the video! We didn't realize you were famous when we met on the trail. Savage Gulf is a tough loop, but the rock features and waterfalls made it worthwhile. We hauled and did it in 3 days. Love your honest feelings, we laughed because we said the same things at almost the exact same places.

From one no-hipped hiker to another (from another): socks! A girl I once met on a trail advised me to stuff socks between my hips and the hip-belt and it worked really well. I now have a pack that fits me better, but it's still a great trick for when I lose that bit of fat when hiking a lot haha.

I told you guys about the Savage Gulf years ago so it is great that you got to experience it. I think a few highlights ofthe park were not covered that being Greeter Falls and The Historic Stage Coach trail. Anyway, the Savage Gulf is just one of six areas that comprise the South Cumberland SP. A few have already mentioned The Fiery Gizzard Trail which is a must! If you want really large waterfalls that are close to the Savage Gulf then there is Fall Creek Falls (256 ft), Burgess Falls (130 ft), Virgin Falls (110 ft.) and several 50-90 footers.

    • @seaxofbeleg8082
      @seaxofbeleg8082 3 года назад +1

Greeter Falls is truly one of the highlights of Savage Gulf State Natural Area. It is a disappointment not to see it featured here. It is only 1.4 miles from Alum Gap Campsite (where Robby camped his first night there) to Greeter Falls. Then from Greeter Falls to Big-Creek Gulf Trail about 1.2 miles. It only would have added 2.6 miles.

Love the Robby solos. The best at talking to his audience authentically. What a well-cultivated skill! Great storytelling, too: Will he find the waterfall? Will he make it over the bridge? Will he ever make it to the camp? Those little moments of suspense, because we love Robby, keep us hooked. But, why is this in the "mini-episodes" category? It's a full feature, clearly. Just because the whole gang isn't there? Nonsense. Get an agent, Robbie. Do more.

1:04:13 - Your thoughts on expectations here are so spot on. I often find that I'm as tired in the last half mile of a 6 mile hike as I am in the last half mile of a 12 mile hike, because in both cases, I'm expecting to be almost done. Unexpected extra miles is a terrible feeling, especially when you're doing big miles. Awesome video!

Amazing! Thank you for your hard work, Robby! I've never heard of Savage Gulf before but it looks like someone smashed World's End in Pennsylvania with Transylvania County in North Carolina and threw in a bit of Red River Gorge! What a beautiful region wonderfully filmed! Oh, and I don't much care for those swinging bridges either.

Nice videogtaphy and narration of a cool trip.
Also, respect for crossing the bridges. As a kid growing up in East Tennessee swinging bridges were always a highlight when found.

I recently moved to Tennessee a few years ago, and Savage Gulf is one of my favorite spots. Really cool to see you hike and camp in the same places I've become quite familiar with. If you're ever in the area again, I highly recommended the Fiery Gizzard Trail. Thanks for another great upload guys.

When I went to Belmont back in the '90s one of my PE classes was backpacking and we did our "final" at Big South Fork. If you haven't tried it you should check it out it is spectacular.

Just to note that Ranger Falls goes directly underground. That’s why the creek bed was dry on the approach. The creek only flows when there’s been a lot of rain. It’s really amazing to see.

Whenever I think about giving up backpacking I watch a new video from Robby and suddenly I don’t think about giving up backpacking. Nicely done. Way to stay with it, this one was tough for sure.

I have watched your Timberline hike a few times. Now with Savage Gulf I have a new multiple watch video from you. You seem happy and lighthearted in this new video. I am always aware of all the extra steps you take to set up the tripod to capture walking segments. And you do it seamlessly. Thank you.

Yes. No wonder you have extra steps setting up the tripod so often. I’m fine with your hand held one camera most of the time. So beautiful there! Thanks for taking us along Robby!

I think you’re spot on Robby, about getting that feeling of being out in nature and connecting. It’s part of the human soul to be out there in the world. Probably a daunting and unfamiliar feeling to so many people unfortunately

Ha! I have been watching for years and as an early riser I could never understand how they would struggle to do 3 miles in a day... still in bed at 11am. Makes since now.
Robbie- I see that nice new tent, it is definitely time for a new bag and boots. “A pound on the feet is like ten on the back” and that pack has seen better days. You should try to get your pack to 20-22 lbs. makes a huge difference. And as you get older trekking poles are really nice

    That trudge is very familiar🤣
Love seeing the good and bad parts of backpacking
Edit: Also, I hope you've gotten a new pack since then! If you haven't, try going to an outfitter and having them specifically fit one to you. That could help with the slipping and potentially shave off like 4 lbs.

I loved this so much for every reason. And you are so funny. When you were so tired and still walked and climbed even extra to get all these beautiful shots and keep filming my body was hurting with you. Such dedication. It was worth it. This is a masterpiece. That place is stunningly beautiful, breathtaking like Linville Gorge and Falls in N.C. I hope you guys go there some day.
