      That was one of my favorite hikes ever. There is good reason why this is on the bucket list for so many backpackers. I could only fit in so many highlights in my video. It's a really special trail. Highly recommend for anyone looking to do a short backpacking trip. I definitely went at a great time, early September. Less trafficked, less bugs, and easier water crossings. Thanks for watching. Appreciate the kind words.

    Did it about 25 years ago....wonderful experience! I think we took an extra day....my gf at the time was new to back-country travel so we took it easy. I've done the Wonderland trail in '94 and the Round the Mountain trail in '93 so now I need to get to St. Helens!

    • @PacificNWHiker
      @PacificNWHiker  Месяц назад +1

      It is nothing short of a wonderful experience. Great decision to slow it down for your gf given she was new to backpacking. You absolutely must complete the Loowit trail around Helens to complete the full set of mountains. I have a video on that trail if it helps. I am thinking of doing Adams this year and maybe I'll do Eagle Creek which I can't believe I haven't done yet. Wonderland trail next year. I hope you get around to doing the Loowit trail. Let me know how it went.

      I went Labor Day week. Great weather. Only day 3 had clouds around Hood. There were so many crossings. I just showed a few. I did get my feet wet on one of them though. So beautiful! I'm thinking about doing that hike! Would you say it's easy or hard for a beginner hiker?

    • @PacificNWHiker
      @PacificNWHiker  27 дней назад +3

      @@sheenachong6078 Great question. For a beginner hiker I would go with someone. There are multiple river and creek crossings and some are more difficult than others to cross. Also depends on when you do this trail. If you go early summer the water crossings will be tougher because there is more snowmelt but if you go when I went (early September) the crossings are easier.
      As far as the trail, if you go clockwise like I did, the first 10 miles are a piece of cake. After that the next 20 miles will have some sections with serious elevation gain. This middle part of the trail is the hardest. Last 10 miles are easy (flat) except the last mile uphill back to the lodge.
      Most of the trail is easy to follow but there are sections that aren't so easy. So being with someone with good navigational skills is important. I would say it would be hard for a beginner hiker going alone but if you go with someone with experience and just do 10 miles per day, difficulty will be moderate but super fun.
      I also want to mention that your pack weight can make your hike easy or hard so don't go overboard packing. A heavy pack going uphill sucks.
      Overall, this trail is super beautiful and fun. There is good reason it is a bucket list hike for so many people. As a beginner, bring someone who has backpacked before and stick to 10 miles a day. You will have a blast. I have a video on all the gear I brought if that helps. Hopefully I answered your question.

      @PacificNWHiker  2 месяца назад

      @@javierperezvaldez I did this early September. Water crossings are easier and no mosquitoes. The weather was great.
