After a decompression accident his legs were left paralyzed, but since cave diving was his heart and soul he, together with a friend designed and build a submarine called Speleonaut, that allowed him to explore the depths of the Blauhöhle without functioning legs.

      @@BlueWorldTV @BlueWorldTV Hey Jonathan, would love to give you some input! I think you would absoluetely love the place. Good starting point is the beautiful, small town of Cala Gonone. You will find two bases there, which are suitable for cave diving (Base 1 & Protec Sardinia - for some reason I cannot post any links, there also awesome pictures on both websites which should give you a first glimpse of what the caves are like). All caves are entered from the ocean and at some point you have a halocline where they switch to fresh water. The water is super turqoise, which is due to a special species of algae living in the region. In general, you have five caves suitable for diving (Bel Torrente, Bue Marino, Cala Luna, Del Fico and Utopia), which are all (except Utopia) really shallow. Furthermore, in Bel Torrente you can find ancient monk seal bones, which are extinct in the Med by now. Also, there are dry passages in almost every cave meaning that you'll sometimes encounter curious tourists in there when you surface which is kinda funny! :D The dry passages are also worth a visit, because ancient people from the bronze age lived there and left behind their trails (paintings, etc.), which is really exciting!
      I think you would love it there!

    @BlueworldTV Awesome! Curious, how do the habs work with the gas being used? Do divers just sit there breathing off their reg or are they prepped with stage bottles?

    • @BlueWorldTV
      @BlueWorldTV  6 месяцев назад +1

      In those little habitats (upside-down water containers), the diver usually stays on the rebreather. The habitat is just about getting warm and being out of the water a little. Also allows you to have a snack and take the mask off for comfort. But there is no provision for refreshing the air/gas in the habitat so you need to stay on the rebreather.

    • @BlueWorldTV
      @BlueWorldTV  Год назад +1

      Yes, there most certainly is. I probably should have pointed that out in the video. They use stainless steel (!) guideline in this cave because the flow is so strong during the rainy part of the year that the water just rips traditional cave line right out. Unfortunately, that means that divers have to carry cutters that are capable of snipping the line in case of entanglement. Anton actually has something that could best be described as small bolt cutters on his rig.

    Another awesome video! Question, here you had 5 minutes of decompression. Do you find that a large group of divers skip the decompression times if they are say 10 minutes or less, or would you venture to guess most decompress no matter how short the interval is? As a very amateur diver who hasn't dived in years, I understand the importance, but I am curious how many people follow the rule as "to the t" as you and the crew do, like the 5 minute decompression we saw in this video. Thanks!

    • @BlueWorldTV
      @BlueWorldTV  Год назад

      Actually, I would say that the vast majority of divers are afraid of getting bent and do longer decompression than necessary (or safety stops on top of decompression, or safety stops even when no decompression is obligated). Slow ascents and safety stops are drilled into divers from the beginning. I don't know anyone that would intentionally skip a deco stop or even a safety stop.

    • @scouseflyer7242
      @scouseflyer7242 Год назад +1

      @Steve on the tech setup your cylinders are inverted so you can reach the valves, and you have manual add for O2 and Dil - on the rec setup the valves are pointing up (like in this video)

    • @scouseflyer7242
      @scouseflyer7242 Год назад +1

      @Steve No problem, sharing is caring! So Poseidon is pretty unique in that it has a ‘rec’ mode. Most CCRs are tech only so would confuse most people who have ever dove a CCR. The rec version of the Poseidon requires much less training and there is no ability to fly the unit manually, in rec mode your only option is to bailout. That’s why I was curious using that config for cave diving, I’d like the option to stay on the loop as long as possible 😂

      All of our cave diving vides contain a warning (this one has it at 0:25). But honestly when you think about it, we make scuba diving videos. Scuba diving without proper training, even diving on a reef, is dangerous. If you go by that criteria, probably half the videos on RUclips should come with a warning. Just because I watch a video of a guy in a wingsuit jumping off a cliff on RUclips doesn't mean I'm qualified to do it. And if I did go and do it without training, it's not the fault of the guy who made the video! People should realistically understand that RUclips videos are for entertainment, not training. We specifically DO NOT make our videos to seem like training, because they are not. I'm not qualified to teach scuba, nor is RUclips a place to learn such a thing. We have scuba instructors for that!

    I am really curious about those decompression bells. I wanna know how does somebody pass the time sitting in one of those for twelve hours, and how they are kept full of oxygen. And what kind of work are they doing down there that requires such long decompression afterwards? Just exploring?

    • @BlueWorldTV

      Typically the person in there stays on his/her rebreather (doesn't breathe the air inside). The air inside is just for warmth, and maybe having a chance to sip a hot chocolate.

    I'm curious why this cave didn't appear to have a guide line in most places, at one point it looked like there was one but for most of the dive I couldn't find one. My guess is that it's because of how little silt is in the cave or the more likely guess that there is one but it's just not visible in the video

    • @BlueWorldTV
      @BlueWorldTV  Год назад

      It had a guideline. In fact, they use stainless steel guideline in this cave because the flow is so string during the wet season that regular cave line gets destroyed. Anton has to carry wire cutters just in case of entanglement.

  • @jessegador
    @jessegador Год назад

    Are there no dive reels in there?

    • @BlueWorldTV
      @BlueWorldTV  Год назад

      In some of these Portuguese case, the "line" is actually stainless cable. The reason is because in the rainy season, the flow is so powerful that it just rips conventional cave line right out of the cave. So Anton has to carry cable cutters in case someone gets caught. However, it's a lot harder to get caught in a steel cable than a line.

      @@BlueWorldTV @BlueWorldTV you gotta try it, tho you need your own team and equipments to dive since diving industry here is pretty immature but also you can bump into some of the rare species to dive with since most of the places are still unexplored. For rare species I know of are Whale sharks in the coast, Dugong population, Irrawaddy river shark and river dolphins. Forrest Galante travels here a couple of times in search of new or endangered species as well. I'm hoping a decent documentary would come out about some local species we don't know of since we aren't quite capable to research and exploring ourselves yet 😬
