@@everhirstseyt2667 They were Teller's hands from the start. He had some type of fake red nail on his left hand. He takes it off ~2:20-2:30 when he brings his hands together.
Robin Lee that was the real teller. When Penn was doing the opening monologue after showing them sitting, teller walked on-stage off camera and got ready.
At 2'18, the left hand still has red nail polish. At 2'21'' it's gone I really would love to figure out why. I first thought that Teller had gloves to mimick Penn's hand, and something hidden inside. But that does not seems to make sense, there is no way to remove them here. I wonder whether it's not just they had to do a second shoot, and didn't prepare as well
I suspect some tv editing work, because as and after Teller removes the Penn mask, the watch on the left wrist, and the rings on the right hand are missing. Fingernail polish, too, I think.
They DO look like Teller’s hands. The red fingernail must have been glued on, and fallen off during one of the sleight of hand moves. The face was kept in shadow, so it’s really difficult to tell if it was a mask
"Come in close, closer, because the more you think you see... the easier it is to fool you." Bro, you focus so much attention to the hands that you'll think "HA I got this, that's not Penn's hands"... but then. Dam that's good

that's funny. 😎 i noticed at the beginning of the curtain routine Penns' face and head didn't look quite right but i just figured must be the lighting etc. then i was like hmmm, actually looks like someone else and again i was like "nah, my mind is playing tricks". so at the end i was surprised because i had already submitted to the idea it was Penn up there lol. and when there were two Penns i didn't even realize the other one is teller. i just thought there was some big look alike guy with make up. 😎 i also noticed Penns' hands didn't look right. too small and smooth. but i dismissed that too.
I knew from the very beginning, that it was not Penn jillette behind the screen, the hands with a big giveaway. Pens hands are bigger and that leaves only one other person with small hands. His partner teller. And yes I knew from the very beginning and I'm not going to say how I know
This was a very clever trick, and beautifully executed, but I do have to point out a couple of things... 1.) I totally understand that wearing that mask would make it harder to see what you were doing, but lifting that glass of water out of the hole in the curtain and putting it in place behind the magazine page was by FAR the sloppiest sleight of hand I've ever seen from Teller. For the record, I'm not saying he did it poorly, because he didn't. All I'm saying is that it wasn't as smooth and as perfect as Teller almost always is. That particular move in this particular trick was easy to spot is all I'm trying to say. 2.) When Penn gives an intro that long you can bet that he has an ulterior motive (like giving Teller the time he needs to make it backstage and come through the black curtain). 3.) During that intro monologue Penn made it a point to say that he wanted to do "hand magic" or "close-up magic" several times, and then finished the monologue with "...so please, just watch my hands," which said to me that the magic was happening elsewhere. Again, I'm not saying they did anything poorly. I have incalculable respect for both Penn and Teller. I'm a huge fan, so I'm not throwing shade...just callin' it like I sees it, as it were.
@@everhirstseyt2667 I actually watched the video back a couple times because I had that same question. I don't see how the swap from Penn to Teller could have happened at any time other than immediately (unless it was done off camera), so I would think it was Teller...and since the painted ring fingernail is something of a trademark for Penn, I knew it wasn't something they would overlook (by Teller using his own hands without the nail painted), but at a couple points during the performance, I couldn't see the nail polish. But, having watched it a few times, I think the red was there the whole time, I just couldn't see it because of the movement, background and video quality. As for the hands doing the trick having a painted nail and Terller not having one...I think there were gloves attached to the ends of the sleeves of the jacket he was wearing. It's only a quick glimpse because he lets it fall as he's pulling his arms out of the sleeves, but I caught sight of something at the very end of the sleeves that looked like fabric that was turned inside-out from him pulling his hands out. To be perfectly honest, though, it is entirely possible that I misjudged that part of the illusion. I definitely could be wrong, but that's really about my only guess, for whatever it's worth. Cheers.
@@everhirstseyt2667 ...forgot to mention, another reason I have for thinking they were glove-style copies of Penn's hands is that during the trick, the right hand has copies of Penn's rings on it, but after the reveal, Teller isn't wearing them. My conclusion is it's Teller in the creepy, squinty mask RIGHT FROM THE START 1:38.START Also it's to much work if real Penn had to move unseen from curtain to stage side.

Honestly I wasn’t that impressed by this. It was very obvious (to me) that the person behind the curtain wasn’t Penn. The mask wasn’t precise enough and the hands were too small and well-manicured. Then when the red nail was suddenly missing I knew something was amiss. At 3:03 you can see the fake red nail sitting on the floor next to the bowl of water. It was sort of a sloppy performance, considering it’s Penn and Teller.

It was beyond obvious it wasn’t him and I was waiting for Penn to confront a look-a-like. Well, they fooled me. I wonder if there was a cut between Alison and the trick being performed.
I know, the final tear was placed on top of the stack and not under. If it was under, although it would have looked suspicious, the first stack of torn up page would have at least resembled the switch page
I feel bad, because I spotted the ruse almost immediately: those weren't Penn's hands. No polished nail on one hand. I like watching magic for the spectacle, I'm not analyzing the action... but the hands were a dead giveaway.
Teller's slight of hand is not that great. You can clearly see every moment where he either makes something appear or disappear. Didn't even close the gap properly where the glass came from. this might have been a fun illusion, but I've seen much better sleight of hand magic.
It was done in a very pleasing and interesting manner but probably the worst sleight of hand I ever witnessed on Penn & Teller show, by any performer. It is a bit sad because I have so much respect for them. It is possible that they are best as judges and teachers now, instead of performing the tricks.
