Breakdown of the force. 1:45 Back-pulling 5S from the deck. 1:51 Ready for back-pulling JD while Brokeback joke. ?:?? Taking 8H from the deck. I have no idea. 1:42 looks suspicious. 2:02 Shuffle while keeping 3 cards at the top. 2:06 Alyson starts dealing one-by-one from top, so the 3 cards are at the bottom. 2:21 Spreading leads to sneak-pushing 3 cards to the top. 2:25 Taking the JD from the top. 2:36 Timing for 5S is a bit off. :)
When you get to 3:37 you can find when he switched decks. It's like an eyeblink when he has his jacket and her elbow lined up just right -- and he does it left-handed! But the JD was not forced. He makes that card travel a lot, and he could've done it with any card she picked. Only the 8 and 5 are forced.
This is so much better having seen the first two Fool Us tricks. It's deja vu and something completely new at the same time. Lots of people can do tricks that are entertaining and that I can't explain but something about how Shawn does tricks always invokes just such a pure sense of wonder, joy, and a level of excitement that makes me slap the arm of my chair before the big reveal because I know what's coming and I'm totally blown away. I'm so happy right now.
I’m so glad I found this on Shawn’s official account, because that means he might see this comment: Shawn, having become such a fan of magic and of so many magicians, it’s easy to get cynical as I start to pick acts apart more and see if I can identify the moves and figure out how they’re done. This time, I found myself smiling with childlike wonder, at the whimsicalness of it all, at the callbacks to previous performances, and the amount of magic you gave the performance completely independent of any sleight of hand or illusion. Thank you for making magic so much fun.
Thanks for the kind comments. It was fun recreating both the effects and mixing them together while not using any of the techniques in the same way as before. Glad you had fun, that was my purpose...

Excellent performance, Shawn! To address an earlier posted question ... I have attended the live Fool Us performances (only as an audience member .. don't be overly impressed) ... and the time P&T have to discuss the effect is barely edited, sometimes not at all. They walk on stage and take their seats, and what you see on the televised version is pretty tight with the in-person experience. We are coached when to applaud, and very short set-up breaks are taken between each act to prep the stage and requirements for the next performance. Sometimes a re-do is needed for the filming of the introductions, and the audience volunteer selection is done immediately prior to each respective act. The choices seemed very fair and random, but participants are taken back stage and given some instructions .... this is never shown on the televised version. When we attended the Merry Fool Us filming, several audience members were escorted behind the scenes and returned with festive, holiday sweaters. They were then "picked at random" from our audience, but this was accepted as fair by the audience since they were just some regular fans that volunteered and were chosen moments ago. I recommend the audience experience to everyone, so do not miss the opportunity if it ever presents itself to you.
"I decided I'm gonna do both." I thought you were gonna do a trick with similar elements, but then you recited the exact same opening of the card trick, and I went, "Oh Shawn, you're just trolling them at this point. And I love it."
It amazes me how Shawn almost makes you forget that you are watching a performance. I felt like I was standing right next to him, watching him do close up 😊
@@ShawnFarquhar I simply adore your style of performance. Just on Fool Us I have seen plenty of grand illusions, performed by over the top characters and yet I find myself occasionally coming back and rewatching you giggling to yourself while you fool Alyson first and Penn and Teller second. Come to think of it, this might be the only performance I have seen where Penn and Teller were fooled at the exact same time the audience was. It truly is inspiring how you manage to turn the big stage into a small, comfy living room, while performing amazing tricks that don't need any spectacle to be entertaining. This is real magic to me ❤️
Shawn, I absolutely loved the first card trick you did on Penn & Teller, and I highly appreciate how smooth your moves are during the tricks and how you move quickly, not treating the audience like a bunch of idiots who won't be able to follow along. Thanks for performing some truly incredible magic tricks!
It doesn't matter that didn't fool them, this was my favorite act EVER by my favorite fool us Magician ever, I LOVED THE REFERENCES SO much , the Deja vu was amazing 😂😂
Loved all his showings, but unfortunately none fooled me. However, still very entertaining and time very well spent. Also @Shawn Farquhar your fluidity is next level.
All these years and I sometimes go back to watch the other 2 times Shawn fooled them... Still have no idea how he did it, even searching a lot in the web. I was thrilled when I saw there was a third video, wouldn't miss it for the world.
I like how giddy you sound when performing! There's so much energy, but it's not overbearing -- it's the kind of energy that sweeps us along for the ride. Excellent performer!
It may be the third time he's been on the show, but he's probably the only person with big enough balls to do his previous tricks (plural!) again! baller gentleman!
The little detail with the flap and the one card (joker) there was just marvelous, It certainly adds another layer for the spectator to think about and it makes even more magical! I'm a magician here that just loves your work!
I forget that Alyson wasn’t there when he did the card trick, so all this banter is actually new to her. This is so awesome. I love Shawn, he’s such a performer
Having had the pleasure of seeing Shawn live on one of those cruise ships many years ago, it's clear he hasn't lost a step and might have gotten even sharper, being able to mash these tricks up and keep them moving at such a crazy pace. Always impressive!
Shawn, Shin, Paul Gertner and Eric Mead are my top bunch. Each have flawless technique, but more importantly, perfect flow. Every misdirection is under the perfect guise of "just normal movement".. And each of them have their own unique personality style that integrates SO well with the rest of the the act.
The three top cards that were "randomly" selected and were the core of the whole trick, were put there after the trade. As you can see in 2:19, he grabs them from the inside of his jacket and gently places them there. When you know these cards, the rest of the trick is pretty easy to explain. (as much as I want to believe in magic, there was no chance that the second or third card were figures, like jack or whatever, because no page number has figures:P, so the trick should start from the selection of the cards)
I'm pretty sure the three cards are already at the top of the deck in the very beginning, when the deck is still sealed. From there it's not too hard to keep them under control.
Only the 8 and 5 had to be forced. He could make whatever card Allison picked move to the book, and he could place the book page in whichever spot in deck order it had to be to replace that card. (If he'd turned that deck around, we'd've seen the jack of diamonds still in new deck order, next to the book page he'd just placed there.) But the book page had to be forced, and for that he needed to force the 8 and 5.
You, my friend, are something else. Magic is not only a slight of hands and creativity. You truly deserve the "Great Performer" comment made by Penn. It is truly what you are. Your energy and smile mesmerized me, and please continue to do so. You are one of a kind.
If you haven't seen his 1st and 2nd times being on P&T then you'll have to watch those 2 first before watching his 3rd appearance cause it'll make much more sense.
First thing I'll do after the Covid-19 restrictions are lifted is to book a ticket to your show in Vancouver! I had no idea you had one in town. Can't wait to see you perform up close.
NOOO I wanted that happy ending at the end of the trilogy; but the hero died. maybe playing your chances a little too close there, shawn. you are a fantastic performer. just listening you talk is magic in itself, seeing how you brilliantly arrange your presentations, that i almost don't need to see the trick. keep up and god bless you in your continued success.

Even without fooling them, you're actually my favorite magician to watch, just because of that one card trick. Love the mashup with the book this time. Well done, all around!
The show is not about fooling them. It's TV so it's just scripted if Penn and Teller knows the trick or not. It's just a extra entertainment-feature. Like audiences pressing buttons or audiences clapping or laughing fake. You are watching to hired performers just to be a commercial tv show. It's not about winning a ticket for Vegas it's just marketing for visiting Vegas.
Damn, most of the time rewinding it you can clearly see when he does all the things and switches. And yet, it's SO much all at once that you lost track even if you rewind. Splendidly done.
I know fooling is usually the main objective, but this felt like you were trying to have some fun and scare them first. Your act is so much fun to watch.
It's great to see you back on this show! You're definitely one of my favorite magician/entertainers I've come across. I also love the fact that Penn explains in code so that the magician trying to fool them will understand but the ignorant audience, such as myself, stays in the dark keeping the magic . . . magic.
Wow. This one is absolutely insane! I’ve watched nearly all Fool Us episodes and I think this one MIGHT just be the most flabbergasting of all! (And look at Teller’s reaction haha!)
Shawn, I have to say, having watched nearly all of these on RUclips, I think your act is my favorite. Not just for the tricks, but the delivery. Spot on. (This is coming from a non-magician simple fan of entertainment)
Hi Matthew, thank you very much for the kind words. Your opinion, as a non-magician simple fan of entertainment, has the highest level of importance to me...
I think this is the first time that my jaw was dropped by the realisation of what the trick was before it happened. The moment he went back to the deck, I was like "Wait... no way". Outstanding
Brilliant Brilliant Act!!! Also incredibly brave to come back and mix in original effects again. I dont think anyone else has even dared think about that. I thought it was genius.
So fun especially after watching your first and second act; so well done and it's great to see how you cared for your family and them you that y'all work together -- gave it that extra heartwarming touch on top of such a fun performance! Thank you for making and presenting such great tricks!
Great illusion Shawn! I saw you perform this for my mother, father and I at the Daytona Magic Convention in Florida. It was such a pleasure to meet and talk to you. My mother was a huge fan. I just wanted to tell you both of my parents passed away (my mom 3 years ago, and my father this year, stricken with grief he took his own life). Seeing this trick again really touches me and brought back wonderful memories of trying to replicate it at home with my parents.
I'm so sorry for your losses. I lost my Mom a few weeks ago and the pain is strong. I find my peace in my memories of the good times and happy my magic helps a little for you as well.
Penn: "Fool us three times, we take you into the parking lot and kick your ass." Shawn: "I think they've got a pretty good handle on enough of it that I'm gonna run." Why do I feel like he said that because he didn't want to visit the parking lot with Penn?
I have watched and rewatched this effect probably 15 times in a row now, piecing things together here and there and stitching up loose ends. And while I still haven't even come close to getting a grasp on what's happening, boy have I gotten a masterclass on scripting, pacing and cadence, build-up and pay-off, and storytelling. I love this routine and the two before it, so very much. You're an amazing performer, Shawn, and the same routine in any other hands just wouldn't be nearly as involving, entertaining, or as captivating. Thank you!
My grasp so far is that the selected card must have been forced somehow, which means the shuffling is fake (or there is a swap I didn't notice). But then I don't know how the word "flap" fits in. ... Flappy Bird? 🤔 Neh.
I know magic isn't "real". I know what "sleight of hand" means. I love card tricks, coin tricks, and even apparently "book" tricks (didn't know that was a thing). I always want to be fooled and am saddened when I see how simple (sometimes) the trick is done. Let magic be real! I may be 50, but when I watch you I am 9 or 10 all over again!
In a way, "simple" magic can be the most impressive. It's when they put tremendous skill and effort into the mundane acts of picking something up and putting it in your pocket. Like when P&T do the cups and balls with transparent cups, telling you every single thing they do as they do it. Knowing how it's done can make it more impressive.
I keep coming back to these videos because Shawn is just so damn endearing. This man deserves to have a show every bit as big as P and T's. Dude is a legend.

He gets "busted" but wins with free marketing. Outstanding presentation all around. I can watch it over and over again without it getting old. Laugh at the jokes every time!
@@anonymoussecret5948 to be honest I think I may have fooled them as they seem to have thought I used the old methods from my previous appearances when in fact I used none. Absolute favorite part has to be at around 4:30 when you can almost literally see Teller's brain tearing apart at the pacing of this trick. "I've already done it, take a look!", he says... I really love your humor and the way you sound during your performance, you seem genuinely excited and passionate about doing magic. Even if you didn't fool them a third time, you still put on an incredibly entertaining show. Well done!
I love that in the first appearance, you make a deja vu joke, in the second you make a different deja vu joke and the third is a combination of tricks and patter from the first two, it makes it like one big extended trick or performance. Just one part of your excellent showmanship and style and patter

If you slow it down you can see him start to move the bottom 3 on the fan, but unfortunately the camera cuts before you can really see what he does.
@@ShawnFarquhar That is pretty gutsy trying to go with the same trick twice, not to mention many magician already tried to reveal your tricks in first and second show. Are that also part of your plan?
@@mrleon5607, they are essentially the same looking tricks/effects, but in reality, I did not use any of the previous methods. In fact, the majority of the coded guesses they made were way off base. @@ShawnFarquhar Well, hope you love this as well because you are the reason that I don't do magic.
Shawn is such a class act, I enjoy watching his magic the most.

The three top cards that were "randomly" selected and were the core of the whole trick, were put there after the trade. As you can see in 2:19, he grabs them from the inside of his jacket and gently places them there. When you know these cards, the rest of the trick is pretty easy to explain. (as much as I want to believe in magic, there was no chance that the second or third card were figures, like jack or whatever, because no page number has figures:P, so the trick should start from the selection of the cards)
notice how he says “there’s an 8 and a 5” but says the 5 without even having seen it lol
Hey Triainas, I love your solution. I can assure you though I did not add any cards to the deck from my suit. Pinky Swear!
@@ShawnFarquhar glad you replied!and i have to admit that you are a hell of a showman!ok,so.....YOU FOOLED ME!!:p
Plot twist:
He lost on purpose by admitting that Penn & Teller know his tricks but they dont which ultimately fooled them for the rest of their lives
Also he didn't have his ass kicked on the parking lot
You, my friend, are something else. Magic is not only a slight of hands and creativity. You truly deserve the "Great Performer" comment made by Penn. It is truly what you are. Your energy and smile mesmerized me, and please continue to do so. You are one of a kind.

Penn: "Fool us three times, we take you into the parking lot and kick your ass."
Shawn: "I think they've got a pretty good handle on enough of it that I'm gonna run."
Why do I feel like he said that because he didn't want to visit the parking lot with Penn?
Given how angry Penn kept getting after getting fooled, I wouldn't be surprised.
I love the attitude and interaction between all 3 of them
I really liked that you paid tribute to the first two tricks you did on fool us. Very cool trick and I loved the performance
Can we talk about how his pun is amazing and with amazing flow
I have watched and rewatched this effect probably 15 times in a row now, piecing things together here and there and stitching up loose ends. And while I still haven't even come close to getting a grasp on what's happening, boy have I gotten a masterclass on scripting, pacing and cadence, build-up and pay-off, and storytelling. I love this routine and the two before it, so very much. You're an amazing performer, Shawn, and the same routine in any other hands just wouldn't be nearly as involving, entertaining, or as captivating. Thank you!
Thanks, I'm glad you liked it and more importantly are learning from it as well.
Magic is absolutely real
In a way, "simple" magic can be the most impressive. It's when they put tremendous skill and effort into the mundane acts of picking something up and putting it in your pocket. Like when P&T do the cups and balls with transparent cups, telling you every single thing they do as they do it. Knowing how it's done can make it more impressive.
