Terrible tragedy of the loss of Eric Clapton's 4 yr old son is the basis of this song. Conor Clapton fell from the 53rd floor. The window was mistakenly left unlocked by a maintenance person doing repairs to the apartment.

Because he wears his heart not just on his sleeve, but on his entire body for that one. You can see as well as feel the sadness, the exhaustion, the despair. It makes you ache for the person that feels that way.

Sadly Eric Clapton wrote the song for tribute and LOVE to his baby son who crawled out a city apartment window ledge and fell to his death. No greater pain than that to a parent. Bitter sweet then, but, moving and haunting melody I am so inspired by each time I hear it. GBjj
Yes if you don't know the story that goes along with this song you need to check it out because Eric Clapton lost his either three or four year old son fell out of a 54 story apartment building
