I also appreciate you putting the exact quotes and articles from the developers, in their own words, which explains to us why this game is so neutered. They are so afraid of offending anyone, none of their writing or jokes hit. This is why they removed things like diIdos, BDSM, changed RimJobs, and Freckle Bitches to FB, etc
And whoever the hell is going to get upset over a car customization place being called "Rim Job" (Which is infinitely more clever a joke then anything this reboot offers), is NEVER touching a SR game.

No my friend, they weren't afraid of offending anyone. They intentionally did this to Saints Row to spread their vile political poison and it's going to happen to GTA next. :(
Its them being college students trying to pay off student loans by trying to be wanna be gangstas that sold me on not getting this game. Hell in Saints' row 1 I'm pretty sure the only reason your character joined the Saints in the first place was to have protection form 2 of the other gangs that were currently in an active turf war over your home which hits as more realistic and believable than the horse manure that this reboot is trying to peddle
@@MetalForBones You are right I guess I conflated them talking about student loans constantly but the vibe I got from the characters was "we are fresh out of college all of this is bullshit" which just makes me cringe
It's funny how the original Playa/Boss basically got roped into becoming the biggest murderous psycho by chance. You're just walking around when a gang war breaks out and you get almost caught in the cross fire. Before being saved and offered a chance to put an end to it. Meanwhile in the Soy Reboot they treat being in gang like a 9-5 minimum wage job to pay bills and rent. Like what?

The thing is Saints Row 1-4 never did punch down, not to memory, if they ever targeted a specific group it was comedy that was punching up (Making fun of Corporate suits, satirizing the cops, satirizing shitty TV and ads, etc) but most of the humor was just crass and a bit slap stick
Exactly and they're all commie le capitalism bad yet they're charging $99.95 AUD (68.85 USD) for the game and have been known to release so much unnecessary paid DLC. They're their own corporate greed enemy in this game. And I have been a huge fan of the series and long time member on the official forums since SR2. The subreddit is disgusting right now.
I don't understand why game developers are so worried about certain players getting so offended. There are games I've played in the past that offended me in some way or another and I get offended, then get over it. Developers should stop seeing people as snowflakes and should just make games that offend EVERYBODY, there is a reason South Park has been going on so long.
SR actually avoided using racist, or bigoted jokes as edgy humor. So the series always did punch up, but for some reason the new director just ignorant to all of how modestly progressive the games were for their genre, to ignore that and then say the games were too edgy then and santize it, instead of just having limits to the obvious. Is it edgy to joke about your sex life? Sure but its not bigoted to do it. They just made jokes about sub-culture or lifestyles adults could relate to. Now they're focusing on wanting kids to like it.
Even the soundtrack from GTA Liberty City Stories and its prequel Vice City Stories is vastly superior. Even further back the first Vice City and San Andreas’s soundtrack is more sublime in its music hands down than Saints Row.
Getting ran over and shot is legitimately terrifying in Saints row 2. You can be full health with all stats increases from activities and a car ramming you into a wall or off a highway can insta kill you. Definitely kept you moving and dodging.
When I noticed they removed the gore, intense violence and strong language that right there was a huge red flag also the new *Saints* are a joke with them being college kids who are being gang members just to pay off student dept while the old saints especially the boss and Johnny gat even the other gangs from saints row 2 are the type of people who you don’t not want to mess with but these clowns aren’t Intimidating at all and they can easily get wiped off the map without any effort. This is why saints row 2 was and still is the best in the series but this is the new cyberpunk 2077. Thank god I saved my money because games nowadays are just unfinished and rushed for money
A really funny subtle joke is that the boss in 2 literally wakes from a coma in prison and thinks: "Time to break out of here with this dood and slaughter the entire prison population at the same time." @@BackyardFullOfPigs Exactly! We have nothing against female protagonists (Lara Croft is a classic one, for example). The issue comes when the character is there only to be rubbed against your face. It's like a FPS character being all "special ops" and "badass" and "I could kill rambo with my bare hands", it just becomes obnoxious. Look at Duke Nukem Forever for a game series that goes from beloved to hated due to how annoying it is. Also the three tags is basically an elevator pitch; imagine removing literally any identity of your game/story just to specify that you're playing as a female. Is everything else worth that little? even if the game is heavily story focused and all about the character, wouldn't those be more interesting tags to use?
Good video. It's a shame that they saw the feedback, delayed the game to improved it, but also double down on the characters that were basically dead on arrival. I feel bad for the voice actors because they're actually decent. It's the directing and dialogue that ruins the immersion. I'm not expecting relatable zoomers with Hollywood TV/Netflix dialogue. I'm looking for antisocial murderers getting into some guerilla gang warfare. Volition has been playing it safe lately and seems like a trend with a lot of other devs. As an OG fan it truly crushes my soul because they took this direction mostly out of fear of being too controversial and looking like GTA. I hope publishers and developers learn how to read a room after this. I believe in creative freedom, but if 90% of YOUR fanbase is telling you something is WRONG, maybe listen to them. Not fight back and double down on this cringe induced aneurysm. I'll play this when it goes on sale. I salute you day one buyers biting the bullet for everyone. Also, I heavily disagree with ATCQ - Left My Wallet in El Segundo being bad. Just doesn't fully fit in the game. I think they added it because of the desert setting.
Not to mention, that most gang members are in their late teens to mid twenties, so if they were wanting to aim marketing towards the current demographic, they didn't really need to change the characters at all. The boss was like 19 in the first game lol. They could have just made a more modern gang type of game, and they probably would have sold even more with the current generation than they are right now. 😂

What a disappointment this game turned out to be, it's like Volition games fired everybody who worked on the old Saints Row/ Red Faction games and hired a bunch of new people that have no idea what Saints Row is about So they watched a couple of hours of gameplay videos from the previous games and we're probably very offended by the old games with the violence and the jokes aka snowflake people so they completely changed everything and this is what we got very sad, If I had to guess either the studio is going to close down because of this garbage game or two you won't see a new Saints Row game for many many years. RIP Volition games.

Remember the motive in the OG? Rampant gang violence was getting people killed in Saint's Row. Julius set up the Saints as a buffer against them because the SPD was worthless. Your character gets caught up in the violence and joins up for reasons the player is free to imagine. You quickly secure Saint's Row and Julius decides to take the fight to the other gangs. The Saints are portrayed as idealistic noble criminals. This gradually proves wrong as the Saints take over various gigs and prove just as bad. In the end, Julius tries to pull the plug.

It's almost like the story was written by 2020+ writers. Who have zero shred of creative fibers in them. Who pretend to be saints but behind closed doors, they're horrible people. They went in hard to satisfy the twitter hivemind by takign away all the fun, all the risque content. Everything. Then shoved in your DiversityTM character cast, included a lot of 'fucks' in the dialogue and couple pop culture references. That's what qualifies for writing, character design and motivations. Sixty dollar game btw.
i was hoping to see one continued from the fourth one - which i know many didn't like that - but i loved all the characters. johnny, kenzie, matt, pierce, etc.
I remember those first two Saints games. Shit got surprisingly fucked up and dark in the narrative. Outside the story things could get more wacky than Wile E. Coyote levitating a moment before the long plunge down some ravine. Back then Volition had to compete with GTA only without the budget, and while the competish seemed more friendly on both sides than anything else it was clear that Saints Row was aware of the situation. So, they played up both ends of the silly/serious spectrum as far as they could to stand out and that shit worked. Now, no one can stand for anything and everything is pointless, which I gotta say doesn't make for a very compelling package. Just boil up some water real hot and throw in a couple pieces of plain sliced bread and get the full Saints Row 4 experience without spending the cash money.
It feels like the developers hasn’t seen the sunlight since 2010. The writing is so outdated, I get the feeling people from 2010 will think the writing is cringe as well.

7:52 That NEVER MADE SENSE. What the hell were they thinking?? They gave the one character with some semblance and turned him into a Saturday morning villain. With the dumbest reason no less. Not ‘You arrested me’.
Like seriously, I remember every gang leader from saints row 2. What they did to me, what I did to them, and how I killed them. A lot of that stuff was something out of a Tarantino movie by how impactful it was. All I need to mention to a saints row 2 player is "graveyard" and they will fricken know what I'm talking about. Saints row 2022? I barely remember your own gang members.
I loved the Bad Ending in Saints Row 3. It showed that Killbane and the Boss weren't so different, and both of them were total psychopaths that pretend to be normal when the public is watching. And in the bad ending, you let a shit ton of your friends die, just to get revenge on Killbane, only for them kill to not even be satisfying. And then your character let's loose and goes full Psychotic Warlord mode, just like Killbane.
Want to know something crazy? Volition basically had what would've been the next theme or schtick with a new Saints Row game: *Time Travel* At the end of SR4, The Boss is told that the Zin Empire has access to time travel technology, which meant that the survivors could do just about anything, like saving the Earth from Zinyak or even just f*cking around with time travel - and by doing the latter, they'd incur the wrath of interdimensional beings who view the Saints as enemies for blatantly screwing around with time travel. One thing leads to another, both sides are at war, and it's up to the Boss to decide the fate of it all. I'm no writer, no did I ever go to school to become one... but _that_ right there? *_That_* would've been a leagues better Saints Row game.
I've tried writing time travel and it's tricky, it's not very easy to actually write for. The less timelines and areas you travel (like back to the future) the less inconsistencies and history you need to look into and things you need to keep consistent. Look at Sly Cooper 4 as a great example of what I'm talking about. The more characters and events you need to keep track of; the harder it is to write time travel.
Literally, imagine how badass it would have been if the entire "Reboot" part was made shit intentionally, and then towards the end you switch to the REAL Boss, and annihilate the Reboot Saints, and then play the rest of the game as your old character.
I'm kind of amazed that the ending didn't get more criticism, I think it was so pretentious that it just didn't make sense to most players. The ending was saying "See the bad guy? That's you for liking this game, wanting a group of instant friends to spend time with makes you a psychopath. These people would never be friends with someone who does what you like doing in this game." The writers literally hated the old saints row and wanted to deliberately ruin the shit out of this one. The company should be suing the shit out of them for deliberately sabotaging the project
For a video with 11k views at the time of writing this comment this is the one video we need to describe how ridiculous this game is. It has plenty of language and toplessness in it. I don't recall any other sants row game have uncensored titties in them
I also appreciate you putting the exact quotes and articles from the developers, in their own words, which explains to us why this game is so neutered. They are so afraid of offending anyone, none of their writing or jokes hit. This is why they removed things like diIdos, BDSM, changed RimJobs, and Freckle Bitches to FB, etc
and Freckle Bitches has been in the series forever…
And whoever the hell is going to get upset over a car customization place being called "Rim Job" (Which is infinitely more clever a joke then anything this reboot offers), is NEVER touching a SR game.
Wait they changed freckle bitches to facebook?
It's like the current day Left saw how the religious Right in the 90's were censoring and sanitizing 'sinfulness' in games, movies, etc and said "hold my soy latte".
@@MetalForBones yeah im sure its believable these guys are gang members
It's funny how the original Playa/Boss basically got roped into becoming the biggest murderous psycho by chance. You're just walking around when a gang war breaks out and you get almost caught in the cross fire. Before being saved and offered a chance to put an end to it.
Meanwhile in the Soy Reboot they treat being in gang like a 9-5 minimum wage job to pay bills and rent. Like what?
@@MetalForBones They are also college students trying to pay off their student loans. That was literally their go to joke for the first 1 or 2 hour in the game.

The Volition and Saints I knew died with SR3.
@@kaydee66781 I don't know why everyone hates Saints Row 4... actually I do know, but I feel like I was one of the few people that liked the change. It was a good ending to the series explaining that the Boss was indeed just some psycho who nobody in their right mind should ever consider leadership material and our culture is just crazy enough to elect someone like that president... Yes, indeed the game was prophetic.
@@JohnnyThund3r Correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't the Boss rig the election with the help of King Ben? I think that's what they talk about at the end of the mission where you save Ben from Stillwater.
The bizarre idea that comedy is punching down, misses the spirit of jokes being comedy.
8:35 This part Aged like the Finest Wine
Getting ran over and shot is legitimately terrifying in Saints row 2. You can be full health with all stats increases from activities and a car ramming you into a wall or off a highway can insta kill you. Definitely kept you moving and dodging.

its sad that in the future our children may not know what a real video game looks like 🥲🥲🥲
When I noticed they removed the gore, intense violence and strong language that right there was a huge red flag also the new *Saints* are a joke with them being college kids who are being gang members just to pay off student dept while the old saints especially the boss and Johnny gat even the other gangs from saints row 2 are the type of people who you don’t not want to mess with but these clowns aren’t Intimidating at all and they can easily get wiped off the map without any effort. This is why saints row 2 was and still is the best in the series but this is the new cyberpunk 2077. Thank god I saved my money because games nowadays are just unfinished and rushed for money
A really funny subtle joke is that the boss in 2 literally wakes from a coma in prison and thinks: "Time to break out of here with this dood and slaughter the entire prison population at the same time." Seeing the lead female was the only thing most of us needed to see to know that it was going to be trash. It's really not hard these days to spot trash games because the virtue signaling on full-tilt display can be seen from orbit.
Yup. If any of the first 3 tags for a game on Steam say "Female Protagonist", I know full well to stay away from that game!
@gamephreak5 what, because it's a female protag you think it's trash?
@@riddell26if they can’t think of anything more interesting about their game for the first couple of tags than the gender of the protagonist it usually means a lifeless game. Most people don’t care about if they are playing a female character in a video game if the game itself is actually fun and if it’s fun it’s gonna have other tags than the gender of the protagonist
@@BackyardFullOfPigs Exactly!

In the end, Julius tries to pull the plug.

i was hoping to see one continued from the fourth one - which i know many didn't like that - but i loved all the characters. johnny, kenzie, matt, pierce, etc.
This video aged like Egyptian honey, Volition got shuttered 💀

That ending literally gave me goosebumps....bravo fleek!
We need an update to this ending since Volition is now dead.
Ah yes, taking the irreverance out of a series famous for irreverent humor... Can't imagine why this game failed so hard.
Want to know something crazy? Volition basically had what would've been the next theme or schtick with a new Saints Row game: *Time Travel*
At the end of SR4, The Boss is told that the Zin Empire has access to time travel technology, which meant that the survivors could do just about anything, like saving the Earth from Zinyak or even just f*cking around with time travel - and by doing the latter, they'd incur the wrath of interdimensional beings who view the Saints as enemies for blatantly screwing around with time travel.
It was good to hear a real saints soundtrack at the end there, even if only for a single fleeting moment...
I'm kind of amazed that the ending didn't get more criticism, I think it was so pretentious that it just didn't make sense to most players. The ending was saying "See the bad guy? That's you for liking this game, wanting a group of instant friends to spend time with makes you a psychopath. These people would never be friends with someone who does what you like doing in this game."
The writers literally hated the old saints row and wanted to deliberately ruin the shit out of this one. The company should be suing the shit out of them for deliberately sabotaging the project
Agents of Mayhem looks like DOOM Eternal compared to "Saints Row".
Comic timing; clean writing and a perfect delivery.
How is this channel under 50k subs?!
The algorithm. Mama Satan Susan does not appreciate free thinkers.
For a video with 11k views at the time of writing this comment this is the one video we need to describe how ridiculous this game is. As a fan since SR1 and an active member of the forums since SR2 times with lots of love and understanding of the franchise I'm disgusted with how bent over the subreddit is with this trash. They love saying SR has always been silly but they were only introduced during the Le FuNny pUrPlE dEeLdO times and they somehow assume that's the whole franchise. You actually understand everything and I absolutely love that.
Saints row 2 is a masterpiece and probably my favorite game of all time. The purple dildo is what drew me into the game when I was 12 or 13. And saints row 2 came with 3. I remember I discovered so much of my self when I realized how much I loved saints row 2 more than 3. I knew that this reboot wasn't gonna go backwards. But damn it didn't even go forwards. It's like the people who made this game have no knowledge of art or the counterculture or humanity whatsoever. What makes saints row good is that it always had more life and uniqueness than grand theft auto. Taking its personality away makes it just another gta knock off
@@dumluv it feels like a 'Just Cause' clone more than a 'GTA' clone at this point
@@budge3281 low budget Just Cause with Fortnite character models. Actually scratch it, this game was basically open world Fortnite, but even that'd be an insult because you can actually have more fun in Fortnite.
I bet gta6 will be just a shinier shit sandwich, these mental patients in the western gaming market have destroyed so many ip’s.
every company embracing the woke culture and ruining their games. I love Saints Row but I cannot defend this one because it's just not right.
