I am going to get to eat it tonight. The rainbows out of Lake Tahoe are some of the best I've ever had. I show the dark reddish pink filets in my Lake Tahoe Chimney Beach clip I shot about a month ago. Amazing!
Can’t stop watching your videos! I’m waking up early tomorrow to go to the Nevada side of Tahoe, but I have no idea where to fish. Keep the awesome content coming!👍
You can fish anywhere in the lake with either state license. The spot I went to today was easy and it's not far from the Border. I want to try the point I focused on at the end of the video next time. Chimney beach had some nice fish and I bet you could find an easier spot to deal with than I was at now that a lot of the people may have cleared out. Where ever you go, get there at the crack of dawn. I have had my most consistent fishing in this lake early morning so far. Lake Tahoe has delivered some of the best tasting rainbows I've ever had. At least the bigger ones. Beautiful meat. Good luck!
@@Fuzzy_Skunk Cool. I got 2 days off this week so I'm going to try to do something tomorrow as well. I think Lake Davis. We'll see if the next video is tomorrow!
Can you give us GPS coordinates or mile marker or some other area. I was hoping to do some stream fishing but did not realize the streams / creeks are closed till June. Hoping for some shore fishing while Im here in south lake this first week of may 2021.
I don't have GPS. I have a suspicion that this beach will be packed with people now that the weather is warm. It's about 3 or 5 miles down the road where the Truckee flows in. For most streams, open season started last Saturday. The 2021-2022 regulation guide is available online. In all of my Lake Tahoe clips on my lakes and reservoirs playlist I just head down to the lake looking for at least 15 to 20 feet of water with public access and cast out. Either state license is good on the lake so it's all open. Key is to get out there at the crack of dawn, be ready to cast far, and deal with large boulders inside and out of the water. If you are interested in how I rig up, go to my fishing tips playlist and I have a couple of clips that go into detail. For lake Tahoe, I shorten my leaders and move up to a half OZ slip sinker to allow for farther casting. Good Luck.
@@wildernesswithamani1027 Thanks. Im going to look for access areas south of Emerald Bay. Im hoping that its not too crowded. Otherwise I will head into hope valley and try the carson river. I stopped into a fishing store today. The lake is indeed open but none of the streams or creeks that feed into the lake are open until June 1. You have to get out of the tahoe basin or be at least one lake back. (so taylor creek is open above fallen leaf lake) but I found no way to get to that side of the lake as all the access roads were closed.
@@thomasehutton I have been nailing big trout on 1/8 OZ marabou and hackle jigs in the Truckee River all year in the Barbless/artificial/catch and release section that is open year round. I mostly fish below the Hirschdale exit off the 80 all the way into Nevada far out east of Reno. You would need to double check but I think the section off the 89 above the trout creek confluence is open as well. I have a ton of content for that on my rivers playlist and my Truckee river streak playlist. Wherever you end up going, I hope luck finds you!
@@wildernesswithamani1027 Thanks for the info. So far no luck with powerbait at cave rock or Baldwin Beach. Im thinking about trying rubicon point and the beach right there. Your video mentioned you had good luck with powerbait. Any particular type. I was trying bumblebee and a lemon striped one.
I went to Sugar Pine Point and failed to find any water deep enough that I could reach where I wanted to spend time fishing it. I did go there when the lake level was down and it's probably deeper right now. I actually put that clip on my hiking playlist because I walked around the park to give viewers an idea of what it was like.
What an unlikely place in South Lake Tahoe to get trout. So now I know. But you are correct about it being packed during fair weather though.... Thx! 👍🙏🎣⚒
This spot was an absolute zoo last June. Definitely going to try that rocky point. It won't be as easy to fish but I like the location. The fish I got in my Chimney Beach clip had some type of crustacean in it's stomach, possibly a crawdad so I think the rocky area would be good. Fishing from shore all over the lake has been good for me so far as long as there aren't tons of people in or on the water.
Give it a shot! There will be a lot of snow but if you can find that spot I am at here you should be able to fish without having to slip on icy rocks. This spot is about 3 miles down the road from where the 89 starts following the shoreline. There is parallel parking which should get you out of the way of snow plows. My clip "My general technique for deep water reservoir trout" details how I rig up if you are interested. I just up my slip sinker to 1/2 OZ to increase casting range and shorten my leader on the inflated crawler. The Truckee River off the 80 is also open for artificial/catch and release only if you are interested. I also have clips for several reservoirs near Truckee, as well as Donner Lake, if you are looking to expand your target zone! I started this channel while I still lived in SoCal so I have a lot of Eastern Sierra content and will have a lot more up in the backpacking season to come. Good luck and if you have any questions about shore fishing Lake Tahoe or any of the other 170+ clips I have up please don't hesitate to ask and I will do my best to steer you in the right direction. Thanks for tuning in.
The filets are deep reddish pink. Those rainbows out of Lake Tahoe are great to eat. Going to eat it tomorrow night. Fun spending time by the lake today.
I have only fished Lake Tahoe In the Winter, Spring, and Late Fall (Clips up for the times I have tried it). During the summer, I am typically fishing Alpine Lakes in the backcountry. If I were to fish Tahoe in the Summer, I would suspect the best chance for fish would be in the deepest water I could find and I would try to have my lines in the water at the crack of dawn. I've heard there is really deep water close to shore somewhere near Emerald Bay but I haven't fished that area yet. It's something I plan to scout out eventually. If you are there, I would say give it a try. Also, some of the reservoirs close to Tahoe I have clips up for might be good in the deep water near the dams as well. Good luck.
It's one of those things where I fished all around Lake Tahoe since the 80's but never fished in the lake itself. It always seemed so big and I'd probably need a boat. Since I started, I have caught fish from shore in 5 different areas and have yet to get shut out (Clips up for all 5). Shore fishing in the lake is a viable thing although it can be a bit tricky as you can see in some of my clips! I hope to demonstrate to my viewers that they don't need to worry about a specific spot. Just find a place with public access, be prepared to deal with boulders, be ready to cast out far, get out there early and you can have success fishing from the shoreline. Those rainbows taste awesome.
That one nice fish salvaged the day. I'll take it. When I rolled up on Kings Beach State Park and saw how shallow it looked, the scramble for something better was on!

My "sweet lemon pepper trout" and "grilling trout on a fire" clips happened right after I caught those fish but it wasn't right there, on the spot. My clip on baking trout was simply me trying to make more out of crappy day of fishing where I got just 1 small trout!
I use the yellow, green, orange swirl. I typically get the original scent if they have it. I think a key to my success is I use tiny size 18 treble hooks with just enough powerbait to conceal the rigidity of the hook. I don't have scientific evidence to prove it but I feel it makes a difference when the bigger trout are on the fence whether to bite or not.
