  • Welcome to The Last Homely .... GARDEN!
Many times people from TLHH channel ask me what I am doing in my garden. I have been thinking of launching this channel for a while now as I am so excited about the many projects I am doing in the garden this year.
I couldn't do any of the without the help from Adam and Arran and the team at Heritage Country Gardening who are not only the muscle in the garden, but have imagination and creativity as well.
This is a big garden with many problem areas, but together we are going to make some really interesting areas this year.
I hope you enjoy this new content. Anna and I will continue making the content you love over at The Last Homely House because MAKING is my real passion but I am interested in so many things and here is where I can share all my outdoor activities!
On Patreon, people enjoy my Monthly Diaries and Weekly Behind The Scenes vlogs plus all sorts of other content. Find out more here
    / thelasthomelyhouse
I use music from Epidemic Sound, a subscription service with thousands of royalty free music tracks. Todays is called 'It's A Wonder'
and it really is! A garden is a wonderful thing!
Thank you for watching. Be my first subscriber to this brand new channel. And this is one time when clicking the notifications bell is really important because I will be posting now and then and not to a regular schedule.
I'll see you next time with Something Else!
    Thank you!
    Love
    Kate

Thank you for this new video and your new project. I live in the Pacific Northwest in Sequim, Washington. I lived in England until I was 19. Moved to Sequim in 2003. I love to garden but we have very dry weather in this area and watering gets very expensive. The weather fronts from the west and northwest are blocked by the Olympic Mountains. This area is called the Blue Hole because the skies above us can be blue when the surrounding areas are all grey from the clouds. I am learning to quilt and find your videos on this subject very helpful and informative. Last week I learned a bit about paper piecing and hope to master this. I find The Last Homey House and now, The Last Homey Garden, very relaxing. It is wonderful handling beautiful fabric and beautiful soil!!! My cat behaves like your cats - wants to be right in the middle of the action. Thanks for everything you do and for all your videos.

also i used to quilt with my gran Farm and spent summers in a rustic cottage three bedrooms and my Dad built bunks three for his girls and three for his 2 sons and youngest daughter! my mum read to us each afternoon, watershed downs, the plague dogs, it was a time of forts, birthday parties picnics and swimming and sailing and rideing! poor EILEEN no wonder she hangs out greedily monitoring you her love, and Ant who she is suspicious of!

Many thanks for inviting us into your garden Kate. I love my garden here in Brisbane in the sub tropics. I’ve created a forrest of native trees right in the back of where I live. I’ve watched them all grow from seedlings to mature trees. The She oak tree has recently dropped a large branch bringing down some branches from the wattle tree. I have a macadamia tree, native mulberry, Davidson plum among several others. I also have some veggies growing in an old bathtub as well as a nice little vegetable and strawberry patch. The veggies are covered to keep them safe from insects and gangs of marauding possums. I live in public housing and I’m also aware of marauding gangs of developers moving the ‘houso’s’ out to gentrify my old suburb. I’m enjoying my garden while I can. Much love to everyone on the garden bench. Jen 💐🙋🏻‍♀️

I don’t know if you’ve watched a channel called Living Traditions but they have a hen run that surrounds their hen pen. It’s actually made up of 2 fences about 3-4 ft apart on all around the four sides. The reason they built it double fenced is because they said deer would jump one fence but they won’t jump Two built close together because they don’t want to get stuck in between them. This might be something you would enjoy checking out.

This was lovely Kate. I used to have a garden that was my “little oasis in a sea of weird”, but when I started having mobility problems I had a lovely couple who came once every two weeks to do the necessary. In the meantime, I did deadheading, some planting and weeding and battled the neighbourhood raccoon who had a real hate of my little solar fountain and used to drag it out of the pond every night and try and lose it in the garden…needless to say, I finally gave in and removed it. He was a chap who was not going to give up and I like my peace. (It was the most prudent move, but it still rankles a bit). When we moved from our house three years ago into a compact condo I felt some relief at not having to worry about the garden, but I still miss sitting and watching the bustle of all the garden inhabitants as the seasons progressed. So thank you for sharing your beautiful space with me. I shall enjoy it.

I have so missed your regular videos. I recall the year Clara the escape artist hen, consumed your seedlings 3X! You then took us along for a drive to the Pink Mill restaurant and an al fresco lunch to calm your nerves. 🙂 It was sad to see the hen house go, but you now have a wonderful set up for your new garden. I hope you'll have a bountiful harvest! Blessings, Joy (in the states)

This new channel of yours is so exciting! And it was fun to see Eileen again ( I’m sure I’m not the only one who sings the song every time you mention her🎶). Plus your garden is inspiring! I have one acre of land and have great plans for it, and your property inspires me! 😃

Kate, I am so delighted that your garden channel was suggested on my homepage. I am already subscribed to your HOUSE channel. How wonderful that you also love gardening. You are charming, fascinating and such a pleasure to follow. I look forward to learning from you and sharing your life through your vlogs. Thank you so much for sharing! I live in Maine and am always looking forward to your garden and plant-related mentions, Kate. I envy how your climate is warmer than ours, so you see more growing action sooner than we do. Best of luck with this new channel; it’s a brilliant idea and looks like you already have a LOT of response!

Love this new channel! I can’t really garden much nowadays but watching you in your garden will bring me joy. My parents thought me how to garden and I spent many hours working with them in our big vegetable garden when I was growing up. These are my best memories from my childhood. Glad you can enjoy your gardening and got help to plant so many things!

Hi, Kate et al. Thanks for all the great content. I tried to be the first subscriber, but there were a lot of us--a good thing. The new channel is coming up now on a search but wasn't in the top hits initially. Even so, I think it would be helpful to "link" (not sure if that what YT calls it) your two channels. As it is, when one clicks on "Channels" on the banner menu in your TLHH and TLHG profiles, each one is empty but for "This channel doesn't feature any other channels." Of course, I have no idea if the algorithm gets cranky about that, but others I follow do it, so they must think the advantage of having people find their other content outweighs any potential disadvantages. You're so close to that silver button; maybe it would help put you over the top.
Loved your A&C livestream. Can't wait to see what's next.

What an inspiration you are to all of us Kate! I just finished working in my garden here in New Hampshire USA, poured myself some blueberry lemonade because it is 78 degrees F., subscribed to and will thoroughly enjoy this new channel! I too am following the footsteps of my dad who loved to garden both vegetables and flowers. He passed last year at 95 years of age, but I will keep planting for him! My grandfather, his dad, was a bee keeper so I love when you show us your bees! I share this quote which is special to me “to plant a garden is to believe in tomorrow”. Gardening like quilting is good for our mental health, so now I will go sew hexies for more relaxation🪡🧵🐝 until next time, cheers😊

lovely comment! thank you - my Dad died last November age 97. He is with me in the garden always. When Adam and Arran come they always joke about how long it takes me to share a memory of him. 'you made it to nearly an hour there Kate!' ha ha! Enjoy your garden! xxx and thank you

I LOVE your new channel! I was surprised to hear you're in zone 8. We are zone 5 here in central USA. I've always loved to see you in your garden, and I'm really jealous of you having help... something we may have to achieve before too long. We also have trees in front of our house, and deer who eat what they're not supposed to. I just had a little pot of basil waiting to be planted, and a rabbit snipped them off at the soil line and left them dying on the bricks. We have two bird feeders and that's the entertainment we offer our guests. I have your area on my weather ap, so I can see your weather when I look at ours.

I so agrre and happy that I'm not alone in feeling like gardening is like warfare. I have deer, rabbits, a groundhog, or woodchuck, and then the slugs and other bugs.
I think your hen run will make a great garden. All of that chicken manure will be great fertilizer. Hope to see how it grows. Love that your raised beds are so high, making it easy to work.

What a treat, Kate, being able to spend time in your garden with you 🥰 This is my first full year living in Northumberland (a dream come true) and although I’m not far from you my soil is clay based - a new experience and challenge! It’s been neglected (for good reasons) and taken some clearing but the first thing I planted was a rowan tree, end of autumn. I’m watching this first episode with the birds enjoying their morning feed on the big feeder and today the baby starlings are out for the first time from the nest on my roof. What a way to start a new week! Well done with the new channel 😍

Reserving my spot on the Lime Green Bath Seat 🙂 I live in town in a small house with a very small yard but still I grow lovely flowers and just one edible crop: tomatoes. I grow seedlings by simply squooshing one tomato and starting the seeds indoors. I always plant all the seeds, end up with about 70 seedlings - at least 4 times as many as I have room to plant outside! It always seems such a miracle to me that I get so much from doing so very little.

My word Kate I have been watching your last homely house channel for years, well since you first started, but really have never realised how much garden you had. Wow no wonder how you were unable to manage it all on your own. Well done for all you did. I wIll also enjoy watching this as well, have really enjoyed watching you today thank you. Hope it all goes well. Hope if your growing runner beans they are moving along a bit faster than mine in Lincolnshire, everything is growing very slowly this year , we need a bit of warmer weather and sunshine I think. Take care and thank you for sharing with us.
