    I needed this little stroll through your garden today. What a successful planting you and John have done. It comes to mind the saying, “A society grows great when old men (or women) plant trees, under whose shade they know they may never sit.” You are such a gem, dear Kate! ❤🌳❤️

    I heard a quick comment about planting for the future generation. How lovely to develop your land, not only for your own pleasure in mind, but also that of your family members. I've been noticing that here in Canada that families whose culture tends to keep families together are happier. You seem to have created a family that understands and accepts their responsibility to help you. At the same time, you're an easy, happy person to be around!! I loved the tour.

    My nephew planted a pine tree in my mom’s yard, and decades later she wouldn’t trim it even when it was blocking everything-it represented her love for her 30+ yo first grandchild. I can so understand that steady love, embodied in John’s oak.

    Lovely! When I'm out riding, it is so special to go through an archway of trees. You are a good steward of your land. I try to do the same here, getting trees from the Dept. of Environmental Conservation. When I walk among my white pines, they are 29 years old now, grown up and providing me with pine needle mulch, a wind break, and beauty, I remember planting them when a bundle of 25 tiny saplings fit in my hands. I'm making some pine sap cough drops in a few days, so they are also providing me with a natural medicine.

I have elder, oak, lemon, orange, almond, black walnut, olive, loquat, the plum died during the last drought, and mulberry. It all just does its thing. …the grape too it’s so old it’s more like trees than vines. 🌈🌈🦋🦋

    Awww, this was lovely! I loved the bit at the end where we got to see how the green/living roof is doing on the cottage! One thing I was thinking Kate - you're so lucky to have all this knowledge about plants and trees and I'm sure it's something you don't think twice about. I didn't grow up with a garden, it was just my mum and I, so we lived in small flats or with my Granny, so I never learned those skills - which I realise now, just how much I wish I had that head-full of knowledge that you do! So, thank you for sharing, it means a lot to me. xx

    Kate I love your gardens . It’s always so beautiful and the breeze is always blowing. I know you always do your research before all your projects and you probably already know this about honeysuckle. It is very prevalent here in the south in the USA. Grows wild and in abundance. It is VERY evasive and over time left unattended will choke out any living greenery it can wrap around. It does smell lovely, and as children we all would pick the blooms and suck the nectar out. Very sweet! But like I said extremely evasive. 😊 Ty for sharing your life with us.

    • @robinlyon-mccarthy7709
      @robinlyon-mccarthy7709 4 месяца назад +1

      That is because honeysuckle was imported from Asia. Our native honeysuckle is not invasive. (I am trying to remove all of the invasives off our place, so I researched and England has a native honeysuckle. It also stated that only the shrub ones tend to be a problem there, not the vining ones.) I am so glad you mentioned this issue so people tempted to run out and plant some are aware of the invasive issues.

    Thank you for sharing your trees! I ❤ trees! Grew up helping my dad plant trees and have planted some in my adult years. Are the red berries edible? They look so tempting and there is nothing like fresh from the tree! Oh how I miss those days. Elderberry can be used to make juices for cold prevention. I see you planted one of my favorites, that being dogwood! Beautiful blooms in yhe Spring and awesomely beautiful colorful leaves in the Fall. Deer are terrible here too. Took out 2 of our service berries and had to replace them. Ended up putting a fence around the new ones. Now they have attacked our new blue spruces and some have actually survived. Some have not. Here in most US states deer can be hunted on your own paper, but have to fill out paperwork. Don't want to kill the babies, just the bucks as they are the tree destroyers. Thank you for sharing your beautiful new trees! I truly enjoy seeing them growing and thriving!

      I've never heard of the russet variety of apples. We have russet potatoes in the U.S.

    What a joy this afternoon to watch your lovely video. Your garden is beautiful and certainly reflects years of love and hard work. Kuddos to you and your "helpers". Thank you🥰
