    I have a theory about what I just broadly label as "no-touch masters" although not all of them do the no-touch thing. My entire life I was really interested in both martial arts and magic, as in stage performances not hogwarts, and in the past 5 years or so I made the move from magic performances to mentalism. A mentalism act is similar to a magic act in some ways but also dramatically different in some important ways. One of the things I can do is basically make naive people think I'm psychic(mostly cold reading and barnum statements) but I don't do that for the same kind of reason I don't go around trying jiu-jitsu submissions on random people without their permission(because it is unjustified violence). So all of that was just background for the theory. The basic idea is that what I think is happening is that highly suggestible people end up gravitating towards them and either consciously and directly or unconsciously and indirectly these so-called masters use suggestion to pull off these tricks. I really do think of them as being like cheesy magic tricks. It makes sense since the kinds of people who end up around faith healers, no-touch masters and so-called psychics share the common trait of high suggestibility(as in hypnotic suggestibility). Roughly 2 out of 3 people can be hypnotized, roughly 10% I can get to do almost anything that doesn't cross normal moral boundaries and about 5%(what I call "people pleasers") will do stuff that crosses those lines if it is framed correctly. When I do a mentalism show I tend to filter the crowd based on their perceived suggestibility level and only pick the ones higher on that scale to use in the act. I bet that same sort of filtering process happens in these mcdojos. People who may be at least somewhat suggestible but their subconscious senses red flags and won't allow them to just follow along end up dropping out of the dojo or straight up being asked to leave and that leaves mostly the "people pleaser" types who's subconscious doesn't pick up those red flags. This same kind of stuff happens in cults in general with the exception being that almost everyone that ends up in a cult in the first place falls into that 5% so cults don't have to do that initial filtering process that mcdojos do.

      Well stated! May I add the ones that seek advancement or other perks. Along with those in the "student body" that are consciously faking (stooges) to impress upon new, and lower initiated "students". Then there are Duped Agents. Example: I may not, as a "master" need to personally impress by Routine demonstration to a group. Only by deceptive demonstration to a person, or persons that already share confidence, or familiars with someone a person with established credibility. Just "belt" that person as a higher ranking "student". I just need to impress on that one person, or student. I may use unsteady mats, a slick spot, shifting mats, in a group "attack" I might have other "assailants" assure that a less then cooperating student that I seek to impress and make a Duped Agent goes down. Having "students" do repetitive "breathing", standing, sitting, flexing, just like Benny Hinn does with Music, anticipation, light trickery and "Raise your hands, look up upon God's Glory." To increase potential for delirium. So once I use deceptive practices to convince someone I see as a connection to others... Like a member of a church, a business, etc. Then those that know them may be more adopting of "fudging results". There's also the offer of "Well the best sparing students advance." Again perks to incentivize cooperation. All that, and factor in the Stage Hypnotist factor. Some just wanna Ham, and Show off, then somebody wants to one-up.

    I reassure my daughter (6) regularly that if she is being supervised by another adult - if something bad happens to her or she's made to feel uncomfortable or unsafe it's not her fault. And I tell her no one will get into trouble for anything if she tells me anything, but the best way to figure out uncomfortable feelings is to talk to me or her mother about it. Some of that is a lie though - god damn the person who's ever going to do anything to hurt her. They'll never find the body.

      Adults can cause a lot of damage by having their fears and precautions (particularly if irrational/too strong) transferred to their children.

    It works for the Sensei is because of the strict budo traditions and respect automatically owned to the teacher.
    The rituals and adherence to hierarchy means students don't question and callange the teacher verbally of physically, but as a students they are totally oblivious , as this unquestioning reverence is programmed in from the start.
    I was lucky enough to learn Aikido ( to 2nd Dan) from a teacher who actively questioned himself and encouraged that from his students. We would also train monthly with a Jeet kune doo club, which taught the student how to deal with combatants outside their own martial art and the limitations their techniques. It would also ensure neither groups gained a cult-like belief in their own martial art.

    I will write ,I guess, a defence of the technique itself. I practiced aikido for a couple of years, and we trained with the Bo. Some of hte more advanced students got to try using the Bo to do locks on us.
    The point of the practice was to learn to get the opponent to a bad position if they grapped your weapon.
    You can, in fact, get the opponents hands to a wrist lock IF (and only if) they keep holding on to the weapon; any sensible person would, however, let go.
    In a way, that would be the intention of the practice; force the opponent to let go in which case you can use your weapon again, or force them to break their wrist. (the aikido wrist locks do still work, they just tend to be a bit impractical).
    This is nothing to say about Yoshida as shown in the video, as I have no idea about him. (To point out, our aikido coach was very down to earth, and realistic about that aikido could not be used as taught in practice, and encouraged crosstraining, and did that himself as well).
    That being said, for example in the video it seems they do a lot of ridiculous stuff that is just pure illusion (which sadly happens a lot with aikido/aikijutsu), and through that I am kind of pushed to believe it's just pure bs that he teaches here as well. This post is mainly to point out that such training CAN serve a purpose, although does not necessarily always do so.

    • @gamingdragon1356
      @gamingdragon1356 Год назад +2

      Honestly, from what I can see most of the video is he escaping from grabs or putting his opponents in locks as such the only thing out of place is the reaction of the students which is probably an aikido thing.
      The video is just a little too harsh and poorly researched. Also a child can also get out of the grabs of an adult if he employs proper technique. It's just basic martial arts demonstrated in every dojo. I don't think most of the people here have any experience in martial arts.

    I did talk to my child (he's over 20 now), as I was molested as a child. I said that if anyone did something he did not like or if one of his friends talked about anything similar he should tell an adult he trusted. And if any adult ever told him to keep a secret it would be a bad secret. Bad secrets should be told.
    Things along that line. As to behaving in the streets we told him that if anything happened he should go to anyone wearing a uniform. (Our thinking being that it would be a employee somewhere and that they would be working. So acess to communication, a higher likelyhood of help and so on.)
    Physical defense, or defensive violence more or less came down to "scream loudly: - this is not my parent!" and try to resist as strongly as you could. Wrestling matches, of course friendly ones. Hitting coach mitts and when he was old enough we did some light sparring.

      @ulfhazelcreek8108 Год назад +1

      @@gamingdragon1356 I disagree. Sometimes fear of how the parents might react can keep the child silent, in a misguided attempt at protecting the parents. Notice also the caveat of "an adult he trusted". It could have been me, or his mom or a parent of a friend. That trust you gain by your actions, not your commands.
      As far as I know, I have the trust of my son, despite my history and whatever issues that caused. I hope that I have earned it fair and square.
      I am sorry that you have bad experience with school staff. I have some bad, some good. I wish they all were good.

    • @gamingdragon1356
      @gamingdragon1356 Год назад

      @@ulfhazelcreek8108 The child will only fear you based on how you usually react. So if you have been a good parent he will never hide things from you. You are his first line of defence, if he can't trust you to help him or sympathize with him then he can trust no one.
      I didn't have good or bad experience with the school staff but based on most media reports the school or any institution does try to hide sexual misconduct because it affects their reputation leading to poor enrollment and revenue. They have to answer to the school board. Even if it's a government school the principal would still get into trouble and so will the teachers so the most common thing is to brush it under the rug.

    I spent the first half of 2023 trying to train in Aikido again. I trained in Aikido for 15 years, then several years of BJJ, then my health got messed up, and I wanted to start slow. But oh Sweet Moses how did I immediately run into all the Aikido Archetypes. Smarmy, self-assured people, teaching me stuff, resisting my Aikido techniques. One time I f*n snapped. This guy was doing pretty cool irimi nage, I was like, "cool", then it's my turn to throw him, and he freezes out like a statue. I try to move him in a different way, he freezes that out too. Instead of switching to BJJ mode and double-legging him, I ask him "what are you doing", and he says that "the energy in my fingers is wrong". I shrug and tell him, "okay, I will do the same to you".
    When it's my turn to be uke again, no more cooperation from me. I freeze him out, he tries to move me differently, I freeze him out too. Dude hisses and punches the air in front of my face, I switch to boxing guard which I learned from 6 months of crappy boxing, hide chin behind my shoulder, he yells "f this" and runs away to the opposite end of the mat.
    Another time I was at the seminar of the head teacher, and some dude kept coming up behind me and rearranging my limbs, pushing me around. I turned around and said "please don't do THIS", and gave him a few "one-inch punch" sort of shoves on shoulder and chest area that made him lose his footing. I am NOT putting up with any of the invasive behaviors in Aikido anymore.
    The worst one was when I ran into "myself from 20 years ago", this guy who believes Aikido "works at high levels". He said "you wouldn't be able to do anything to a [smarmy Nth degree blackbelt we just trained with]. I told him, this guy would be a helpless baby the moment he ends up on the ground. He said "Aikido has kneeling techniques to deal with the ground". He also said that he doesn't understand what I mean by "wanting to switch from Aikido to BJJ and bulldoze that guy". After all, technique is technique, and if I can't do it with Aikido, I can't do it with BJJ!
    trololololol??
    Finally he said that when I trained with him, I was "too physical", and made a passive-aggressive play at being an enlightened Aikidoka who doesn't see all these Aiki-douche bullies that I see. In reality, what it means, is that he's putting up with deception and abuse while pretending it's enlightement. I USED TO DO THAT 20 YEARS AGO. HE IS ME.
    I have this recurring wish to go back to that Aikido dojo, switch to BJJ and just gently bulldoze a couple of folks who are behaving essentially like bullies.Like the smarmy black belt who decided to start bumping his stomach into me to show where ... center... energy... ok let's face it, he was trying to establish pecking order by slamming his beer gut into me.
    When I trained Aikido like a good little neophyte a long time ago, there were some boxers and Judoka who visited the dojo. I could TELL they were restraining themselves, but I had this illusory sense that if not me, then a blackbelt would be able to handle them. Just like this guy, the "younger me".
    I need to start training BJJ again, where truth is truth, before I lose my mind.

There are elements of application missing as these videos are principles. The subtleties of the Aiki arts are where the power of taking balance and distractions can be used in a real fight. @McDojoLife - you need to read Influence - Science and Practice by Cialdini for multiple examples of Cognitive Dissonance in practice. What it really is at its core is changing your beliefs to match your behavior. Thus, each time these impressionable folks throw themselves down, they are demonstrating to themselves that it works, and any beliefs they have in their mind that it might, is suppressed by proving to themselves that it does work, but throwing themselves down. I suspect this happens the first time because they really want to believe but that first one is not cognitive dissonance. However, every other time they throw themselves down after that it is 100% cognitive dissonance as their mind changes to align with their behavior and thus resolve the dissonance between belief (mind) and behavior. FYSA, this even works if folks are forced to execute behaviors that create cognitive dissonance with their beliefs. in other words, being made to do something they don't believe. For example, US prisoners of war during the Korean conflict were made to write essays about how fascist communist ideology was good for Asia. Interestingly, while they usually could not be made to believe that it was right for the West, they all came back stating that communism was right for Asia. The is the dissonance between what they were forced to write in their own hand and what they believed. Maybe not strong enough to overcome years of behavior fighting a threat of communism in the US, but strong enough to make them say otherwise for places where they didn't have so many reinforcing behaviors. ~ Enjoy!

    Honestly, i didnt see any no touch technique in the video. Most of what he showed was pretty much justified self explanatory to anyone who has done judo or karate. Aiki in japanese martial arts simply means to re direct the opponents own energy to escape locks and grabs. So he was right that you wont need to use your energy.
    I have been taught similar moves in kyokushin karate and they work brilliantly except for the fact that we didn't use the fancy falling of aikido or aiki jujutsu practioners. All in all a poorly researched video.

    • @muteqx
      @muteqx Год назад +1

      Came here to say this too. It's just leverage, angles and balance points. Drawing the attacker in as part of your movement so they become stuck to you - only because they want to attack/connect. There is nothing special or magical here - just connection and movement between bodies.
      The BJJ world even make use of so called "invisible jiu-jitsu" but there is nothing magic about it - it's just connecting and making use of levers that can't be seen with the eyes because the fulcrum starts inside the body and the lever extends out through and past it.
      I'm not even particularly good at it but I can probably teach anyone how to do it. It's kind of like another form of listening - through your body, through touch - which does take years to fine tune, but still can be explained and tested and experienced by beginners.
      It can be very counterintuitive because you have to learn to use your whole body to receive their incoming force, without using isolated muscle power to fight it. But this stuff is at the core of judo and BJJ too - it's nothing magic or special.
      The aiki demos are set up to illustrate possible extremes of what you can do with connection and leverage - but it's just listening into the body of the person providing force, and moving in spirals along axes where that can't be felt or opposed.
      If only the amount of energy spent verbally debunking this stuff was put into scientifically studying it... but people are quick to call bullshit when they haven't done that investigation themselves.
      It's a shame because you're missing something incredible and available to anyone with a body: how to listen through touch, a deep skill which over years improves almost every aspect of a person's life beyond measure.
      I don't want to be believed - go investigate for yourselves!

      It's OK with me if I practise something that other people think isn't possible. Though it's sad they miss the experience of doing something so fascinating. It's not magic but it is extremely interesting and unbelievably useful in life, and actually quite beautiful too.
      But you can't learn it from talking about it or seeing it in videos - it's a nonverbal conversation which has to be passed on through touch.
      So I don't see much point in just talking about it, because I might as well be trying to tell you how to play play "advanced jazz bassoon" or something, you know?
      Also I am a literal nobody, just a person who studies things, and who practises with my own kids, who I want to be able to look after themselves.

      @@muteqx Talking won't do anything. A person has to practice something to know what it is as such there are definitely many so called MC dojos but even they can use legit techniques. If you break apart Aikido technique you would understand that it actually makes sense.
      In kyokushin, my teacher taught aiki on some days and it is the most useful thing.
      Anyway real life is most important. The owner of the channel might be earning through his channel same for the martial art master so both can squeeze a little bit of nonsense because that's what the people like to hear.

      I probably will say the same thing before training aikido, but once I started doing, and knew the principle inside, it is not that magic. Anything is physics and balance. The problem of Aikido is just it is too ideal that lots of the technique not working for the people have much fighting experience or someone controls the balance very well. But training the techniques are just for the practitioners to remember and when or how to use is totally depends on the individual one who understands the core of the techniques better.
