Always good to have a guide on how to go bankrupt 🙃
😂
Funding a 10'000 point Invader ATV only army ain't cheap but it's honest work.
Switch to MTG. It's way better value 😉
@@ReedoTVuntil you wanna be kinda good and have to spend 600+ on a deck. Then there's having multiple decks so it kinda evens out
@@ReedoTVSanguinarius homo indomitus est, et se me dite cum mendacia lol
Would love a guide to first 500-1000-2000 points for other factions as well!
There isn't really a 500points tier anymore as that is now the Combat Patrol mode (which is actually legitimately excellent) and that only needs one box.
I'm really hoping there will be a match of the Ancients style Dreadnought themed detachment. My blood Angels and their furioso dreads are looking forward to it
Thanks for this. I have the Leviathon box, these are my first space marines and I'll build up to a 2k army. Gonna go gun line with maybe some infiltrator types
I love the narrative potential for Deathwatch.
I’ll add that the age of darkness box (for Horus heresy) is an excellent discount for a ton of marines. A lot of the models can proxy very easily (praetor w/ sword = captain, praetor w/ axe = judiciar) and look great. Add an upgrade sprue for a ton more options. Plasma cannons = hellblasters, heavy flamers = infernus, etc. It probably isn’t a good choice for lore noobs and/or a first army, but you really can’t beat the amount of plastic for the price if your a vet and looking for a lot of marines ( and aren’t a tournament player).
Don't forget you get beakies too, the best marines
@BrotherAegis Why if you're not a tournament player, out of sheer curiousity (by the way I agree with everything you wrote! )?
I can see the objection from an opponent if I didn't present my "proxy list" at the start of the game or decreed a Primarch is a tank (say...for absurdity)
By and large though people's mileage will vary in different geographic locations but long as base sizes are correct can't imagine a TO ruling in favour of the objection..
Tournament players will throw a shitfit over how your beakie hellblasters and intercessors arent primaris and cant count as those units
@@lolutkhim2dabar485 agreed. Which is what TOs are for.
No way known any registered TO won't see through what a player is trying to pull by pointing out ABC isn't the correct miniature for XYZ..
Again - your area might have different TOs to my region - but no tournament I've ever been to a GW manufactured mini would be disqualified if it's reasonably representative of what it's proxying and a list was turned over to the opponent at the beginning of the game.
Many TOs (I TO tournaments, for what it's worth..) would rate the objection very low on the sportsmanship grade and rule the list as legal. I'm sorry you attend gaming circles players are so nitpicky...but I don't see any TO ruling in their favour (and it stands to reason the judges would be called if one player demanded to win the game outright because they claim the list is "improper".
Not all tournaments or gaming circles are like that - promise!
Seems a lot like a "that guy" move - and they're soon left out in the cold when no one wants to play them, IMHE 😁
A specific kit to not overlook is still the 9th edition recruit edition. Still pretty widely available and the models are still pretty useful. Even the Necron side is pretty decent or should be easy to shift as who doesn't need 10 more warriors.
If I were to give my personal model picks for what to start with, I'd say a box of 10 infiltrators, 2 gladiator tanks (magnetize the sponsons) and Guilliman (845 points at max).
These give you a great baseline. Infiltrators are more useful than intercessors with their anti-deepstrike aura and are great for beginners and advanced players alike to screen off your backline. Gladiators will rarely ever be bad due to their loadout variety.
Guilliman is good at accentuating what marines do but obviously skip him for other chapter specific units and characters if you want to play as something else.
From there get 10-20 Desolation Squad marines (not currently for sale separately) OR 10-20 Hellblasters OR 2-3 x3 Eradicators. In addition I'd (at the moment) get 10 Sternguard (not currently for sale separately).
Add 2 characters of some sort. An apothecary and a lieutenant or captain I think.
The idea here is to have a solid foundation of effective firepower on foot - Eradicators are better than people think despite their nerf (but also lowered points cost) due to tons of vehicles, walkers and elite units being T9 or lower. The characters basically exist to buff them and/or to enable a free stratagem to save them.
At this point you sort of pick what direction you want to head in, whether you add more gladiators (you can easily field 4, 2 reapers and 2 lancers), some melee/termies, dreadnoughts (though they're weirdly expensive in points at the moment) or maybe a mix of an incursor squad and storm or land speeders for their utility abilities that buff others. You can add bikes if you want (I wouldn't, not right now) or some inceptor units. Whatever you think you'd like to play with to start with. Try some things out and see if you want to go competitive or maybe want to be more casual and fun-oriented.
I'd avoid most of the box sets because they're basically traps. You get a ton of models that you can't use for anything. There are hundreds of thousands of Outriders out there that don't deserve to see play in 10th, all coming from the Indomitus and starter set boxes. I still have 20 unpainted assault intercessors and I'll probably never paint the 10 infernus marines I just got.
dark angels combat patrol is an excellent starter box! would recommend.
I'm going to turn my leviathan box into Blood Ravens, and to tick off some players I'm going to get a Roboat Girlyman model and paint it in BR colors.
It's lore friendly that the blood ravens would steal him, he is after all not nailed down
get the different upgrade sprues for the other chapters if they still sell them esp black templars as they have relics from the codex on them and assemble your blood ravens with stuff found that other chapters dropped to make them even happier
I need more gravis HQ’s! Chaplain and Librarian particularly.
Unlikely. There's already a new Terminator librarian, and Chaplain is the other tradition Terminator specialization.
As a DA player, Wrath of the soul forge king is very good value. Getting 5 terminators (as well as bits/weapons to upgrade the leviathan termies with), some battle line troops, and an extremely powerful hero is great, as long as you can sell off or find use for the chaos side
It's a killer box. Vashtorr in himself is a superb miniature, added the lot to my World Eaters army, was a bargain for me.
What do you mean find a use for the chaos side? That's just the second army starting point.
Video was definitely helpful for me. I am slowly making my first steps into the hobby as I am unsure where to start and this video gives me an idea of where to begin. I'm planning on building Ultramarines and Grey Knights and getting the index cards will be a good start to learning about the units and I can begin building the miniatures from there.
Welcome! Yeah, download those cards first to get an overview if you don't want to commit money to the rules side of things. Then just go from there!
Wait until grey knights units get updated. They're currently under scaled
@@dekai7992 I have the app downloaded but I went ahead and placed an order for the armies I'm interested in building as I like having cards on hand and not having to scroll through my phone.
@@thewindowsmaaane I will keep that in mind. I don't see them currently on the update list for the projected timeline for codex's. Should I wait until Grey Knights get their 10th edition codex's or when they release new models for them?
Started the hobby with my son this April with 9th edition recruitment set. Then 10th came out but I went ahead and got 9th command edition for the good value of beefing our embryonic space marine and Necron armies, along with some terrain. Will now be buying 10th-specific sets for our respective factions but hope the units from our 9th recruit and command sets are not obsolete already.
Watching this trying to build my Templars against my brothers custodes😅

Funny bit of trivia: "Sarcofagus" was the original translation of Dreadnought in Italian back in the days, before Fifth. White Dwarf at the time was localized and had a section where the translators explained in detail all the various translation choices they did whenever a new thing came out.
Now, by reading the localized codexes et cetera and seeing the post-edited Machine Translation they are going for in some places, I long for those days of more artisanal care of the non-ENG languages...
I feel you. Although German isn´t in a bad spot at the moment, translation of certain unit names can be quite... corny and weird
Thank you for this guide for newcomers! I am going to enjoy playing as the SPESHHH MERINES once more.
Very good video! Thanks.
I have the space marines combat patrol with the snipers and tanks, 3 assaults squads and 3 bikes, it’s pretty nice
Step 1: Buy three of every Dreadnought and vehicle
Step 2: The flesh is weak
Fellow iron hands player
Since the new WH40K app was released and 10e basically rendered all my BattleScribe armies obsolete, I created a simple Ultramarines army by combining the Leviathan and Indomitus Space Marine armies. By adding 5 Intercessors and 5 more Assault Intercessors, it worked out to exactly 2000 points (unfortunately no points left over for Enhancements).
It’s certainly not the most competitive SM army, but a solid starter army. Considering that the Indomitus and Leviathan boxes were roughly $250 each, and it’s only the SM half, it’s an amazing deal to get a 2000 pt army for $500. If you sold the Necrons and Tyranids halves, you’d nearly get the Space Marines army for FREE.
2000 pt for $500? Oh my...
I think there’s such a thing as too many options. Just picking a color is daunting. 😁
Definitely tempted to jump back to the setting,so I’ve got more games at my local club when I can’t play HH
Tabletop minions has a great breakdown on each combat patrol box and how much you can save versus purchasing the units individually.
get the Starter box or Leviathan box as starters or if you can still find it the Agastus Strike force :)
I came into a lot of Horus Heresy stuff really cheaply and have been building out a firstborn Space Sharks army with them. I think when I'm done I'll have close to a full company
Beakies are nest :D Edit I meant best but Nest also works :D
Yesssss! Way to go!
I'm pretty much just starting up too but I had an old Assault on Black Reach box that I'm beginning on. It's a little scary seeing how the firstborn might not be long for the world however. My first goal is to just get two 1000 pt armies to play against each other and slowly build up from there.
That was my first box all those years ago… I read and reread that rule book so many times 🥲
looking for advice! i'm planning a Company of Raven Guard. so far i've purchased and am working on painting a box of Assault Intercessors, a box of Heavy Intercessors, a box of Intercessors, and a box of Infiltrators/Incursors.
below is where i'm currently at with planning stuff out. mostly need to work it out so i know what little unit numbers i need to add to the knees of the chaps im working on.
1: Battleline Squad (Veteran Squad: Sternguard Veterans?)
2: Battleline Squad (Intercessor)
3: Battleline Squad (Intercessor)
4: Battleline Squad (Heavy Intercessor)
5: Battleline Squad (Infiltrators)
6: Battleline Squad (Infiltrators)
7: Close Support Squad (Incursors)
8: Close Support Squad (Assault Intercessors)
9: Fire Support Squad (Eliminators)
10: Fire Support Squad (Eliminators)
11: Reserve Battleline Squad (Heavy Intercessor?)
12: Reserve Close Support (Assault Intercessors)
13: Reserve Fire Support Squad (Aggressors or Eradicators?)
any and all advice or suggestions for alternatives would be gratefully received!
I have a Black Templar Army that I bought the minis for last edition, but then got really bogged down on researching how to do black armour properly. I kind of went full circle though, and decided I wanted to just do the 'Eavy Metal style with the blue highlights, as painting Volumetric black armour is incredibly difficult, and I don't mind admitting that I'm just not there yet.
Need to do some research on what to add for 10th though. I would like to add some of those nice primaris, Gladiator Tanks I reckon. I was going with triple triple redemptor with Gatling guns, but I'm sure that would not be the best use of points now. I have the new Dread from Leviathan as well though, so will definitely be running that. Very much looking forward to the new Melee terminators, and primaris assault marines though. Sure we'll be getting them in a couple of months.
What's good for Black templars anyway guys? I know that Crusaders are really good, so need to get a couple more squads (I only have 30 of them at the minute) I heard running them in big squads is really good now as well? It used to be squads of 10's that were best 9although some people ran 20's)
Aiming to do a Impulsor Party Bus list. So aiming to a mix of Gladiator reaper, Lancer , Impulsor with Hellblaster and Sternguard. Along with Lt.
Ive found a great way to start is getting the Horus Heresy Age of Darkness, $310. Its about 1700pts in 10th so playing around in their app you can get an Assault Squad and Command Squad to fill in to 2k. Or other variations, its not a great army, but its easier and cheapest. Roughly $450 for a 2k is pretty good.
The leviathan box set with the dark angels and blood angels combat patrols come to 1940pts but is a bit character heavy. Swap a few of them out for a lancer and your golden.
Out of curiosity, can we use multiple SM captains in our armies now? I've looked through the 10th Edition core rules and the SM index, and I can find absolutely nothing that forbids it. I know we couldn't do it in 9th Edition - at least without using multiple detachments - but it was always very clearly spelled out in the 9th ed. rules that you could not do it. As far as I can tell, the 10th ed. rules say, well, nothing at all on the subject. Which leads me to believe that GW may have just given the green light to use as many captains as we want.
While this would be a bit lore-breaking, it would also be convenient for players like me who (mostly through gifts from others) ended up with 6 different captain models, most of which never saw any use because of the restriction on how many I could use in any given battle.
Finally after buying alot of models its time to learn how to build my army
The true way is to get 3 land raiders, and fill each with assault centurions. Bring guilliman to allow 2 oath targets, and shred stuff.
Found a leviathan set in germany yesterday... In a official warhammer store... It was like finding pure gold
As I kept the Tyranid half of the Leviathan box, I'd love to see a similar video for Nids. Anything in Leviathan that's worth buying extras of?
Do away with the rippers and get a hive tyrant to get to 1000 points
As a newbie I picked up the space marine Boarding patrol box for $90 USD. And added a Lieutenant, Hellblasters, BladeGuard and redemptor dreadnought. To make a incursion size army.
im new to Warhammer an bought the starter box and a few models but then i recently ran into reivers plus more for 12 quid i bought that but i was wondering if i have made a mistake there seams to be no tutorials online for it and im not confident painting these without some sort of guide. what would you recommend?
Hey Auspex, can I get your input on something? I'd like to run a Captain in Gravis armor, but that particular Captain can only join with three units (Aggressors, Eradicators, and Heavy Intercessors, because I guess his armor can't fly like the Inceptors). Do you think there is a "best" option for a unit to attach him to? They all seem pretty okay, none of them seem like they really benefit from him more than any others, so is it just a preference thing or is there some deep synergy that I'm missing?
I want to build a melee/flamer front line with heavy vehicles giving support, I currently just have the old iron hands arch of iron army box, I think the space marine side of the leviathan box would be a good idea. I’m open to suggestions on other things to ad to the army for the remaining thousand points aside from doubling up on a squad here or there
Some Aggressors with flamers would fit your theme and are decently strong.
Much more curios question is how to finish a Space Marines army.
well each company have 10 squads of 10 marines each i belive and each chapter is 10-12 companies add some supportstaff and motorpool. There was an organisational chart in the space marine codex in i want to say 5th atleast listing what a full chapter was. GW even tried to sell a full chapter in a box value pack with 0% discount at one point. If you are codex compliant when you have 120ish marines transports and other assorted tanks, flyers, artillery you are done and have to start a new space marine army or try another faction.
What box set would you recomend for a raven guard succesor chapter with an airborn focus?
Hey Auspex Tac, have you noticed the Crimson Fists seem to have disappeared? No Chapter mast model and no rules or tactics 😭
I was gonna get regular starter set plus librarian separate cause that’s 12 bucks cheaper than space marines combat patrol plus you get all the tyranids! But even better my local shop had 4 leviathan sets left and I walked away with a full 26 percent off at $185 usd! SCORE!!! So I got that, the introductory set for some paints and extra minis, bought a redemptor dreadnought and some extra paints brushes and glue so I got all that basically 2 complete 1000 point armies and I’ve spent just over $400 so far, not too bad
I’m a new warhammer player. I’ve just got the space marine half of the leviathan box. I was thinking of painting my marines as Novamarines. I was wondering if I did this would I be able to use all the ultra marine characters and there rules as ultramarines?
I'm convinced auspex is multiple voice actors.
If I’m wanting to make a ravenguard raptor army what codes and troops do I start with heading into 10th?
For somethng like the Leviathan space marines you get so many extra pieces and weapons that 3d printing can double your unit count
I started working towards a Blood Angels army this year.
Only for the edition to change, and Dante to get leaked.
Now I'm sitting on 800pts of plastic and I can't finish it.
Because I KNOW! The instant I buy that Sanguinary Priest & Guard?
New model drops by autumn 2024. FML
r/miniswap can also be a good place to start building an army or pick up half of a box.
OH GOD AUSPEX GUIDE US!
Wonder how much of this will change with the codex and new models coming in a few months
Is it worth buying the mid-Starter Set if you want to expand your Leviathan Space marines and/or Tyranids?
It should be. Depends on how much it is (depending on where you live) and how much the models included might suit your army list. Maybe there is other models you would rather include?
Are pretty much all first born boxes/models being replaced across all factions and races? Such as even things like Ork Stormboyz?
which ones would be the kits to get after an Ultimate Starter Set?
How does the the lt with combi weapon protect the big boy
Best value is the Imperium weekly magazine
The fact I've got 2 of the boxes in the thumbnail is a bit reassuring
I find it funny how they are the most popular faction, and almost purely bc of that i don't wanna play them
What unit should i drop from the ultramarines 2k army?
Looking forward to salamander videos
Doing a new Ultramarines army with the Leviathan contents and Guilliman
I bought all the index cards for my armies and when the books come out i will just use tipp-ex.
Sometimes I wonder how many people AT have led into the path of financial ruin.
What is the Cheapest multi part primaris marine kit per marine?
He's the best tip to 40k. Don't bother and come to the kill team table :D Can play 100x more games, can go overboard w/ crafting and customization since its never more than 6 or 12 guys. And most kill team clubs and communities are experiencing tons of growth. So can get in while the skill level is the same.
With the points increase, is it still worth it to bring a max unit of Desolation marines?
Am i able to add the imperial Knights Titans to my space marine army?
are they going to keep producing the leviathan boxes for a little bit longer? or did i miss my damn shot lol
They say this is it. My local Warhammer Store still had a few over the weekend, so yours (and other game stores) are worth checking, and there's always ebay.

Index cards tend to be out of date when they arrive from the printer and is possibly the worst way to spend your hobby money.
Buy the Age of Darkness box.
I’m about to paint my first space marines, but I can’t decide on what chapter to paint. I stuck between dark angels or blood ravens. I’m a huge fan of both 😅
I'm painting Blood Ravens myself, for two reasons. First reason is nostalgia, but the second reason is if I have Blood Ravens, I can "borrow" any chapter's rules or units without breaking immersion too much.
@@astro6009 does that mean they can “borrow” primarchs too? That would be hilarious 😂
@jh1076 As long as the whole army uses Ultramarines or Dark Angels rules, you can use Primarch models or proxies. You'd just be running your Ravens as another chapter.
Don’t go mad with paints. As someone whose gone OTT with my minis. I’m only against an unpainted army. Just spray them their primary colour and paint the base brown and maybe use a metal paint on their weapon. From 10 foot away, it makes no difference
This does make me ask: is the "no model, no rules" thing gone now?
There's no more sale of Dreadnought model kits, only Venerable Dreadnoughts and the specialized versions. So why is the datasheet for a standard Dreadnought, and where is the Venerable Dreadnought sheet?
Can we see firstborn in 10 edition review?

Personally I'd cut down the size of your squads(5) and get a small unit with some speed to get across the board and a small unit that can be more anti tank. Lots of different options out there.
@_F8. I was thinking I needed a character in each squad to maximize my chance to complete a saga. But I've only just now upsized my killteam into a 1000pt army so I have 0 experience in 10th. Thanks for your comment I'll consider down sizing the squads if things go wrong for me.
