Here's something you didn't know NBC: I live in the Mexican borderland so I could only watch the big games and weekend broadcasts on NBC due to my proximity to the US. I started watching in 2006 like most did, I learnt the rules of this wonderful sport I now love through you, heck, I even think you taught me a bit of english, you guys made me a fan of the sport, you explained it like no one else had done before. I watched every Sunday, you were my church on ice. Top that off with having the privilege of listening to Doc call my favorite team a Stanley Cup champion last year.

Noting that ESPN barely does montage essays like this anymore at the conclusion of anything championship based, especially the NBA Finals, I kind of doubt it. They just want the game. No need to see the in arena starting lineup since they can do it quicker with a graphic. And no long winded montage is at the end. Just throw it back to SportsCenter. Granted, they do a good job during the game, but it just feels like it’s been diluted down to its most basic components, and I fear they will do the same with the NHL.
That said, I want to see what Turner will do. Hopefully, they will project the soul and humanity in the game.
But this final essay… It’s one of Doc’s masterpieces, as it is for all of the NHL on NBC.
Make no mistake: NBC Sports knows how to sell an event - how to reel in someone that is completely uninterested. That made their coverage of the NHL most enjoyable.
I am going to miss that.
