The Vin Scully of Hockey. A class act on and off the ice. Two fine gentlemen who were both the best at what they did and never upstaged the game. We were lucky to hear them in our lifetime. Thanks Doc. Best Wishes. It was truly our pleasure.
“I sure love this sport. I hope you do too.” We love it and we love you Doc. Thank you for all the memories you’ve given all of us over all these years. You will be missed. Hockey will never quite sound the same again.
He's so iconic sad to see him retire but it is what it is. It's gonna be hard to find someone to replace his energy. Its gonna be weird to not hear his voice when i watch. Best of luck in retirement.
I just stumbled across this video. Makes me cry. Hockey is a beautiful sport, and I will love it forever. As for Doc, the sentiment is the same. Thanks for everything Doc! I hope you’re enjoying your retirement! Cheers 🥂 ❤️

A sad day for hockey fans... Doc has been a big reason as to why I watch hockey and am such a fan, a fantastic announcer and person. I can't say how lucky us Bruins fans were to have him for every playoff series during our run last year. Hopefully I can get to meet him someday as he's been a hero for the game. Enjoy your retirement Doc!
Once I heard his voice, the electricity of the game was sensational. In the middle of the chaos in front of the net my favorites were - "What a sport!", "I DO love this game". I live in Hershey, PA now and know Doc has roots here with the Bears. But, his heart was with the game and hockey really is one of the last highly competitive and pure sports left. Doc was a huge part of defining it on TV for us. Thanks Doc. And... NBC, you have assembled one of the best line ups in sports with your NHL Coverage. Hope you have the courage to bring Mike Milbury back.
Being a Devils fan and having Doc as our announcer was the best. He called every play with vigor for both teams. Every game was like a national broadcast without favoritism. Devils were blessed to have him.
To the greatest announcer in any American League, words cannot express our gratitude to you for all you have done and said in the course of your career. Your words are truly poetry, painting a tapestry that ebbs and flows in perfect motion through the flow of the game. You will be missed more than we can express. Best wishes in all that you do in retirement. Your calls will live on forever ❤️.
Literally crying right now - Doc is one of the few who can really bring out the spirit and the passion of hockey. For a man who has never once laced up skates he has always had a nack for showing what about hockey makes it akin to an art where everyone who experiences hockey, can feel it in their soul - he truly fell in love with the game of hockey and he was happy to share it with everyone who touched the game. Liev Schreiber said it best last year in an NHL Commercial: "While hockey begins as something you watch, what it becomes is something you feel. "
Doc is simply the best (though I miss Gary Thorne's voice too). Thanks for making a game I knew nothing about (since I grew up in the South) and for making hockey sound brutally elegant and "sophisticatingly" simple. Your retirement reminds me that my own end is coming sooner than I'd like and I best start doing those things I have spent decades promising to do. Best wishes, Mister Emrick.
All I can say is this, while on quarantine this summer I watched a lot of hockey, and always looked forward to hearing Doc Emrick call the game. His voice and call was comforting and uplifting. Reminding us of better things. All the best Doc. Stay well.
What a class act! I'll never forget his call of my beloved St. Louis Blues winning their first Stanley Cup. Doc makes hockey understandable to the casual fan and his knowledge of the game is unsurpassed. We will miss you Doc!
Just saw this, and got the chills. I dont think playoff hockey will be the same. You brought an energy like no hockey announcer. That enthusiasm, excitement is what made me watch watch hockey since 2013. Sad to see him go. You will be missed Doc
Doc, as a fellow Hoosier I couldn't get 2 minutes into your video without starting to cry. THANK YOU for what you have done for the NHL and along with people like me who has taken up the same profession as you whether it is on TV Radio Online or even writing about sports you have been a TREMENDOUS ASSET! Finally, I don't know if you get back to Ft Wayne or Indianapolis but if you do and I'm at a Fuel or a Komets game and see you the 1st beer is on me as well as a bear hug and a handshake.
Anyone that loves the game is saddened by the knowledge that we will never feel the level of excitement that Mike brought to the game. We are happy for him, but there is a sense of loss. God bless you Doc. You've earned a place in our hearts.
Thank you Doc! Great memories you’ve left me with. You left out one other hockey tradition that’s right along side the hand shake, your voice calling a game. GOAT.
I can't imagine watching another NHL game without you, fellow Hoosier. It would be like listening to the 500 without Donald Davidson. You add so much to the play by play with your insight and humor. God bless and thank you!
All my life you’ve been the voice of hockey for me. Bitter sweet farewell and thanks for all the childhood memories that I was able to share with my son’s. All the best doc.
The day I would never see come has happened. Watching NHL and Stanley Cup Playoff games on TV will never be the same, but all I can is thank you for the memories and happy retirement.
Never did I ever think watching him say goodbye would bring tears to my face. Thank You Doc for everything. Thank you for making games fun to watch on tv. Thanks for bringing life and excitement to ever broadcast. Thank you for being the best NHL Broadcaster through the history of the league. Thank you for being a legend and have a happy retirement 🖤💯

Thank you Doc, you are the reason hockey is exciting as it is and why I love to watch. I grew up to your voice with Chico at the Pru and hockey will never be the same. You will be greatly and genuinely missed. -Love, your hockey friend😢💔
Happy for ya Doc! I was so happy a few years back that HBO Sports highlighted a bit of your career, passion for hockey and that impeccable improvisational verbosity you applied to who, what, where, why a puck, player, etc was behaving. I am grateful to have decent vision, but if I ever did lose my ability to watch the game I know I can still see some vintage hockey perfectly. ESPN’s abandonment of all things hockey could have proven to be a disaster for the growth of the NHL in the States. We have you to thank as much as anyone in media for the NHL today. Sad news. Doc was the voice of hockey for 50 years. So many memories watching NHL games with his voice forever etched in my mind. He will be missed.
