Spot on analysis. I rewatched this last year and was pleasantly surprised that it was even better than I remembered. There isn't a Spike Lee joint I wouldn't recommend. As a foil to this in particular I'd say watch Crookyln which is the gently sentimental comedic foil to this as a reflection of his family life one summer in his Brooklyn neighbourhood. Also the soundtracks are always spectacular.
