$3,000 to $6,000? Seems like if it was at Geoge Washington's inaugural ball it would be priceless. Met the Keno's in front of the Chicago Art museum a few years back. They had just auctioned $40,000,000 worth of clocks from theTime Museum in Rockford. He was just as friendly and conversant as he is here.
It's a very cool piece of American history and really belongs on display at the Smithsonian or other museum that can preserve it properly and display it for the public. Something like this needs to be accessible visually to appreciate it fully for the silk work, the art on it and the patriotism associated with its creation. That family will still own it, they can just lend it out to museums periodically if there's no permanent display space in a museum of their choice. I hope more families donate treasures to museums so people can see the history for themselves and maybe open some eyes and minds up.
Yeah I would have guessed it was worth more money. But here's the thing, this could have been worn at any number of celebrations not directly involving Washington and so they are valuing it based on it just being a privately made piece to commemorate the event. If she could prove one of her family members attended and could prove she got it from that branch of her family then she might be able to add a zero to the estimate In any case, it is really undervalued. I would be proud to have it in my collection of founding father items. I have a letter written to my ancestor John Adams from George Washington which is the centerpiece of my collection.
George Washington left office after two terms to avoid giving the impression that POTUS was a lifetime appointment incase he died in office. That sash is worth way more.
To be clear, the man said, if it is genuine, the sash was probably worn at the ball held by the french count A WEEK AFTER the inaugural ball. Hence the fleur-de-lis.
I guess it's mostly because it wasn't Washington's personal sash. Still cool though and definitely something that could go a lot higher in the right auction.
I have a distinct feeling the right buyer would give her at least 10 grand tbh. Stuff from that time in history is cherished by a serious group of collectors.
Seeing as how no one in U.S. history thought that such a 'ball sash' would have survived over 200 years, the fact that this is even worth over $1,000 just seems so appropriate when very little of the American Revolutionary time period has even survived.
I thought they were going to say hundreds of thousands of dollars, maybe millions, and that it should be in the Smithsonian. Whether Washington wore it or or not, it comes from the era, there's practically no examples like it left in existence, and it's associated with the very first president.
So she needs to tie an ancestor to the ball and that would add value to the sash as a collectible. It is unlikely she had more than one ancestor attend so she needs to do her genealogical research then she needs to get a list of people who attended the ball. Anyone on both lists is a probable owner.
I have a 2015 Bell & Ross watch in my kitchen drawer gathering dust that’s worth more than this. Why is this a top hit on you tube? Let’s get back to those Tiffany lamps worth 100k or something please.
@@generalpatzer6893 No he doesn't. If you could buy a rolls royce with a clean title at 70 percent off street price, that's not taking a risk. That's taking advantage.
"On a good day," i.e. when TWO billionaires are after it, the price might go through the roof. That's the art of the auctioneer, to get two or more rich men competing for it. NOT dealers: they would agree to bid low, and then have their own shoot out later - no huge buyer's premium or seller's premium for the auctioneer.
I thought someone was gonna point out the swastika but it’s a smoother spinning to the right one it was a good luck symbol unlike the hard spinning to the left version the nazis used
It's not worth more because there is no name attached or it--George didn't wear it and she doesn't know who did. So while it's important as something from GW's life and related to him it doesn't call for the big bucks without a name/story attached.
I always loved watching the Keno brothers do an appraisal. Their enthusiasm is contagious.
Leigh is my favorite on the show. His enthusiasm is so contagious.
I’m glad he seems to be doing better now after all of his legal and financial issues.
They’re having so much fun together and I’m here for it
Silk is so fragile when it's that old. It's lovely to see it preserved so well.
Gosh, I thought that would be worth a whole lot more. An artifact from George Washington’s inaugural ball?!
I thought so too
Hello how are you doing Darlene
It wasn’t Washington’s
Agreed.
It’s worth what someone will pay for it.
I hope she keeps it, that thing is priceless
It was burned
its not priceless, its worth 5000-8000 bucks :D
I hope she donates it to the Smithsonian.
I would be so scared to have this in my house, I’d just donate it to a museum and let them deal with it. It’s gorgeous and what a history.
You can buy insurance on it, in case it damaged or stolen.
And what if the museum goes bankrupt?
@@bighands69 believe me, the Art Institute of Chicago would NEVER go bankrupt.
Scared of what? Lol

buy it and hand it down to your future generations, would cost around 5mil easy then.

Supply and demand. In particular: demand.
